The problem with SMGs is that a good while back they were the only gun you had, so they kinda had to be good at whatever.

But when they introduced other guns, they never really specialized or weakened the smg.
in fact they even powered it up when they changed the name by extending the max range a lot.

The SMG is good at most things but isn't great.

Plasma is better at medium/close range so long as the SMG doesn't close with the Plasma, Rail is better at long range.

I quite like where the SMG is at now, though. Didn't they make it such that you can't SMG snipe through fog any more?
Just booted it up, seems you get hits right up to the 100% opaque fog cutoff. Which means you still get hit 'through the fog', same as railguns.
What it looks like from the other side.

Thing is, if you're running a small robo, that fire is withering. Tap fires will tear you apart, and full auto spraynpray can get nasty lucky hits of its own. It's worse if you're not in the fog but only long-range.
Given the requirement to be absolutely still and steadily aiming, if you were to hold down that trigger as you run from cover you'd be able to force a railgunner back if they're not ready and waiting to belt you one. Without a pocket medic they're stuck behind cover as you close in.

Tap firing even lets you engage snipers which are 'in the fog', since you can see the railgunner beams (& gun-lights?) & aim for the source (& they don't move). Railgunners have to rely on the HUD damage alert & tracers to return fire.



As a railgunner, I hate'm, & for the same reasons everyone hated railguns a while back. :I

There was actually a glitch with SMG's that gave them 100% accuracy with tapfire, they fixed this.

I normally spin in circles as they start eating through my armor since it's rather thick. I pull back after I lose a gun or two.

Yeah, that was never a glitch, it was intended behavior to have first-shot accuracy.  The biggest problem with SMG is their cone of fire isn't large enough, and their damage falloff isn't steep enough.  They do nearly max damage even at max range, and the cone of fire in the first ~6 shots is still accurate enough that half the shots hit.  So there's no penalty to shotgunning at fliers, which should NEVER happen.

I personally think they just need to get rid of SMGs and replace them with clustered shotguns.

We have clustered shotguns, they're called plasma launchers :P

I got into T10 over the weekend too, with my dinky little red-armoured SMG hover. Now I just need to keep farming RP for T10 parts (except weapons, I've got full T10 SMGs). Half my T10 games are spent dying to fully black T10 beasts, the other half are eating through red/purple tanks :3

What armor you have now? I got t10 with mostly blue armor and it was more cost effective to pass by red armor first - a quarter price than black but with 80% stopping power

Rolling a small bot, so I was full purple & used some GC to buy t10 walkers.
Even with those, I wasn't even a hair's width into t10- the progress bar was even with the T9 ].
