I wish you could reuse your blocks on all your bots, so that you don't need to tear down one of your bot if you want to try something new.

They do seem to be planning to add more and more classes. (http://steamcommunity.com/games/301520/announcements/detail/172588988971609333)
And you can have three vehicles, so you get to choose three classes to play as.

S'not really the point. I'd like to be able to do things like build a tank with a single overtiered rail and a battery of at-tier SMGs to use for close defence/AA, for example.

why would you want an 'I win' tank?

do you see spy or scout in team fortress complaining they can't have a minigun?

I do agree that weapons need a little more flexibility (proximity fuse after charging a plasma shot, i.e.) but at some point you can't counter it all in one build.

also, if you need a rail and then some smg for AA, you're doing it wrong - overtiered rail already is an instant kill for any poor flier that might happen to pass by

Because it leads to greater variance in what you encounter. As it stands it's pretty simple rock-paper-scissors; the different movement forms add depth, but it still gets pretty same-y after a while.

Also, TF2 is less than ideal as a comparison. Think something like TENNO SKOOOOOOOOM Planetside 2, where you don't know instantly what a given enemy is using and thus have to play thoughtfully rather than just pulling out the standard procedure over and over again. It's not like this is based on historical vehicles like WoT or WT, so they aren't bound to specific restrictions by anything but choice. As it stands, there's a rote response to every type of threat in the game because each of them does one specific thing well and everything else not at all.

Incidentally, you're missing the point with the rail. Or have you never had one of those situations where you burn your last shot right before an unspotted enemy pops into CQC range from around a corner/over a ridge and your team is utterly retarded with no map awareness even though they're literally two meters away and should see the guy as easily as you are? It's a fair tradeoff -- you gain a bit of secondary fire (though much less than anyone with a pure SMG vehicle would have) in exchange for maybe having a second rail. It's a very basic scale of specialized power vs. generalized versatility, and it's hardly unheard of.

I see your point, but I don't know if it's a good idea, because then you could too easily mitigate the weaknesses of your choice of weapon. Although, I find plasmas are still the best all around weapon; still quite good at range, decent reload rate, work well in close, too, only problem is they're almost useless vs flyers. But I play WT, so I can lead them fairly well. My favourite bit about plasmas now is that all the walkers camped on hills think they're hidden, and then I blow them up in one shot.

Yeah, plasmas are actually quite good vs. fliers provided you can lead targets, given how often people fly in predictable paths + the relatively fragile nature of aircraft.

As far as I can tell, there hasn't been a definite response from the devs re: weapon limitations.
[sarcasm]Apparently there aren't enough threads on the robo forums asking for this limitation to be lifted. [/sarcasm.]

While I think it would be rather cool to implement multiple weapons (then my hammerhead gunship will actually get its point defence SMGs, and I could try making an AC-130 gunship just for kicks), most of the prevailing argument against multiple weapon bots is "lol RIP teamwork" and "gg everyone will pack a single rail for AA defence".

I can see how multiple weapon types would improve overall combat ability - but not in a good way.  It's been covered before, but it's a basic argument of "You're not supposed to be invincible."

Eh, I can sort of buy that, but by the same token anyone who tries to be a JOAT is more likely to become a bard and be mediocre at everything. Again, it's a decision between "Do I want to be really good in situation X, or do I want to sorta-kinda be able to deal with X, Y, and Z?"

Heck, take Aurora as an example: What's more effective at long range bombardment, a dedicated missile ship, or an all-rounder with some missile tubes? Is that same all-rounder as good at AM defense as a dedicated PD ship? As good at basing fighters as a dedicated carrier? As good at close-range brawling as a heavily armored E/KW ship? Obviously not, but it can be good enough at two things to be worthwhile in some situations.

It's the same here -- a dedicated rail walker would always (barring total lack of player skill or extreme difference in gear/CPU) beat out a JOAT walker in a duel. A dedicated medic would out-heal a medic/SMG hover. &c. and so on. But the mixed-class vehicles could fill other roles in a pinch -- not as good as a specialist, but enough to plug a hole. I don't buy that as being "invincible" for one second (though I'd change my mind if they ever decided to allow nano-disruptors to self-heal, heh).

A big problem would be that everyone would pack a few healers, which would turn the game REALLY weird...

Well, if they ever implement multiple weapon platforms, I reckon one of the issues they'll have to look into reworking is plasma launcher mechanics.

The way plasma launchers work atm, when a cluster of 6 shots hits a single bot, only 1 of the 6 shots actually deals damage. Multiple plasma launchers increase reload time and plasma AoE coverage. On a multiple weapon bot, all you need is a single plasma launcher to get maximum benefit (alpha damage + shortest possible reload time).

Unless they make it so only the number of plasmas you have actually give the benefit, not total number of guns.

And then make you swithc between gun types the same way you do in an FPS.

There's no doubt about the gun type switching bit, I'd think.

I'm not sure you understand the part about current plasma launcher mechanics though. I should clarify: using the current mechanics, a bot with 1 plasma launcher deals the same damage to a single enemy as a bot with 6 plasma launchers, if the 6 shots all hit the enemy in roughly the same area. The bot with 1 plasma launcher also has a shorter reload time compared to the bot with 6 plasma launchers, effectively increasing its DPM (assuming both bots use same tier plasma launchers). So all you'd need is 1 plasma launcher to get the full benefit of plasma launchers, and on a multiple weapon bot you'd be able to stack other weapons alongside for added damage output.

I discovered that I have 100GC; I guess new players start with a bit?

So I decided I'd spend the GC on some ŰberTech.  Unfortunately, that means that I have to choose a direction to spend it in, which requires knowledge that I don't have.

What are the pros and cons of walker legs?  Is having multiple rail guns possible/good?  How does plasma work?  Electroplates?

I guess I could just google that, but I prefer Bay12ers' opinions.  Stuff on the Internet tend to be kiddie scrub rage opinions in my experience.

You are very unlikely to be able to buy anything with initial GC that means much, let alone T7 walker legs.

One quirk about uber TP is you must either use all tiered tp or uber tp to purchase something, no mixing.
