I've seriously considered making a gun blimp.  As much high-tier helium as I can force on, and then just PILES of armor, with a few guns.
Sadly not really doable. CPU cost of helium is too high.

'Cause you know, helium is totally powered by CPU.

I wonder how long until this game has an outright Cannon that must be kept in cannon position.

Anyhow how effective is the melee weapons?

No, because: One pilot seat, One White Block, One Mag Rail - faff about the map at supersonic speeds!
Well, you'd need a blade, too, and it really depends on reload speeds. If you get one shot per two seconds with one gun, and 8 guns only reduces it to 1 per 1.5 secs, well, it's not quite as game breaking as the recoil seats of old.

T8 Tesla deals more damage than a T10 Rail, and a T10 rail is currently the strongest attack in the game.  Big problem is getting close enough.  You end up ramming a lot, but ramming enemies becomes surprisingly difficult.  They're also one-use (three use for T10) and a medic repairs them, and they have zero armor - any damage destroys them.

My take?  Fun for some fun, but not actually usable as a credible weapon.

Tank treads are kinda slow, so probably won't be replacing wheels completely.

Wheels are worse at turning and have less traction now, though. It's rather annoying when your vehicle decides it wants to turn on it's own. The hero bonus is great though, and you don't even need to stay and spectate.

edit: Is it just me or are T5 electroplates the worst design ever? I seriously am almost unable to place them anywhere.

They're unwieldy, but if you get the hang of them they make for solid frontal armour. In fact they're the first electroplate tier I could figure out how to use to make frontal armour.

Treads seem to be great at slopes. Haven't tried the more vertical slopes yet though.

They're... okay. I can take a jet-wheel buggy up almost every slope I can get a tank up.

Anyway, meet Gills.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Fairly sturdy, even when he isn't half cheating by being one tier lower then he should be, he also reminds me vaguely of a fish, even though he looks nothing like one.

He's there when I want to have a fun and entertainment rather then fighting my way up the tiers.

Isn't that really front-heavy and prone to understeer?

I made one, but it looked a bit too much like a penis.

No such thing.

So I've begun construction of a two tread "bike" Crawler tank. Basically its two treads, one in front of the other, at the center of a huge rectangular box, slightly offset from the center on opposite sides so it can turn. Right now its just a box of free lightweight cubes.

Eventually I planned to add layers and layers of ablative triforce armor sheets, however it's already in tier two just from the two T3 treads and free lightweight cubes, and armoring it portends to be horrendously expensive in both cash and CPU, so I don't know if I could even build it, it could just be too big.

It is literally so huge that I could hide enough guns inside the inner shell to have them be a nasty surprise to anyone who managed to carve their way all the way through to the inside. Of course, I'd have to construct the inner skeleton of a tougher block than the current light to have it not evaporate instantly to a stiff breeze.

That's cute, really.  You wanna talk about BIG construction?  Let's talk about encasing legs in armor.  My older, still functional tank-walker was rebuilt from the Overwolf, and is 4 legs, the front two being totally surrounded by red wolf armor.  I've also got 4x T3 + 2x T7 treads encased in blue armor, then THAT encased in white armor.  It needs some work, the shape is decent but really bad for gun placement.

Well when I said sheets of triforce armor I mean encasing the whole thing in like 7+ layers of armor blocks interspersed with solid rods here and there to stick plasma cannons on. Like I want this thing to just plough through entire enemy teams laughing like a maniac and wildly firing while sitting on their base threatening cap if they try to run. (And yes, I know this is an unrealistic dream dammit but I'm gonna make the closest thing I can). My biggest concern is them just picking all my guns off then ignoring me.

So yeah, big. Although right now it's just a long box roughly the size of a regular battle-table. For now I'll probably just develop it as a slightly unusual plasma tank because being only tier 3 I really don't have the stuff to build the way I want

Tesla blades are hilarious. They're impractical, but when used to finish off people who don't anticipate it coming.. :D

Maybe, I find that people still have to make their way through 3 layers of armor, and that's only if they shoot the same spot, I actually don't know why it takes so long for people to shoot their way through it.

You'd think he steers slow but he doesn't, probably because I forgot how wheels were supposed to work and place steering wheels at the front and back.

If there's two weaknesses he has, it's that the guns tend to be fragile and there's almost no armor at the back.

I find no one ever manages to shoot it there though, since I've decided to move into tier 3 proper, I'll probably fix that up.

Large sections of layered armor are hard to get through because of how damage works in the game. Basically every time a shot destroys a block, the remaining damage is distributed to random adjoining blocks. So if you have a large slab of interconnected armor it'll distribute the damage more widely. Hence why big blocky tanks are still generally more durable than smaller vehicles constructed of much better armor

Picked this up because why not now that they have a Linux version. I used to play SPG(Artillery) back in World of Tanks, are there any simmilar weapon tree here? Disruptor? Plasma Launcher?

I like that Gills design, it's like what I have now, but actually well thought-out(also tier 2 bling), maybe I'll borrow some inspiration to improve my toaster  :P

Plasma is the closest thing to SPG.  It fires much more directly, less arc, and generally is 'better' at direct fire.  The longer it flies, the bigger the AOE, but the damage seems constant, so there's no real penalty for running up on someone.

Railguns are also incredible snipers.  Plasma is a wide-spread volley of fire, you just throw damage and see what sticks.  Rails are proper snipers, no travel time and 100% aim (of reticule is stable) with very high damage.  Rails are incredible in anti-air roles, which is something many teams sorely lack.  But like SPG, rails will suffer from long reload times, their main downfall...

but actually well thought-out

Pssh, he's not well thought out, I just wanted a SMG tank which was a lower tier then my hovertank so I could have fun, so I made my brick, remembered seeing somewhere on this thread that the scales/Prism blocks caused less damage to spread across tanks because they aren't as connected as regular blocks so I dumped those on as well, and just added things from there.

Anyway, Gills MK3 which is still pretty much the same.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I didn't like the fact that I had to make him larger for an easier time placing weapons (three blocks longer and 4 blocks wider to be precise.) until I found out how much of a juggernaut he could be, immune to instakills and shrugging off plasma and rail shots, pretty much unstoppable if he's got a medic healing him along the way.

As you might be able to see, I dealt with the lack of rear armor, he has a new problem though, other SMG tanks can pick through his armor pretty fast, and the guns are still pretty fast to get shot off.

Once I have the luxury of CPU I'll start making my way back to the original design.
