Spirits of Creation [Turn 6: Refined]
« on: January 09, 2014, 08:05:55 pm »

A new day rises on an idyllic land, filled with gentle hills, light forests, and winding rivers. The sun brings something else along as well- changeling spirits, eager to improve and adjust. Some may be thoughtful or impulsive, gentle or malicious, capricious or wise... but whatever they are, it seems the fate of this land lies in their hands now.

Name: What you call yourself.
Appearance: What you look like. Bear in mind that shape and form are meaningless to Spirits unless they manage to acquire an Avatar.
Personality: Your general mental state. Bear in mind that Spirits may change their minds or grow just like living creatures.
There is no player limit at the start, but we'll quickly Thunderdome our way through any extras. I'm assuming 8 players will be the maximum, but this may change depending on how easy or difficult it is to deal with that many.

At game start, there is a sun and a fairly lush river-heavy location of light forest and gentle hills. It is inhabited by a variety of plants and animals, but you don't know much more than that- concepts involving the world are a bit fuzzy to you in peculiar ways.

As a general rule, you can rely on mostly normal-ish inhabitants for the climate and terrain, but if you need a specific trait, you should attempt to create that before trying to work with it. A good rule of thumb for this is to imagine getting a distant cousin of what you wanted- squirrels instead of rats, cows instead of moose, ferns instead of roses. If that's fine, you can probably work with whatever you've got. If that's not fine, you should probably start more basic ("clever nocturnal rodents," "really large herbivorous quadrupeds," "spiky plants") before trying to grant them specific features (or worse yet, rely on them already having them).

Oh, and as an advanced warning: There will be Fun. Not right away, but not just what the players bring either.

Encyclopedia of the World

ANIMALS

Acid Eagles (Flowery Sunshine, Demihemios)
These very fluffy eagles can vomit stomach acids impressive distances at things that annoy them. In addition to making them unpleasant to deal with at close range, they can sometimes use it to harass off rivals or predators at range, and sometimes even stagger prey long enough to gain a meal. Their plumage is a beautiful, patchwork mix of blue, green, and brown, giving them a vibrant yet natural appearance.

Bilecrows (Flowery Sunshine, Demihemios)
These ravens are very aggressive and ill-tempered, pecking viciously at the faces of things that anger or annoy them, which is most things. They also sing beautifully, and will occasionally curb their aggression to sing at the objects of their displeasure instead. They have a disturbing ability to replicate and modify any sounds they hear, allowing them to mimic almost anything they've encountered, and modify it if they find it works better that way.

Changelings (Korwa)
These dragonflies are capable of completely controlling their life cycles and all aspects therein. They may mature or regress at will, grow, absorb, activate, or deactivate features of themselves at will, and regenerate any missing or damaged parts through similar processes.

Cloudwing Owlets (Superb Owl; DEVOURED)
These small, brownish owls are clearly made of clouds. They never land, eat, sleep, or breed, and instead routinely come about through cloudwings splitting into them through unknown forces.

Cloudwings (Superb Owl; DEVOURED; Demihemios)
These brownish birds are clearly made of clouds. They never land, eat, sleep, or breed, and instead come about through the birdwinds through unknown forces. Some of them resemble the Superb Owl, showing more of his essence. They appear to have genders, but this is a purely cosmetic distinction.

Cringemice (Tesserb)
These fairly large, plump, brown rodents have large eyes for their size. They tend to huddle fearfully in groups when not doing anything else, but are usually being bullied into action by the largest and no less cowardly amongst them.

Justice Mice (Tesserb; DEVOURED)
These Cringemice are white in color, brave, intelligent, and remarkably inspiring and justice-oriented for mice. They tend to rally the normally fearful Cringemice, and put an end to bullying from the larger members and injustice and unfairness in general. Some of them, however, are Cracked, having the powers of Justice Mice but resembling bully Cringemice more in temperament.

Mixbugs (Krozoa)
Mosquitoes with truly unique digestion mechanisms and food sources. They can suck up fluids of any sort, store them in stretchy underbellies, mix the fluids precisely, inject them into something else, and even concentrate them to save space or form more potent mixtures.

Nanoshrimp (Darkbane)
These miniscule shrimp live in symbiotic hives arranged into a coherent whole, acting as a much larger creature. Up close, they are fairly pointy, which aids them in forming sharp shapes. Their legs are extremely long, pointy, flexible, and thin, and are used primarily to lattice in and feel out each other and their environment.

Rapids Changelings (Korwa)
These Stone Rapids dragonflies are disturbingly curious and contemplative about everything, including each other. They have a frightening capacity to learn from what they've seen, and routinely engage in suspiciously sapient-looking behaviors. They are capable of completely controlling their life cycles and all aspects therein. They may mature or regress at will, grow, absorb, activate, or deactivate features of themselves at will, and regenerate any missing or damaged parts through similar processes.

Rotfish (Korwa)
Silvery fish with a bizarre life cycle- once they've mated, they start to rot, and the algae they feed upon begin consuming them. When the eggs hatch, the fishlings have a giant mass of algae to feed upon and hide inside.

Snickerlizards (Bob; DEVOURED)
These large lizards are extraordinarily intelligent for lizards, and routinely display uncannily cunning behavior. They are fairly social as a result, and prone to occasionally playing with objects. Mothers swallow small gemstones while producing eggs, which leave each hatchling a gem on its tail. This gem is the focus of their impressive telekinetic abilities, allowing them to hurl about and fight off predators many times their size. It also absorbs and stores fair amounts of magical energy from nearby sources, which is then released by glowing and being tasty when chewed on.

Spitesnakes (Gorlacois)
These small, long green snakes are unusually good at remembering and reacting to things that have wronged them in the past. Their saliva is festering and disease-ridden, making their bites likely to cause infection.

Tuffbugs (Gorlacois)
These almost triangular, segmented, many-legged bugs like to hide under rocks. They are remarkably bellicose and unforgiving for nearly-mindless bugs without much in the way of natural weaponry, and will follow and push at things that annoy them.

PLANTS

Cloaktrees (Liar; Semi-Devoured; Mostly Extinct)
These dark, somewhat twisty trees have a willow-like build. They generate a cloaking effect on themselves and a small area around themselves, rendering everything nearby mostly invisible.

Death Blossoms (Ανθουσα; Devoured)
A bright red, pretty, rose-like flower with sweet nectar. It is entirely and severely poisonous.

Foldmoss (Ralex)
This moss' leaves look like circles folded down the middle.

Thought Trees (Quercus)
These trees are connected to the roots of the might Colossal Tree, and are sapient as a result. They can communicate rapidly with each other through this connection. As trees, they are unable to do much except philosophize.

Shifty Thought Trees (Quercus)
These trees are connected to the roots of the might Colossal Tree, and are sapient as a result. They can communicate rapidly with each other through this connection. As trees, they are unable to do much except philosophize. These trees can shift their roots about slowly, though breaking contact with the Colossal Tree's roots would render them no longer sapient. They act as beacons to the Colossal Tree's communication roots. The effect is based on proximity, with physical root touching required for the full, normal effects.

Trunkfruit (Krozoa)
These trees have compact, delicious, nutritious fruit on their trunks, rather than on their branches. The fruit liquefies rapidly when ripening, becoming little more than sacks of mush not long after they'd be "ripe" by any normal fruit's standards.

FEATURES

Birdwinds (Demihemios, Superb Owl)
Fast-moving clouds sometimes take on very birdlike shapes as they travel through the sky, and frequently perform erratic, birdlike motions and changes in direction. The results often look like a flock of birds.

Colossal Tree (Quercus; Devoured)
A massive white tree that towers high above the forest around it. Grievous cracks run rampant throughout, but it remains standing. Its roots stretch out far in several directions, connecting to many trees along their path.

REGIONS

Miasma Grove (Liar)
This area is thick with a blinding miasma. The jagged black stumps of thin trees are common here, as is little else.

Stone Rapids (Korwa)
This area is predominated by several large rocks that make most of the river lengths in the area into rapids.

Alright, let's break out my personal favorite god concept.

Name: Ανθουσα
Appearance: Ανθουσα often takes the form of an ornate black throne of obsidian. The throne is carved with mysterious glyphs and symbols. From a point above the seat, at about the spot where one would sit, a stream of blood flows down, and over the sable edifice, and where it touches the runes they glow with a renewed crimson vigor. Surrounding this regal position is a menagerie of seemingly random objects, infinite in size. It is said the collection is infinite, and contains a copy of every possible object in every possible state. This vast assembly is restless, and always churning to and fro, and so too possesses a malevolent glee, darting eternally to the dark form of the throne, to the spot where the blood drips onto its surface. A constant agonized scream fills the air, and as the objects hurl themselves into it with reckless abandon the torturous cry intensifies, and a renewed stream of fresh, brightly-hued blood streams forth. The entire scene is shrouded in darkness, preserving the secrets of the Menagerie and its owner.
Personality: Ανθουσα is the incarnate spirit of pain, hardship, suffering, and the knowledge and experience gained thereby. It wishes to preserve the secrets of the world from those not worthy to see them, and test those that would seek success and growth. When dealing with life, it wishes to cause destruction and make survival difficult, that the worshippers-to-be become stronger for their trials. Ανθουσα is said to often wander the cosmos, driven on by the attraction of the desolate realms and its constant pain. The best way to contact it is to willingly subject oneself to great pain and struggle. The classical pilgrimage to gain the favor of Ανθουσα is to strip oneself of all possessions and journey out into the wasteland, defeating all encountered with bare hands. It is said that in the midst of fever set on by thirst, Ανθουσα will send a vision and reveal the secrets of the world, and save the blessed from their final rest. Ανθουσα often appears to those undergoing tragedy, and is often unpopular because of its followers' penchant for self-mutilation. When communing with mortals, Ανθουσα often takes the form of a scarred, pain-stricken young female. Ανθουσα enjoys tragic irony, and is very wry. It likes to cause death and destruction, but never so much as to wipe out divine creations, and it enjoys twisting creaturesthe beneficial into the bitttersweet. Its favored weapon is a scimitar with a jagged edge.

Name: Superb Owl
Appearance: The Superb Owl doesn't look just like any owl, it looks like a superb owl. Its feathers are shiny and healthy, its talons are hard and sharp, its gaze is piercing and its flight is more silent than a whisper. It also has the wingspan of a grown man, and could easily lift a goat or lamb in its claws.
Personality: Obviously the Superb Owl has the personality of an owl. As such it is concerned with eating, producing many healthy children, and not flying into trees and other tall objects.

Name: Korwa
Appearance: Prefers to take the form of a marble statue of a crowned noblewoman reclining on a throne. Her right hand contains a scale while the other holds an orb. The scale holds a feather and a bronze coin. The orb is decorated in glyphs and topped with a wolf's head. Boths arms are raised above the statue's head.
Personality: Korwa is initially a haughty being, naturally believing in Its own inborn superiority. As such, she tries to pry into the business of others, attempting to improve or advise their actions. This said, Korwa naturally believes in the concept of "noblesse oblige" and makes it her duty to aid those she considers lower than herself.

Name: Tesserb
Appearance: A small fairy-like being, with a large ovoid head, big eyes, a tiny mouth and no nose nor ears. Can be described as "kawai"
Personnality: Tesserb is almost always happy and careless, he likes to play tricks and games with people and animals. He alterns between hyperactivity and somnolence. Completely alien to the concept of violence outside of natural occurences such as predation.

Name: Darkbane the Car'zana
Appearence: A massive black and silver and sickly green orb. Seven massive red eyes glare form the surface of the orb, which shimmers and twists and expands and contracts in everchnaging patterns. Two massive, gaping maws with jagged, bloody teeth which drip acid mar the surface. Occasionaly, it will extend a pseudopod or other appendage.
Personality: It is sadistic in the extreme, and enjoys causing horrible pain, corrupting the innocent, and generally make things horrible for life but not horrible enough to wipe life out.
