Fractured Space had a free-and-keep weekend last weekish (it even was in the SALES thread!). Basically, you have spaceships that feel reasonably weighty, nice enough space graphics, and the downsides of being in alpha. You warp to seperate sectors in the map, two are sides to the map with capturables, a timed capturable buff station in a center region, and two base regions that require you capture far enough into one side to reach. The capturable bases on the sides produce resources to build up the team level.

Also doesn't heroes of the storm have like, 6 maps or something? Haven't paid much attention to it.

Fractured Space, if you're interested.

MOBAs, basically multiplayer online battle arena games. Combination of base defence, resource gathering, and team fighting. Replayability typically comes from the multiplayer aspect (expect different players in pub matches, so different strategies on both teams most of the time), not so much from the arena aspect of the genre (ie different maps).

If I go into games and my colleagues convince me to make a MOBA, I'll start with the idea of multiple maps & maps of many sizes right off the bat, before getting into characters.

On topic, I decided to see just how gutted my old crafts got when they changed the research system. Since I hadn't played for months now, of course all that was left was one set of wheels and some random bricks on one craft, and the other craft retained it's pill-shape and guns but nothing else.

... Ouch. Hopefully you've got enough RP to update your crafts.

Ah, someone else has disdain for tiering? I played robocraft for a while, and that's the reason I stopped. There were two reasons I stopped - tiering feeling dumb and pointless, and the games having very limited avenues for player cooperation is pretty bad, considering the gameplay is very cooperative.

I think robocraft can learn a lot by studying TF2 and how it operates. TF2 is, as far as I know, the most popular and successful immersed goal-oriented PvP games of the last decade, and it shouldn't be ignored.

Just had my quickest battle mode session ever.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A quick move over the bridge with another SMG and we fired off at their flyers, occupying and damaging them. He charged towards their base and I moved towards the right tower, where an epic battle was occurring with multiple medics on both sides. They were unprepared for me flanking into them and I quickly swung the battle in our favor, especially once I got repaired by a friendly medic. We then capped the tower from them, locking down all four and bringing down their fusion shield. After that, our entire team rushed the base and gg wp

Since you can presumably get more kills per mission, since you can respawn, does that translate into faster leveling up? RP or money or XP or whatever.

Feels like more rp to me. More fun either way, since if you get shot up w/ no medics you aren't doomed to be stuck forever on a rock.

that or they have reduced the amount you get from the classic mode. (hopefully that have not gone done that slippery slope)

Teiring isn't a bad idea per say, there are many things you could do with machines of many tiers. You could use it as an alternate way to balance matches and allow multiple tiers in a single game. Tiers could serve as a way to gate complexity.

The issue is that the tiers are currently arbitrary for the most part...

And there is absolutely no reason to EVER play at a lower tier other then "you can't make the grade"

Definitely more RP and TP from regular battle mode. Not too sure about levelling, because I hit lvl 100 before the new mode got released, so I can't test that firsthand.

I don't think the amount of RP you get in classic mode has been reduced.

Yeah but classic mode was really harsh towards less well built machines.

I'll tell you the game was PAINFUL if you had a string of machines that were lucky to get "a" kill.

Been there, I agree it's painful, but I guess how painful it is depends on why you're playing the game: namely are you playing it for the building aspect, or for the battle aspect?

Now there are a couple of popular ways to remedy this situation.
1. Go to forums and whine prematurely about "balance issues". After all, it's an alpha game seeking input, so you're doing the right thing.

2. Reinforce and improve your favourite bot, either through sheer willpower or by cribbing popular builds from the internets.

3. Log off and never return because it's too painful to actually have fun.

I actually am currently doing the third!

I didn't want to scrap my current machine... but... that means I need to build a new one...

Which means I need a lot of money... Which means I have to beat a lot of bots on classic mode

But my old bot sucks....

And INSTANTLY remember why the Low Tiers suck...

Enemies with tactics that you cannot counter until you get to a higher tier.

Had a game with double annoying. One person with armor blocks WAY above the tier... and other which is the standard single block flying ship... sorry did I say double? I meant triple :P because there were two one block ships... but one of them sucked.

I've never experienced a game where one of the LARGEST draws of leveling up is that you stop getting noob stomped and tools for basic gameplay.

Seriously developers... keep the high tiers out of the low tiers.
