Name based forts
« on: January 08, 2014, 11:13:53 am »

The RNG will often give you ridiculous names. How about building a fort based on that name?

Like "Glazepassionate" make lots of glazed objects

"Inkmarked" since there's no ink use blood instead

"Tomesstone" cover EVERYTHING with engarvings

"Tradedbridged" build the trade depot over a constructed bridge

"Ringedsplatters" blood splatters in the shape of rings

It's a dwarf.  Their natural habitat is "trapped on the wrong side of a wall".

Flinging children halfway across the map to land in magma is good, wholesome fun, but extramarital reproduction?  Why, that's just unseemly!

I once had a fort named "GreatestBodice."  Sucks that bodices aren't actually a clothing item you can make, otherwise I would've churned those out!

since there's no ink

The Nazi inside me tells me to inform you there IS in fact, ink. Octopi squirt it when they're spotted by an enemy.

Also, if you've got wooden furniture in the dining hall, you have some big issues anyways.
This is Dwarf Fortress, not the Fluffy Wambler Express.

I once started a fort on a mountain. The fort was named Rightscanyon.

And now, by all Rights, it is a Canyon.

This type of thing was attempted over on the community forts section, but died from lack of interest.

I have a fort called machinestorm. So naturally it is dedicated to diabolical traps and extremely elaborate machinery. Automated silk farms, multi lever magma protected tresure vault and 150z level magma dispensing minecart computers capable of delivering a nice magma bath, fine magma mist or magma rail gun to well above ground level.

Well, I just got a fort named 'LakeTome' so I suppose I should keep slabs and historical things under our lake. Due to embark itself, I will probably make the fort above ground, as it has an interesting (compared to what I usually get) Split biome:

I suppose I could split the map in two, and keep records on one side? It would be so much easier if it was 'LakeTomb', we embarked next the lake and migrants kept getting kicked in by the bloody horse before I made a better meeting zone  :-\.

I have a fort called Carnagemines. (The RNG gods were kind.)

...it's not living up to its name extremely well, but only because I haven't left any entrances to the caves. If I had, it would be named perfectly.

What would it be like to live in a world that was copy/pasted? Would we even notice? If not, how many times have we switched celestial harddrives or whatever?

I keep spinning the RNG until I get a name that makes me laugh.  So I have forts called things like Frillygranite and Trumpetvirgins.

My most recent fort turned out to be Fikodkôn, Glazemaster, on a volcano with clay. So I figured, all right, this is my chance to live up to the name.

433 ash-glazed large pots and a lot of deforestation later, I finally figured out that there's a bug that prevents the glazing skill from ever training.

When I attempted to imitate the Deepwater Horizon disaster with HFS, I went to enter the ridiculously-long name I'd come up with only to find that the RNG had chosen the much better Oilgulfs.

I'm working on a fort right now in the shape of an upside down boot that's called Murderboot.

My current fort is called "Bothplanks"
If I'm expected to work based on that name I would manufacture exclusively wooden construction materials...

So my fort right now, Ownrag, needs to make clothes. Too bad we're not really in that good of a position for that right now...

I'm sorry your husband had a strange mood and ended up making a useless trinket out of useless materials without gaining any experience in the process.
