Dark Subterrainean tiles...
« on: January 05, 2014, 01:27:16 pm »

Is their any way other than using dfhack tiletypes to create these tiles? The wiki says it's impossible, and I even attempted to do something the wiki doesn't mention by creating solid natural walls with obsidian , then abandoning and reclaiming, but to no avail. I am currently working on a massive cast-obsidian fort, and even though technically it's aboveground (because I have to empty out an ocean to cast it), I would like it to be considered subterranean because the farms will be inside the fort.

No, once a tile is exposed to light, the above ground tag stays no matter what you do. Without using DFhack that is.

Well then, I guess I'll have to cast a tunnel to the mainland for the dwarven crops. At least I won't have to do anything about cave adaptation :p

You might be able to do something with tiletypes, but I don't use that feature, so I don't know how well it would work.

Yeah, I'm contemplating whether or not to use the tiletypes tool. I'm already semi-cheating by turning off invasions and strange moods just to make my life easier because by my current estimate, it's going to take 12 years to drain out the ocean in the area in which I will build the obsidian mold. It would be infinitely easier to simply cast the obsidian over the ocean and drop it in with a cave-in....but I want my design to have pillar-like supports and not just be a solid block all the way to the ocean floor.

I was under the impression that cave adaptation only had to do with light level, not underground/aboveground. I could very well be wrong though.

Cave adaptation increases when in "Dark" tiles and decreases when in "Outside" tiles, and if it happens to be sunny outside (i.e. not raining or snowing), being outside will also cause the usual negative effects (dizziness or nausea).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
