This most recent change alienates all previous competitive builders in the game. It reduces the engineering challenge and building complexity. It is a step backwards. :)

True. The problem with getting random drops is you may have to grind X battles just to get that specific parts that you need to complete your bot. Back then, you could approximate the amount of battles it'd take to be able to afford the parts you need. Now it's totally random.

The only solution if the crates are to stay is to significantly increase the recycle value of random drops, say to between 50% to 75%.

The random nature hurts as well. Nothing like finally getting a Diamond crate  to find 20 basic armor blocks inside.

Also, I think something is wrong with the purple tier Plasma Launcher. It is doing basically no damage. I've gotten full direct hits with multiple blasts at pretty good range on bots and only scratched them, while the single purple tier SMG on my bot can hit and knock off a noticeable chunk of health. The plasma is supposed to do 30k damage compared to the SMG's 20k.

But I have a lower tier version on a different bot (which is higher CPU rating, actually) and the three of them blow things to bit exactly as I would expect. So...no idea what is going on. Anyone else see this?

I have had the opposite of your plasma issue.

Protonium crate with 140 blocks and a cosmetic. I appreciate their attempt at being fair/random, but they need to lower the chance to get blocks in the fancier crates. The best one I've had is a bronze crate that had a purple radar receiver in it, and 20 blocks.

Extra post to point out hotfix.
Quote
Salvage Crate Changes

Common Items now appear less in Gold, Diamond and Protonium Salvage Crates, and more in Rusted, Bronze and Silver Salvage Crates to create a better difference (statistically) in the quality of Crate
Uncommon and Rare Items now appear more in Gold, Diamond and Protonium Salvage Crates, and less in Rusted, Bronze and Silver Salvage Crates
Cosmetic Masks now appear less across all Salvage Crates
Players in Team Deathmatch who are destroyed now receive a Bronze Crate if they die and are in the top half of the scoreboard, and a Rusted Crate if they die and are in the bottom half of the scoreboard
Players will now have to do more damage/healing in Team Deathmatch to make sure they receive a Salvage Crate (previously it was 1 CPU of damage/healing)
Legendary Wheel Monster and Legendary Steering Wheel Monster now appear in pairs
Better.

PSK Changes (went live yesterday)

Power consumption per shot was changed from 0.995 to 1.485, which doubles the ‘Power Consumption Per Second’ in the case of constant fire. So before with 5 PSKs you were able to run from 100 to 0 Power in 10 seconds, now it’s 5 seconds
This is an overall nerf, but it’s mostly designed to reduce the effectiveness of small fast single PSK bots in low CPU matches
The fire-rate of the PSK grows non-linearly as per the following table:

#Guns    1    2    3    4    5
Shots per sec    8    12    15    18    20
Tiny psk hover drone nerf is also better.

Rail Changes

    Damage changes:
        Rail Decimator – 5% reduction
        Rail Erazer – 15% reduction

    Nominal fire-rate requirements changed:
Rail Piercer – 9 guns (down from 12)
Rail Penetrator – 8 guns (down from 10)
Rail Decimator – 7 guns (down from 8)
        Rail Erazer – no change

The reload time for having only one rail has been buffed to 4.5 seconds (excludes the largest rail which already had this starting reload time)
I like my rails in this update, damnit. Might help fliers not get torn apart by Erazers as quickly, I guess.

Matchmaking Improvements

This was not in the patch notes yesterday, but the match-making takes into account Player Skill, Player Level and CPU of Robot
A few bug fixes in the match-making have been fixed in today’s hotfix so that the Player Level, Player Skill and CPU factors are correctly applied
If you say so, FJ.

Skill based match making sounds like bullshit. If you get any good you get upgraded to get rek tier and if you're usually good but have a bad day it will ruin you.

The premium cash stuff wasn't converted to Robits, it's still money in your account. They just moved it from their pretend currency to real money. If you go to buy, say, a day of Premium time it'll show up in the shop.

So I was initially uber-pumped about the new update, even with all the negative feedback it was getting. The ability to get anything regardless of level sounded awesome to me, however there were some things I don't like.

I managed to get my hands on a protonium crate. Opening it (as a non-premium guy) I landed 20 cubes and if I had premium I would have gotten 20 of those 'inner' angled cubes. This was the rarest kind of crate available, after the hotfix, and I got absolute fuck-all.

My currency wasn't converted over properly, either. I had 10 000+ of the free stuff and ended up with 100 robits.

The fucking exchange rate.

They did too much at once, yeah. Implement boxes and robits, sure. Convert GC to Actual Moneys, sounds fine. Cut prices by x63, weird choice but ok, but why not just cut zeroes off things instead if you wanted to reduce prices. Reduce sellback prices at the same time nope. Bad idea. Terrible idea. Gonna cause problems.

And then it turns out their attempt to sound very fair (only somewhat-weighted random loot boxes!) is a huge screwup because you can still get cubes in protonium boxes. I had a day of premium from a code in the chat on patch day, and got a BA Protonium crate with 140 cubes in it. Thats 7/8ths of the box wasted, 1/8th wasted on a useless cosmetic mask part.

Oh well, I shall die happily knowing that I made Airwolf. even if it kinda sucks as a combat bot.
The low exchange rate may be understandable if that is how the whole system was previously, from day dot, but it's not. We had a perfectly functioning 100% (?) returns system before epic loot.

I like the whole idea behind epic loot. It was just implemented wrongly. If I get a rusted crate, I'd expect a 50/50 chance of getting blocks/not blocks. If I get a protonium crate, I do NOT want any chance of getting blocks, I want more guns.

You used to get a flat 50% back for selling stuff.  They did do 100% back for about a week after they removed megas.

Now you anywhere from maybe 40% to 10% depending on rarity.  The mask parts sell for less than 1% of what they cost.

More like between 0.25% to 33%. That is assuming you don't get cubes out of the loot crates. Even Protonium loot crate (highest reward) only have about 3% chance of dropping an Epic item.

Also now, your match score doesn't matter anymore. The awarded loot crates are based on your rank position assuming you win. If you lost, even if you carried the team, you'd get a Bronze maximum.

Well, your match score is what determines where you are on the leaderboard.

Its just that winners get their score doubled, which basically guarantees they're on top.  Losers either get bronze, or rusted if they are on the bottom half of the losing team.

Not that box grades make a significant difference.  You'll probably get 20 inner cubes either way.

Previously, even if we lost, but we scored well, we'd get reasonable amount of RP. Now it's all-or-nothing to get the crates. If you're in a bad team, no matter how well you played, you'd get a Bronze Crate maximum. And spot on, even if you get lucky by being in a good team and scoring high, you'd then have to deal with the randomness of the crate drops. What an #EpicFail update.

This game has ALOT of potentials, but FreeJam is shooting its own foot, especially with an attitude like this:
