AWESOME. Last question... what do I look like? Cos apparently I'm meant to look like a ghost tadpole or something but that can't work.

Like a ghost mindflayer, but smaller.

Identify spells save lives, people! The next person to touch an unidentified object gets no help getting out of the sticky situation they got themselves into.

How familiar are you with pen and paper RPGs and d20 system (games where the most important dice has 20 sides) games?

Um. I've never done a Pen and Paper RPG, but I have some knowledge of simple d20.

Dejavu, I will PM you pdfs of the books. One at a time, until you think you're ready for the next one/request some, and so on. There are supplementals, but really, I should just ask you.

What type of character do you want to play?

Let's get you a character sheet. We have two options:

A. Print one out. This is one of the more detailed ones. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/DnD_charactersheet.zip
B. Make an account on Myth Weavers, which is a website that helps you create digitial character sheets for lots of Pen and Paper games. I would recommend doing it anyway, so Remuthra can make sure that you aren't fudging your numbers too much. http://www.myth-weavers.com/

If you could be a bit more descriptive...mobile artillery can refer to any number of things. What are the awesome things you imagine your character doing?

Yeah, this was originally a dedicated server with no need for all those fancy things, I'm still finding parts I need to add.
Firing giant cannons at comically small enemies, like a rabbit.

There are some other options:
http://www.d20srd.org/ has most of the base classes.
www.dandwiki.com has both base classes and some of the more obscure ones.
Also, Wizards of the Coast, or WOTC, often times has the most important information on their website.
