Smg is hitscan, visual effect doesn't matter

It is done because high rof would case lag otherwise.

What's so stupid about lasers? They are lasers after all. At the distances we're fighting at, they're functionally hitscan.

Yeah, it's fine. The spread you get from firing multiple shots means that, despite being hitscan, unless you're really close you'll miss a lot. You can snipe with them pretty well at distance, though, if you wait for the targeting reticule to shrink back down after each shot. Doesn't do much damage, but it's a reliable way to take out a lot of flyers.

Eh, I don't know. My Plasma Frigate design has been really effective all the way up to T5, and I'm not noticing any problems with it now. A well aimed shot can still brutalize anyone in my Tier or under, and I've beat plenty of gunbeds in 1-vs-1 combat with it. I think it really just comes down to the fact that the SMGs are the most forgiving of the weapons. They're not great at anything other than close range chainsawing, but they're good at everything, which makes them easy to use and very versitile. Railguns and Plasma Mortars are both excellent at specific tasks, but suffer from recharge times, firing arcs, and the like. You have to be a better shot to do much with them, and when you miss you make yourself vulnerable.

Plasma is more forgiving than Railguns, since the recharge time is shorter. Railguns suffer massively from sniper syndrome. They're great at long ranges, but if anyone gets close you're probably toast unless your one volley takes them out.

I find plasma the good compromise - low enough recharge time, high alpha damage and good accuracy if you can account for the drop well enough. You can also speed up to get a larger carpet-bombing area.

Yup. On the flip side, a full hit does massive damage and you can do fire-and-forget with it as an artillery barrage. I've had a number of occasions where I've fired a volley off down a likely enemy route and damaged/destroyed someone I couldn't even see yet.

It's a higher skill weapon than lasers, certainly, but in my experience it about evens out in overall usefulness. Neither seems to be strictly better for me on the whole. Personally I enjoy the Plasma, but I can see why other people would have more fun with the lasers.

Hopefully with this week's patch they will get the buffnerf they need. Higher consistency means they can do a bit more damage without breaking the game.

Darn updates kicking us off servers. Was having a good game too!

Meanwhile, supposedly rails are more powerful- damage can't 'escape', or something like that.

Rails have been so much buffed that the game is a race to hide now.

Also plasma is now scary (seen hit removing 80k damage) but at least is fair: max damage happens only at max distance and people can dodge ot easily

Still plasma fliers are op against tanks, but at least now rails can swat them

It is now a game of who has more rails. After those have all finished shotting each other the team that has some left wins
