Yes and they still work in tiers where game is less competitive.

It was annoying as hell having a bot in t9-10 which just got oneshotted leaving the whole team to die.

This sistem gets rid beautifully of idlers and weed out things a bit in top level. I had since much balanced games, without having to lose because a t10 was idle or a bunch of elium cubes or a white mass of t10 lasers in the form of a giant ... Banana.

I am kind of waiting until the designs aren't... super similar (You seen one turtle tank you seen them all) and they let you use more then one kind of weapon.

Though I find it hilarious that a superior build I can do is to build a hover jet designed to fly upside down because motors mounted in such a way fire better (because they can actually shoot straight into vehicles).

To admit they might have fixed this all already. Last I heard they already added a 3rd type of weapon. Though I doubt they let you use more then 1 at a time (though personally this isn't for balance reasons given Mortars seem to be the weapon of choice compared to the lasers. Especially if you are a good shot)

Actually from what I've seen lasers dominate. Seems it gets easier and easier to make an aircraft as you get higher-tier components, so after ~t4 you start seeing flying barges with 8 wings & a covey of mortars (and they keep flying at 25% integrity).
So, fielding mortars later on is kinda risky for ground-based bots.

Lasers on the other hand can shoot in bursts for long range accuracy, and have good damage up-close.

Railguns were more fun at lower tiers. 20s cool down after all have been fired, so you're screwed if someone closes in and you've emptied your clip. In lower levels, you one-shot the rickety fliers all day. Higher levels, you put three slugs in them & it just fills their immortal flier hearts with righteous anti-railgun zeal.


But yes everything is still samey. Had great fun using a hovercraft to perch on the side of hills, but you could get outside the map with that so it's vulnerable to a nerf.

I'm only at the beginning of Tier 3 at this point, but it's all still fun. You get serious designs and silly designs and stuff is generally non-competitive. I can see how things might change at higher tiers, though.

More weapon variety would be nice, though, and the ability to mix and match.

So far my favorite personal design is a hovering ship design (shaped like a small battleship or cruiser). Surprisingly effective, if a bit unstable.

Semi-necro...
Electroplates added, can't say I've used them much (since I use a surprisingly maneuverable blimp with mortars) but they seem to be effective with railguns and mortars (if you have decent positioning skills), except it's not very good against my setup.

Behold the Mighty "Cliff-Fish"- what it looked like at t2, what it looked like at t5 (about the largest it got), and a fraps-limited 30 second playstyle video.
Would hide on the sides of cliffs while reloading or if I attracted too much attention, the weight was low & forward, and the jets gave plenty of keep-up power, plus wheels for more stable grounded movement (woo railguns). The jets in the tail can make the thing pirouette, and if it gets taken out I can usually right myself by activating the 4 large forward thrusters.
Other fun tricks: hide in the depressions atop the canyon cliffs, can only be seen by fliers directly overhead. Also: hovering up the sides of cliffs to escape the map & snipe with exploit-like impunity. Except for fliers.


On an aside, hovercraft movement seems to have gotten quite a bit more floaty- I was constantly spinning around when I went to check out those electroplates.

I still play this and I love it.

My only gripe is the match making at t10 sometimes put me in a team with few bots and some 'rainbow' bots against t10 endgame black mean machines :(

I do find it hilarious that Mortars are so unbalanced that they had to create armor SPECIFICALLY to counter them.

to be honest it was created against smg when smg was the thing.

plasma being op is mostly because planes abusing wings and thruster armor

That and people are getting better with Mortars AND there are some builds for what I like to call "straight shot Mortars".

I find Mortars to pretty much only be balanced by people's inexperience. (people miss a lot of... sure shots...)

Then again I was never a fan of "one weapon only"... which is odd because the way the game is balanced, splitting weapons up isn't an advantage.

hover are pretty strong against mortar.

after being smashed to little cubes one to many time by plasma bombers, I started hovering and while I am a little weaker against gunbeds, I can fly between mortar shots and those that fall below me hardly reach high enough to damage me.

Yep, hovertanks are hard to hit with airmortar - you need direct hits.

This is what I'm using:

I'm flying with a tier two flyer.
Rail guns are the bane of my existence. I'm not even sure how they one shot me, but they do.
