Now the spell says you don't have to make climb checks, and gives you a climb speed of 20ft. Now does that mean I don't have to take climb checks at all, or just one at the start?

You can climb as easily as you walk.

Well, you have to make climb checks for things like rough terrain, just like you make checks to avoid slipping on ice.
