I know the answer must be somewhere, I used to know how. But now I've forgotten and my googlefoo isn't helping. I know that loose items are scattered. I thought I remember putting items in a coffer but maybe not. Can someone please tell me how to make a room for an adventurer to get my candy items? Last time I remember pulling a lever for a bridge and going in to get it.

1: Easy mode. Use DFHack to mark the fortress as a lair (prevents scatering)

2: Hard mode(If you dislike utilities). Make a completely closed room, that can only be opened with a Cave inn. Items inside a closed room don't
scatter.
The easiest way to do this: Build a close room, with only constructed parts(No natural walls), Supported only by a single support connected to a lever. When the lever is pulled, the whole room will fall and deconstruct, liberating the items inside.

Thank you Broken, but I've done this without the need for supports before.. I just pulled the lever to drop the bridge to enter, and I'm pretty sure my Adventurer could just loot the coffer I had placed there before.

Lazy way: just forbid the items after smithing so they stay in the forge. Items contained in a building don't scatter.
