Read earlier posts, reaction fire is broken in the main version, the nightly build seems to be working though, I'm on the browser version and reactions work.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

There is no "reaction" action. You must leave enough TUs for them to fire a weapon, and have them face a direction the enemy could appear from. Depending on their Reaction stat, they will fire on things in their view if they can.

You know, with all those Cyberdisk Wrecks... let's have Engineering put them to use!

Name: R4-Q7
Weapons: Anything that can be mounted to his frame or outer shell. Mostly laser weapons though.
Bio: Made from parts recovered from the destroyed Cyberdisks recovered on the second Terror Mission, this metal contraption seems more like a trash can on wheels, than anything else. The robot seems to enjoy playing pranks on those who aren't looking. The main source of his programming came from the computer that the Air Force set up to control their nuclear arsenal (it was discontinued due to the fact that it malfunctioned... see War Games to get the full story). The only thing that Engineering let it do is communicate by whistles, chirps, and beeps. Probably the standard Engineering pranks.

What is this?! This isn't XCOM! Where are the deaths, the screams, the bodies of humanities "finest"?

Alright, thanks broseph.

I can confirm that, in OpenXCom, the soldiers do not have reaction fire of any kind, even facing an alien in the next square over who is firing at them (and missing), with full TU.

Actually, I can confirm that they can reaction fire, if not often. One of the Johns (we have way too many Johns) killed a Sectoid with reaction fire in the last mission. Shame he died to a sniping Cyberdisk.

No John you are the Johns. And then John was a John.

Anyway, conscript reporting.

Name: Ida Miller
Preferences: Any weapon, non-terrible accuracy.
Bio: Sister of the now deceased John Miller, she joined because when they were kids John borrowed $5 and she never forgot. Now it's up to $30 because interest and it's time to collect. she wanted to kill the aliens that killed her brother. She won't forget if you borrow money, obviously. At least she's less rude than her brother, and has held a rifle before.

Let me amend that, then. The main version that I have has no reaction fire.

Clearly we need to differentiate our Johns better.

Our first John will be a john, and thus frequent prostitutes. For the curious, this is the point at which "John" stopped looking like a real word.
Our second John will be a john, and thus be a toilet somebody has taped a gun to. I am sad to say there is ample precedent for this.
Our third John will be a John Doe, and thus nobody will be sure who he is when he dies. This, too, probably has entirely too much precedent, so we might need a new one.

Thus concludes my lecture on making our faceless plasma-charred meat husks more memorable. Tune in next time for how to sugoi your kawaii and desu your nii-chan!

Well my John is part of a psychic gestalt that kind of acts like a hivemind.

Which would be consistent with them being a toilet!
