In my experience, I nearly always cover the repair costs with gains, if only by a little. It isn't really zero-sum, though it is close because they HAVE to make money somehow...

On the topic of cowardance, bring a coward isn't rewarding - tactically retreating and using your strengths is. For example, I've recently found that poptarting (jumping from cover, firing, getting back into cover while the mortar reloads) in my pseudoblimp is effective in certain situations due to me not losing blocks to hits. Charging in-yo-face with lasers is another tactic for that weapon class. It rewards people who pay good.

Obviously, everyone wants to progress, and in this respect people who do badly or mediocre could be dear with better...

The XP system mitigates that a bit. My main robot is limited more by my max CPU at this point than RP for new parts, so I'm still making progress if I can go in and kill a few people even if I do lose. And, of course, I just enjoy the combat itself. The game is a lot more fun if you don't stress about moving up the tiers all that quickly. It's not like my Tier 5 Robot is any more fun than my Tier 2 version was, it's just...got bigger numbers attached to it.

I guess you can go a little faster at higher tiers, and the electro plates have some interesting changes to the configurations as you go up in tiers, but there really isn't all that much change to the gameplay. The actual progress you make by changing tiers is surprisingly small.

Nono, I'm not concerned at all about tiers (Otherwise I would've left T2/3 long ago). I just rarely got enough RP to actually get parts I want, because they're expensive and I end up bored, and the current trend in this topic isn't exactly encouraging me to pick it up again.

It will be easier to hit flying vehicles at least.

Dang is it annoying to see them camp out in the sky raining death on you where the only way to hit them is to go right into their kill zone... and even then they can just fly away.

For some reason that made me realize, I think their entire marketing is power-gamers.  Those who are naturally really good at playing for no specific reason, and have money.  Instead of bots, less good players are used, lured in by the promise of infinite design and blocks, but really 90% of the players seem to exist so that 10% of the players can feel good for beating them, while paying for premium.

In other words, they probably don't want to 'fix' anything.  The people who win are the people who pay (after all, why would you pay for a service you're terrible at?) and the sharper the divide between win/lose then the more winners feel encouraged.

Which is why I kind of laugh at official screenshots of it because I just go "Yeah, like ANYONE would honestly try to make a buggy with its exposed wheels... And a jet plane? yeah right!"

You cannot be more wrong. My brother is quite succesful in t10 with exposed wheel as many others.
I have now exposed blades and my bot is a fast t10 interceptor
I face plenty of planes, weird flying lasery thingy and other stuff, including a small percentage of gunbeds

Yeah. I was going to say that airbots are often easier at lower levels because they move slower. But, really, air units are only a problem for Plasma Mortars anyway.


@Girlinhat: I think you're largely correct, except that it has more to do with people who want to be the best/play at the highest tiers. Spending money doesn't really do much other than let you advanced up the Tiers faster. Although...I suppose you can have a bit of it with powergamers playing at lower tiers with a bot that has a single super-powerful gun and mostly low tier stuff, but I haven't really noticed that being much of an issue.

I'll ignore any "Well at tier 10 it finally has the endurance to survive a few hits" comments and just go

How many of those do you see at tier 10?

I admit my style is I like to put machine guns on raised platforms (I like to play raised platform vehicles)...

Though to admit it is Tier 10 and I am definitely not close to that. (mostly I ended up spreading my tech too wide >_<)

I'm really glad both my bot & playstyle are still perfectly viable...

Only real problem I'm running into is I can just barely squeeze into the next highest tier- running out of space for the parts.

Darn servers throwing me into t8/9 matches as a t6 masquerading as a t7. Why you do this game?

I roll in t10 but can make up something for other tiers if there is enough request.

clans are coming shortly, will set up one for us, in the meanwhile, if you see me online I am always platooning or at least trying.

Of all the weapons, I think I like SMGs the best. Plasma is good earlier, but it doesn't scale up in damage fast enough and has very limited range. Rails also don't scale fast enough and tend to miss at very long ranges, even though a hit is often deadly. SMGs, on the other hand, have decent damage and a great fire rate, along with very low travel time (is it hitscan?) and good accuracy.

Unfortunately since the game really has a "everyone for themselves" mentality enforced by the gameplay.

Mortars are certainly the kings of the lower tiers mind you

Considering how many random changes there have been that improve the lasers (getting the same fullscreen range as the other weapons, faster fire rate, worst accuracy at range, slightly better accuracy at range, having a free frontmounted version now) I wouldn't be surprised if they turned out to be hitscan too.
