Conquest, chapter 12, classic hard mode, completed with no deaths... That was nervewracking, that took me like 6-7 tries, and on my successful attempt I was too afraid to overcommit to grab the treasure chests, I didn't want to slip up and ruin a good run just for greed. I just saw the chance to win, and I took it... I hope that doesn't bite me in the ass later!

What probably held me back there was that I simply didn't understand the gimmick of that stage. So for those of you wanting a piece of advice: MEDICINE POTS ARE GODLIKE DON'T IGNORE THEM LIKE I DID FOR MY FIRST 5 ATTEMPTS!

I'm currently stuck on Conquest chapter 8, and I have a question:

That second maid, Flora or whatever her name is...is it possible to recruit her if you leave her alone? She doesn't move and her freezing staff only has a couple of uses, so the last time I attempted the mission I simply avoided her knife range and concentrated on reaching as many houses as possible before the enemy did (I can only ever manage three). After all, the victory condition is to defeat the boss, not to rout the foe, so her death doesn't seem to be required in any way.

This confused me, because having characters with both names and portraits is the Fire Emblem clue "Hey, MAYBE JUST MAYBE you can recruit this person if you try really hard." Turns out that that's not the case at all, not even if you have her sister Felicia with you (which you'd start with if you have a male protagonist). She will join you eventually, but only in the REVELATIONS path, and apparently her joining you is tied to building up a level 3 turret or something in your Castle. Gotta wait for March 10th if you want that Maid Waifu.

I'm honestly just worried about WHAT ELSE might be hidden behind arbitrary, unclear conditions.

Jakob or Felicia is your answer, with both having naturally high RES and a weapon that can lower MAG, s/he can soften him up really good and let another character score the finish.

Your Butler/Maid is basically your Jagen, and s/he's a prepromote that is tremendously useful, but ultimately s/he's going be to limited by the fact that s/he can't level past 20. One thing Conquest as taught me though is: don't be afraid to use your prepromotes, in the earlier games you could ignore them without retribution, but here, the game's balance is specifically tailored around you having those strong units helping you out.

Of course, how didn't I think of that? The game specifically pointed out Felicia's considerable RES early on. :v

And she's my Jeigan? o_o This game is definitely playing with the formula, I'll give it that. I didn't even realize she was a prepromote until now.

Speaking of Jeigans, I was not expecting Gunter's sudden death in chapter... uh, 3? Maybe we should call him an Orson?

I'm pretty sure they know how perfectionist it is, thats why they made casual mode. Phoenix sounds like its for people who cannot deal with losing anybody at all (or bad strategy game players), Casual is for people who don't want to bother reloading to save people but don't want to lose people, and classic is for people too stubborn to pick the previous option, hardcore/ironman fans, people who do not like mythological birds or casuals, fans of lunatic difficulty, and people who like to complain on the internet.

Classic is for people who like to complain on the internet? Weird, most of the difficulty complaints I've seen are trolls on GameFAQs boards whining about how casual is objectively superior to Classic. :v

Well, huh. I'd been assuming things hadn't changed much from what I'd seen of gamefaqs during awakening, scratch the last one then.
