Dorfs not eating cooked food
« on: January 09, 2014, 05:12:43 pm »

After a long time of playing a fortress I noticed that my stocks of cooked meals weren't dropping at all. I then observed one of my dwarves bring kangaroo meat to the dining hall. So it seems that my dwarves prefer to eat raw meat first before any cooked meals for some strange reason. Is there a reason why this is?

You could try making a prepared meal-only stockpile near the dining hall.

They eat whatever is closest or what they have a preference for, so far as I can tell. They don't realy care if its cooked or not. Or if it is cooked and made entirely out of finely minced fat.

it was indeed a case of closer convenience. A bit of reorganizing the stockpiles and the dorfs are eating proper food again!

...or so I thought, but it seems a bit tricky making a stockpiles accept prepared food only. It seems I can't isolate prepared food without raw stuff getting included either. Or am I missing something?

Just (f)orbid all the sub-groups in the pile, and hit (u) to enable all meals.

If it started as food stockpile, (u) prepared meals is enabled by default, but you still have to disable the rest. Having the prepared food closer will entice them more, but some will still prefer simple meat, plump helmets or various other things over roasts even

Allowing only prepared meals on a food stockpile is easily done by simply "b"locking everything at once and then selectively re-allowing prepared meals via "u". That's two keystrokes in the settings menu.

I managed to make a prepared food only stockpile closer to the dining meeting hall than the raw food stockpile, but after letting my fortress run a bit longer, quite a few dwarves still prefer eating raw meat and plain plump helmets than my lavish meals.

I feel like I should just have dedicated cooks preparing meals so that there's no raw food left...
