I've been getting into this game.

I tried making some beds but wasn't very impressed.  IMO, plasma hurts large, low-tier gunbeds a lot.  Spaced low-tier armor doesn't do anything against plasma, especially considering it's heavy and poorly maneuverable.  Today I made a gunship/hovertank that I'm fairly happy with, though.  My inspiration has been Hinds and Havocs.  Relatively heavily armored front with hover-blades as interior as I can get them, and an assful of laser.  I tried plasma 1's, but they suck and you have to aim well the first time, or you'll be shredded, armor or no.  I changed the armament to lasers and I couldn't be happier.  It seems like most people in the very low tiers build their hovercraft with little armor and few armaments, so no one expects a 6 laser hovercraft with a totally armored front.

... Robocraft doesn't like screenshots with prtsc.

Is there any way to anchor myself firmly?  I find that I slip and slide around when I land, which is really problematic with plasmas.  I really want to build some fighter-craft, because I've seen some and it seems like most satellites are completely defenseless.  I really can't figure out the control schemes and type of blocks I need though.   The controls seem very ill-suited to aircraft control.

I seriously thought about making a hovercraft with just some really powerful blades encased in an enormous sphere of white blocks.  It wouldn't serve much use, except to draw enemy fire and be hilarious.
IMO, it'd be really effective.  Well, maybe not with white-blocks, but a wrecking ball of armor would probably be effective against most teams.  There doesn't seem to be much tactical sophistication at my tier.  I expect plenty of people would shoot it until it died, while they were being flanked by your teammates.

Aircraft require thrusters and weight control. And usually helium as well, but theres been proof of helium-free flyers.

I built one of those plasma cannon fliers that flip themselves upside down. Its T2 with one T5 plasma cannon.

Its a blast to use, even if its difficult to control. Nothing like blowing people up in one hit.

Wow. I kind of liked this game, but I found it was really really really really rough around the edges. However, seeing updates like that tell me that the dev team is completely aware of how fucked up the game's meta currently is and are willing to go the extra mile to fix it.

Plus its just a badass update in general so yusss.

There's balance issues relating to vision range.  Mainly, rails have infinite range and infinite accuracy, but vision range is arbitrarily limited to how high in the air you are and what angle you're looking at - if you're on the ground, you can view the whole sky, but if you're in the air, you can look directly downwards, but NOT look to the horizon.  The edges of the screen are the most clear, but the center is foggy, and the more directly downwards you look the clearer the entire view.

The practical results of this?  Rail tanks can do well, while rail fliers are blind, and get shot by rail tanks.  But some people seem to ignore this (maybe hacking, hard to tell) and are able to use their rail fliers from extreme distance and peg your tank from the other side of the map.

uhm, on a second thought aimbotting is still rampant. guy came with laser and surgically stripped all weapons from 4 different robots in less than 3 seconds on full auto.

Well I'm not surprised, but I still have not seen any aimbotters, LoS. Someguy with a railgun managed to miss my Angry Wedge entirely. Angry Wedge is not small tank and was still fully intact. (it is, unsurprisingly, a nearly-600 cpu hunk of wedge-shaped tank full of lasers, for when I get nowhere with a flier)

Also girlinhat, if its not hacking, they might be actually getting use out of radar recievers. Dunno if the signal from those can chain between tanks or not.

They can't chain, and it's not a radar thing.  Radar only shows things on minimap, it doesn't actually change how far you can see.
