If you're going to limit yourself to half-baked AAA re-releases you're going to have a bad time.
This was key. 2013 did have some pretty big disappointments in the AAA realm. If you rely on AAA console ports, GTA V, Bioshock Infinite, and Assassin's Creed 4 were the only really satisfying releases. Tomb Raider was also worth playing, though I would have been disappointed if I paid full release price, and its DLCs were a complete waste of money. I haven't given Saints Row 4 a try yet. Batman and BF4 were fun if you wanted to play the same damn game yet again.
PC-wise, lots of other high profile games bombed hard, particularly SimCity and TW: Rome 2. (Protip: Notice how about half the TW games were catastrophies upon release. We all should know better by now.)
On the other hand, PC had alot of really amazing niche hits. Paradox fans had a amazing year, with lots of great DLC for CK2 as well as the release of EU4. If you have friends, Terraria 1.2 and PAYDAY 2 were great co-op titles. XCOM got an amazing expansion. If you spend any time on this forum, you're probably also aware of just how enjoyable Kerbal Space Program, Prison Architect, and a couple of other supposedly Alpha titles are. Lots of other great little indie games too, like Papers Please, Fez, The Swapper, Gone Home, The Stanley Parable, and a half dozen others that'll probably pop up in a Humble Bundle in the next six months.
Of course if you have a gaming PC and you aren't downloading mods, "you're doing it wrong." Nexusmods has had a hell of a year consolidating seemingly every mod community in existence, including the Mount and Blade titles. If you aren't using their downloader for your Bethesda games, you're only punishing yourself at this point. Bay12-wise, the Masterwork series for DF has gotten ridiculously amazing if you haven't tried it recently.
So yeah, widen your perspective by farming threads in this sub-forum. If you're rely on 50+ dollar pre-ordered (WHY?) AAA titles, you're going have a bad time.
