river in a desert
« on: January 02, 2014, 07:57:52 am »

Is it even possible to generate a world that has rivers running through desert regions? It looks like in order for rivers to spawn you need high rainfall and high drainage, where as deserts need extremely low rainfall and low drainage. Has anyone else ever seen a desert with a river at all? If so, is there a trick to getting them to spawn?

it's definately possible. The high rainfall etc cen be on one side of a mountain and the river will follow the lowest path (sort of, don't know the details how the worldgen handles it) which can go through a region with almost no rainfall ie a desert.

I know it's possible because I found one once. I never looked for it though, so I don't know if it's rare. Plus it wasn't a big river.

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

I see deserts with rivers all the time. Rivers won't usually start in a desert, but they certainly can and do flow through them.
