The pilot seat is invulnerable, the block it is connected to is not.

I am reminded when I died because I tried to kill someone by destroying their exposed cockpit...

This game is made to mess with me.

A bot is counted as "dead" when all functional parts are detached from the pilot seat. Armor does not count as a functional part.

Radar Jammers apparently do, though. I've had numerous times where I am sitting on the ground in the remains of the friendbot: The pilot seat, 3 armor blocks, and the radar jammer affixed to the bottom of the craft next to the flipper. Even one time where the enemy team drove directly past me in that state in favor of capturing the base instead.

This game is haaard. My T1 bot can never seem to get enough firepower on target and is never controllable. I'm thinking of spending all my monies for helium and jets and going blimp.

The game isn't hard it is all about finding exploits and if you aren't willing to do so then you aren't going to get very far.
Tips for babybot exploits then please?

Not really exploits, but some tips:

Light blocks are completely free. Spend all your remaining CPU fluffing out your tank with light block armour. Use top mounted guns, not front mounted guns. Don't put your gun in a location where the block it's connected to is directly hittable, taking out that block should mean your opponent has to go through several others first. SMGs work better with more guns, to a max of 6. Use no less than 5, no more than 7. You get a ton of extra rewards for winning+surviving, but no extra rewards for winning+dying, tying, or losing. If you're going to win, don't throw your life away.

When firing at fliers, tap your gun and then let the bloom reset, SMGs fired this way are reasonably accurate even at render distance. Damage in this game works by dealing the weapon's damage to a block. If that damage is higher than the block's armour, it is destroyed and the remaining damage is spread between all blocks connected to the now-destroyed block. You can abuse this armor system by using prism cubes to direct damage away from key components, as they only connect to blocks on four sides and do not transmit damage to blocks on the remaining two faces. You can see this in use in the screenshot of my bot posted above - the gun in the middle and the guns flanking behind it all use this so that damage can not be transmitted to the block the SMG is connected to.

That's happened to me before also. Functional blocks are pretty much anything but chassis style blocks.

yeah a good survival tip is to put a some thruster on the block under the seat and have an arm collegating this bloc to the rest of the bot. increase survival chances and victory bonus chances.

@greatorder: Yeah, I've met that issue too, and I think a number of other folk have too. over on the robo bugs subforum.

@octobomb: Rex's tip on light armour blocks is pretty good - use these as ablative armour layers while you stock up on RP and TP to get T2 SMGs. Also, if you need help, post pics of your bot and we'll (well I will) try and see what needs fixing.

and finally: one of these days I will actually remember to add LoSboccacc as a friend on robocraft :3

I still can't get my head around how to use prism chassis blocks to redirect damage.

Spoiler: here, do it like this (click to show/hide)

see how a hit on the side can only propagate on the side and not inward? damage spread to the connected blocks only, and the rows are not connected

Would damage go down as well?

no damage is the same (nomber of block removed stay the same)

but you control it to chew away your armor and not your seat

imagine a similar config only vertical and in front of your laser: now the first hit doesn't chop the laser away, but only the armor.

it is all about making the weapons and the seat to fall last.

ideally you should still be a menace down to 20%-15% health. if your bot is weaponless and has 50% health, that is all armor wasted.

-Armor-size scale-down
---More armor blocks, same space

That would make boss battles a pain to hit the boss in, though.

Also, core & framing blocks.
Core functions as circuitry, and needs to be connected to powered components.
Framing is needed for armor blocks, which must be within a certain distance of intact frame.
Contiguity is important for both of these.

That might push people away due to not wanting to have to deal with the difficulty of accomplishing that.
