Blank Plays: Fallen Enchantress
« on: January 08, 2014, 04:32:26 pm »

I'm doing something strategic! Wish me lot's of luck (also the astute here will maybe notice I've done this before on here)

Blank Plays: Fallen Enchantress - Episode One - Big maces, tiny hammers

So I kick things off again on a small map, with my custom race the Kingdom of Volltur, let's see how far we can get on easy mode first before we take on a bigger challenge! Honestly I'm not great at this game, so advice is appreciated, but for now baby steps!

I stab a lone Darkling, that's something that happens. Oh and we discover all our enemies are about 3 meters away and we are bottlenecked =/

Blank Plays: Fallen Enchantress - Episode two - Meet the neighbors

We start to expand only to find two factions only a stones throw away, maybe engaging in an early war might be advantageous to me, and aggressive expansion might just give me the edge I need. Still for now there are a few different routes to go down and maybe war isn't the best idea. So for now we will play it by ear and see what happens, decisions shouldn't be taken lightly!

Cool LP. Why don't you equip the armor you looted on your sovereign/hannis?

So it seems like I'm stuck in the middle. Wonderful.

Blank Plays: Fallen Enchantress - Episode three - Beset on all sides

So we are surrounded, and the situation is far worse than I'd hoped as our expansion is bottle necked. Though I think with clever diplomacy I could take a town or two without causing flat out war amongst my neighbors.

Still the entire layout is rather tricky, with expansion forcing the faction into war. The landscape is not designed for this kind of population, like at all, so we are gonna have to try and play this by ear. Wish me luck!

Well it seems the one enemy I wished not to fight wished to fight me!

Blank Plays: Fallen Enchantress - Episode four - Mad Magnar

So everything has been ruined before it has begun! I kinda expect Magnar to win this, but going down swinging and all that! So time to gear up to war and hope that the other nations don't turn around and try and join in. If they do this will be a rather short, like incredibly short! If we win then I'm going to be pretty overpowered, since we capture and subjugate all we destroy!

perhaps it's due to the difference with the Legendary Hero's version but if your archers are that much better than your front line troops you have some pretty terrible front line infantry and you should maby design some better ones.

then again cheap and plentiful might be necessary now in order to halt the invasion

So I'm kicking ass, well currently anyway!

Blank Plays: Fallen Enchantress - Episode five - Magnar made a mistake

Either way I make brilliant progress, I manage to recapture a lost outpost and take an entire city from under Magnar. This puts us on a nearly equal footing, though he still won't push for peace, though I do feel like using this momentum to push further into his lands and take a second city and cripple him. Though this will increase my strength and maybe even put me in danger of Altar taking me on. Though I'll play it by ear once more.

Honestly in general they are a very powerful bunch of Archers, normally the situation you describe is about right. I simply haven't focused on using iron in my armies yet as it's pretty limited. I'm going for bulk number and it seems to be working for now, future wars it won't though. Not at all.

I saw that henchmen are a research option, I'm wondering how they work in the base game because in the expansion they are  heroes you can design yourself and train rather than getting randomly with their big drawback being they cost prestige.

and the main use for prestige is attracting heroes at increasingly high prestige levels since they no longer spawn randomly on the map...

if there is no prestige system in the base game you could use henchmen tech to pump out infinite custom heroes, if there is a prestige system it seems like you'd have nothing to spend it on but custom heroes...

So now two people are at war with Magnar, I call that a victory in my book!

Blank Plays: Fallen Enchantress - Episode 6 - Diplomatic shenanigans

I convinced another to join my cause, as well as proberbly increasing the chance of them liking me, since successful diplomatic relations tend to do that! We also snatch Curgen's Hold from Magnar as well, in a single fight. I'm tempted to simply steam roll the rest of his cities and growing bulbous with power!

Yeah essentially that's the deal, custom hero units, however they also retain the bonuses from the town you train them in so a high level fortress is normally the best place to make them. So it can pay off end game when you can make magic items to make henchmen honestly.

We start planning on how we are gonna win the game, in which we begin our back up plan of casting some badass magic.

Blank Plays: Fallen Enchantress - Episode 7 - Planning on winning

I manage to find unsoiled earth, a tile ungraced by the evils of Magnar. So of course I settle the fuck out of it. That and I start setting out the plans for my victory, in which we may cast a spell that makes us a god amongst men. Which I mean why wouldn't you want that?

So this is proberbly the best game of Fallen enchantress I've ever had!

Blank Plays: Fallen Enchantress - Episode 8 - The fall of an Empire

Magnar is nought but my vassal, a pawn for me to manipulate, a simple peon in my grand plan of victory. Seriously though we kick his ass and begin diplomatic shenanigans again and force Altar to go to war with Kraxis to distract them. Meanwhile I scheme and set in motion my plans of world domination!

I conquer the world of Elemental!

Blank Plays: Fallen Enchantress - Episode 9 - The rise of something greater

So I happen to try a post-commentary of this, I don't plan on making a habit of it, just it seemed to fist significantly better this time around. So yeah I finally wrap up my war with the other nations by turning around an flat out winning the map with a little help from my friend insta-win magic.

As for the game it's self, I was probably doomed to war Altar for victory either way and I wasn't actually happy to do so. It would have been a long and bloody war, which I'm sure would have ended with me winning. Though it would have been pretty frivolous, since quicker and better option where available to me. As for a diplomatic victory? Yeah right. Altar would never have allied with me and Kraxis was already crumbling before we even decided to war them. Isolated and pushed into the corner of the map. So taking the Spell of making seemed to make sense to me.

So I win and wrap up a pretty fun little game of Fallen Enchantress. In which nothing to 'exciting' happened, well besides me destroying Magnar.

So until next time!

Congratulations you pressed the "I Win" button!

you next challenge should you choose to accept it is to try again with that disabled, it's a crutch that is just holding you back.
or leave it in but don't use it yourself, try to prevent the AI from being able to cast it.

also I haven't run into all the special areas yet, but that one which you said contained epic monsters that would just murder you was the chasm where one of the elder gods or "Elementals" sleeps wasn't it? (specifically Abeix who dwells Beneath, the Earth lord and the only one I've beaten thus far...)
getting to the point where you can challenge those things is most of the fun once you can reliably pound the AI factions into the ground.

of course I'm the type who enjoys stupidly difficult extra challenges like that, but it is indeed possible to do.

Good series, wouldn't of minded a longer one but for the purposes of the let's play I can see why you preferred a more compact and faster paced playthrough, it probably would of been much less interesting if you were playing on the speeds I prefer to have my 4x games at.

Maybe for a sequel to this series you should dig out Galactic Civilizations II (Also by Stardock) for a campaign?
