Pokemon Tabletop United: Wild SpaceThis is the story of the Colony Ship Torterra, which departed from its home world, a democratic self governed planet of little significance, to settle what scans show to be a lush and fertile world deep in the dangerous region known as wild space.
Wild Space is home to many quasars and white hole, all emitting strange matter, energy, and lifeforms. This weirdness also has the usually sort-of-reasonable Black Pontificate Patrols on edge; they tend to shoot first and ask questions never in these dangerous parts.
Although these dangers did indeed prove to be ever-present, the biggest threat to the passengers of the Torterra turned out to be one another. The various factions aboard were constantly at each other’s throats, and several attempted mutinies were put down, the most recent of which left the captain dead. It was only then that everybody discovered that the ship had a very old AI failsafe protocol to be activated in the case of the captains death…
This failsafe placed control of the ship in the hands of five relatively inexperienced humans who just happened to carry the Commander Gene. You are one such lucky human, and now the fate of the Torterra lies in the hands of you and your peers.
When and How We Will Play:This campaign will be run via maptools on Thursdays, some time between 6 and 8pm PST.
House Rules:-Applications will not be first come first serve. I will select characters based on strength of back story and balance of faction loyalty.
-Anything from the PTU 1.03 Handbook and/or the ‘Do Porygon Dream of Mareep’ supplement is fair game. Stuff from ‘The Blessed and the Damned’ supplement may be made available upon request. All these documents, as well as the Pokedex, can be found
here-Unless otherwise noted, everything has a home gravity capability of 3.
-The new update, containing stuff from Pokemon X and Y, will likely come out at some point during the course of this game's run. We will apply these updates right away when they become avaible.
-Most Pokemon are sentient, and many speak languages that a universal translator is familiar with.
-Pokeballs are dangerous objects powered by a contained spacial distortion. Any being loses HP for each round in which they come in contact with a Pokeball. The HP lost is equal to the absolute value of the balls capture bonus plus 3. Pokeball exposure HP loss will never KO the target of a capture attempt. A captured creature may safely touch its own Pokeball. A human with the Commander Gene may safely touch any Pokeball.
-Pokeballs have brainwashing abilities. During the capture process, basic obedience is instilled in any creature, so even hostile sentient beings start at loyalty 2. In addition most Pokeballs have a Bond Enforcer switch. When switched on, the Bond Enforcer raises the captured creatures loyalty by 1 every three encounters. A creature whose loyalty is raised to 7 this way is permanently stripped of free will, and becomes its owner’s unquestioning puppet.
-It is highly dangerous, even for somebody with the Commander Gene, to keep more than 6 full Pokeballs on one’s person. A PC system is in effect. You can access your storage from your personal cabin or the bridge.
-Loyalty is no longer a secret stat, and players are responsible for tracking the loyalty of all their Pokemon.
-Humans without the command gene may be captured and treated like a Pokemon. I will write up a dex entry/details if somebody actually pulls that off.
-The default currency for this campaign is the Printer Credit. Printer Credits are backed up by guaranteed access to the ship’s 3d Bioplastics Printer. These credits are likely worthless outside of the ship, and the currency is vulnerable to collapse should anything happen to the printer systems.
Character Generation and Ship Store:-Start at TL3 with 12000 Printer Credits
-Start with an ultra light-weight combination space suit and gravity modification suit
-Start with a single faction edge (Optional) (See section below)
-You can buy any medicine, vitamin or pokeball (except masterballs) listed in the handbook or the sci-fi supplement at the listed price.
-The ship is capable of printing Golett, Nosepass, Solosis, and Castform. A level 10 Golett, Solosis, or Nosepass can be obtained at any time for 1500 Printer Credits. A level 10 Castform can be obtained at any time for 3000 printer credits. You can pay 1.5 times the normal price to have a Pokemon custom printed. When purchasing a custom printed Pokemon, you may choose the Pokemon’s nature, ability, and if applicable, gender; You may also select a single tutor move for your custom printed Pokemon to start with.
The Factions:Five warring factions exist on the ship, each strong enough to cause all sorts of trouble. Each faction has a Mood Score that ranges from -15 to 15. For each positive point of Mood a faction has, there is a 5% chance that the faction will do something beneficial for the ship upon jumping into a new system. For each negative point of mood a faction has, there is a 5% chance that the faction will do something harmful towards the ship or its inhabitants.
Players can get involved with the factions if they so choose. Each faction has five edges that represent progression through that factions’ ranks. A single character may only take edges from two factions, and may only take the third, fourth, and fifth edge, which imply faction membership, from a single faction. A factions third, fourth, and fifth edge remain hidden until a player is invited to join the faction.
Below is a list of the factions, and their first two edges. Remember that you can take a free faction edge during character creation if you so choose.
The Academy of Hector: Hector was a simple nurse aboard the Torterra, who managed to claim the positions of both the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Science Officer upon the highly suspicious deaths of his predecessors. Hector makes no attempt to hide the fact that he is a mad scientist, power hungry, and likely responsible for the deaths of his predecessors, but people flock to serve him out of gratitude anyway. Hector is personally capable of performing many medical miracles. He also is responsible for boosting the shields and warp pads, so that the Torterra has a fair chance of surviving encounters with even military grade ships. The Academy of Hector is interested in scientific experimentation and seizing power for its leader.

The Pilgrims expect to find great magical and technological wonders upon arrival, and fear that the unworthy and sinful aboard the Torterra may claim them. A major police crackdown lead the Malones to flee the planet, dividing their remaining high ranking members and loot among several colony ships, including the Torterra. The Malone Litter already has a successful protection racket aboard the ship, and a reputation for assassinating officers that cross them. Many passengers and crew quickly rallied around the new Torterra Defense Division, and their promise of stability and an end to factional in-fighting. The Blood Unity Party: Nobody was surprised when a Chapter of the popular Blood Unity Party was formed aboard the Torterra. The Blood Unity Party preaches that certain species and bloodlines, including humans with the Commander Gene, are superior beings with a birthright to rule. They also preach that it is the responsibility of such beings to be just rulers, and to protect the lesser people under their rule. The BUP was popular on the planet, and as such has many partisans among the passengers and crew. The Blood Unity Party wants to set up a quasi-marxist society lead by humans with the Commander Gene and pseudo-legendary pokemon, but are willing to wait until planetfall to pursue that goal.
