So, the game decidedly has health bars now, just represented by the size of your armor.  Skeletal blocks are made by the game.  Functional parts cannot be shot off, but the whole bot must be destroyed.

In that case, fliers just became the only thing worth playing.  You can't use a rail to shoot off their wings/rotors anymore, so they become HIGHLY stable and durable - in fact they become just as durable as any treaded tank.  I also believe this means rails will become either more effective for their high point of damage, or less effective because nothing falls off, and that plasmas will get massively more effective while smg just a bit of a buff.  Nano might also become godlike.  You don't lose bits, so two nanobots healing each other will always have 6/6 guns active at all times, healing each other.  Similarly healing another bot means the attacking bot can focus fire while the nano keeps its chunk health alive more easily.

I'll personally be preparing some broadside style nano walkers.  4 tiny legs, 6 nanos mounted as close to the legs as possible, and then broad strokes of armor.  It'll be a long, narrow bot that mainly fires on the left and right side.  Similarly, front-mounted SMGs will be favored.

In other news, has anyone tried using T1 mech legs and T10 jets to make a jumpjet walker?

But t1 legs are basically just mobile, superior t1 eps at that point. Wouldn't you want better legs?

I'm not against health bars, game had % before and it was just fine. but if you can't shoot out components and combat effectiveness never decrease until death, we might very well just play this

I think it’s pretty clear that many users have major concerns about the changes outlined in Chapter 3, so i’m going to sit down with the devs at Freejam and discuss all your feedback.

We’ll take a big step back, read all the feedback, and then come back to you when we have a plan.

Nothing is set in stone at all at this point.

The idea is to have jets strong enough to enhance your jump, but not enough to fly.  So you end up with super jumps!

Part 4 is go. (Additional thing too)
This one is essentially a revision of part 3, after they spent literally all of yesterday reading what sounds like the entire feedback forum, plus the subreddit. Have a list:
  • Next launch: Unity 5.
  • Remove hitscan. Even on the smg. 'Add proper area effect', along with Nano/Rail improvements. This will show up in a later part.
  • No change to damage model. Remove Pilot seat, instead die when % of bot remains. (SCUs to be converted into modules with a cpu cost)
  • Increase CPU cap at all levels. Significantly increase cost of functional components but not armor blocks.
  • Redundancy is not bad if you have to choose it over more speed or health or damage or a weapon select feature!
  • Paint Tools. Eventually.

Ugh this game is already the war of the thick armored turtles as it is.

But then again... having enemies who don't have a bazillion weapons on them might be more fun.

that sounds a lot better. nice to see devs listening to players.

in fact, im going to use the robocraft forums for the first time because of it.

though I wonder how the lack of a seat will turn out.... ???

edit-

bty I did some work after buying some new bays.

----testing
--mech/climber hybrid
-plausible.
there are issues with the weight of the mech legs dragging you down when clinging. when actually climbing you just move slow but when you stop you tend to slowly descend.

(note- this happened less frequently in actual matches rather than all the time like in the test arena, leading me to believe the rougher terrain in actual matches may allow these types of hybrids to exist as a practical design.)

also test show that placing climbing legs on the back as well, dispite sounding like a good idea, were not only ineffective in allowing clinging, also cause graphical/collision issues. a climber leg placed on the back facing behind you clips into itself in odd ways when moving if combined with mech legs. this also happens with climbing legs on the side.

-note, the interesting slightly leaning posture that results from this combination reminds me of a a humanoid form, walking on all fours with the torso raised higher than the lower body. this leads me to call this a savage hybrid

-conclusion. savage hybrids are possibly viable and may eventually be clinging. for now they allow you to "slowly" scale obstacles that a normal mecha would have issues traversing

-------pictures later. don't have time right now-

-flyer mech info later, don't have time right now.

actually, combat is too fast. in alpha it was quite slower, so you could actually pin the enemy down, flank it, disengage, you name it. now it's W+1 compared to what it was back then.

Coincidentally my most-used craft is called w+1.

Part the fifth, which has eight words in its title, not five. This one's still mostly about the building and its still basically a list of ideas, so I'm not going to write the whole thing out again. I'll point out some interesting bits though.

-Needs more explanation: 'Have a single Carbon 6 Armor type, all cubes in your existing bots effectively upgraded to Carbon 6'. Not sure if this messes with the already existing C6 block collection, or if its supposed to mean something else. Theres a note at the bottom of the post regarding reimbursement for carbon 6 cube perchases (or hallow cube purchases with rp) however.
-Paint all the things!
-Unlock all modes again (Took you long enough! >:(),  finish the hub, co-op pve, other modes, etc.
-Dump the tech tree entirely, and possibly also RR? Make cpu-based (plus 'designer and fighter skill') MM.
-Small SMG (inaccurate non-hitscan bullet hose) vs Large SMG (Naval Destroyer comparison, giant slow non-hitscan shots), same sort of idea for other weapon types instead of increasingly pain-in-the-ass gun sizes.
-More kinds of functional parts faster due to not needing to make 11 versions per component.
-Cubes probably cheap as dirt, components probably really damn expensive in rp.

I somehow really doubt it that a Internet-based brainstorm is going to get anything good at the end. Saw too many times the opposite happening. It really isn't a good alternative for a proper systematic approach to game design.

Really, do they even have a design document, or are they just making things up on the basis of "this seems like a fun thing to do"? Because this way lies Starbound.

They haven't decided for random trolling or collapsed into a team of artists yet like starbound, they're probably fine.
And it wasn't exactly a brainstorm pre-hubbub, anyways. it was "hey, we're redoing our alpha. heres the plan:"

>Got rid of tech tree so you don't have to grind endlessly to unlock new parts, just CPU

Wow, this game might actually be worth playing again.
