Goblin Tower in DF 34.11

Check that out. According to the Wiki Goblins aren't supposed to become necromancers... but apparently one did in this world. Is this a bug, or is this just extremely rare?

Is it possible for a civilization to conquer a tower? Maybe it was a human tower initially, and then the goblins stole it?

Strange, did you do any modding?

I have no idea whether it's possible for a civilization to conquer a tower, doubt it.

Try looking at the history of the tower and its residents, use legendviewer to make it easier. That place is going to have an interesting history.

Also, could you post the worldgen parameters?

Edit: Is that a pocket world? That map is tiny.

Sure here are the worldgen parameters. While it's set to stop at 50% megabeast death, I rarely reach that point in world gen. Usually I just wait until I see 5 or 6 necro towers and then stop it myself.

*EDIT: (removed redundant world gen parameters - see reply #5)

Oh also, I don't have any mods - it's vanilla DF. I generally use pocket worlds because I play on a laptop with a cruddy processor. Generating larger maps takes a LONG time.

I'm going to need the seeds of that specific world, otherwise it would be a different world.

How do I get the seed? I don't know where to look.

Well, if you saved the world, go to start playing, go to that save, legends mode, then press 'p' to export the worldgen and history info. Then go to the main DF folder and find the region(whatever number it is) world_gen_param.txt

Edit: Thanks, got it. Although the history seems to be going different. Probably should try it with a clean vanilla world.

Edit2: WAIT, this one also has a goblin tower, different location and different name though. Stopped it at year 305, several decades after the tower was founded.

Took a quick look using legends viewer and while it does say there isn't a goblin necromancer. Investigating using an adventurer.

Edit3: Force starved to death because I wanted to check map and restarted and further away. So, it'll take a while, what with crossing mountain ranges.

Hey thanks for your help! I think I will try to reach the tower as an adventurer too. I've never really played adventurer mode before, so I wouldn't be surprised if I die horribly halfway there.

I'm using the avatar of armok thing, so I'm not worried about hunger or thirst, it's just trudging through mountain ranges instead of fast travel.

The founding necromancer is the descendant of humans that were abducted generations ago and the necromancer himself is a member and a former leader of that goblin civ, so that would explain why it's called a goblin tower.

Arn't all goblin settlements towers? Dark Towers, true, and I forgot if the pinkish I was the necromancer or the goblin version. There are a lot of towers there, it looks like, so that either makes it goblin-settled area or a lot of necromancers

According to Legends, my goblin tower "Ommulsnodub" was founded in year 115. The screenshot I took was when I decided to stop the world gen and look around at all my towers. I don't know why the seeds are turning out different results. Are certain parts of world generation random no matter what? Like combat and unit interactions?

All the "randomness" is generated by the random number generator based on the RNG seed, a fully deterministic non-random process. Running two world gens with the same parameters using the same seed _should_ produce the exact same results, down to "Dostngosp O'Goblin's third toe, right foot was cut by Elfy Elfsdottir using an oak long sword".

Different results could occur by using different RNG programs (is this realistically possible?) _or_ if the various creature and object raws weren't exactly the same - e.g. making dwarfs be o.k. with cannibalism at world gen should produce different interactions with other civilisations, changing all history practically from year one.

Re: "goblin tower" - either goblin necros can occur in your world (changed goblin raws?) or worldgen (the latter'd be an undocumented feature, goblins shouldn't become necros, because they don't age); or the goblin civ somehow got into possession of a tower, presumably by conquering it in battle. Sites can be taken over by other civs in worldgen, resulting in "dwarven dark fortress" (conquered goblin site) and the like. Dunno if towers are enough of a worldgen entity to actually engage in war, though.

What's the legends entry say about those towers? There should be more info available than just the foundation.
