I'm waiting to see how they plan to implement competitive Robocraft. It's not like every bot is going to be exactly the same.

Part 3: The part no one likes the sound of, because its actually specific. Kill mandatory redundancy by giving bots an internal skeleton. An indestructable one.

So they're going to remove one of the only things that actually made this game unique?

Shooting off wheels and guns or shooting wings and seeing planes crash was fun, as was trying not to die with two wheels, one gun and a thruster in an inconvenient location.

I agree that triforcing was pretty dumb and unintuitive, but this is pretty overboard. They could just have fixed it by making the "connectivity hitboxes" of all blocks the same.

I don't know...it's good and bad. Good for people who want to make interesting bots that don't conform to a lot of the basic game meta stuff. Bad for people who liked that experience.

Maybe they should have two modes, one for creative bots and one with the old system with pre-built bots. That'd give you the option for interesting lego-combat stuff and another for the competitive can you out-gun/fly/drive your opponents.

One mech leg.  Small frame of skeletal blocks facing forward, with 6 SMG.  Entire rear of the bot is one MASSIVE cube of armor.  As I take damage, my skeleton is still intact because of armor, so all damage is directed to the chunk of armor.  My forward guns rip into the enemy as my back plate of armor slowly falls apart.

Alternatively, a few armor cubes encased in skeleton, which is indestructible, thus no one can shoot the armor and it survives all attacks, and I'm indestructible.

I haven't played RC in ages, but it has to do with how damage propagates. It only propagates to connected blocks, so triforcing used connected layers of half-blocks that aren't connected with blocks below them to make effective layers of armor which would not cause any damage to underlying layers when hit.
Also used on weapon mounting points so you had to either hit the weapon or the block it's mounted on because the adjacent blocks aren't connected to the mounting point.

It's counterintuitive and very finicky to do, so it caused a big difference between players who knew how to do it and players who didn't.

this is superbad.

bye bye any resemblance of skill in shooting off wheels and driving back a bot, or removing wings from an annoying plasma flyer. the direction that brings is basically worse than being two grunt in starcraft, doing their puny animation chipping away a little of each other health over time.

For clarification. The skeleton is generated automatically by a path-finding algorithm that connects all the functionals. You do not need to build the skeleton, you just need to build the Robot you want. Shooting any part of the Robot will deal damage to the Robot. The health lost is represented by the cubes that fall off.

I still have no idea what they're doing at this stage.

From what I understand, the skeleton is generated by an algorithm so you can't encase blocks in it. Though if that could work then the damage would just propagate from the skeleton blocks to the regular ones. Unless I'm misunderstanding things, each robot has a health value based on how many blocks of armour they have. As such the configuration of the blocks doesn't matter, except for determining whether you were hit by a shot or not. So the first idea should work, but it should be no more effective than a robot with the exact same parts distributed in a different way. Unless you could somehow manipulate the game to have your back piece of armour shot off with minimal affect to your HP, so that you end up with a very tiny yet sturdy robot running around.

I'm getting the feeling that neither do they. There's just a bunch of grasping at straws going on.

Sounds like I escaped this game just in time to avoid dealing with shit like this. Makes me real glad I've done it, I've already felt the game was going places, and this was when there were no wings and legs.

I think I'll wait for chapter 4, maybe something more relevant will appear there.
