an odd problem
« on: December 27, 2013, 01:58:30 pm »

so, i read this youtube comment, and it said warning, not to click on any links until google fixes it or a screamer will pop up, sometimes inducing epilepsy, and soon lead to child porn and viruses and other illegal or dumb/gross crap.
Is this even real? I have a bit of epilepsy, too creeped out and terrified to try it out myself.
PS: I was about to click on a comment link before I saw this!

Any link can theoretically lead to anything if they've disguised the destination through a url shortener or something. Only click on a link if you trust the source.

The link was, yes, supposed to be a good source- a game on stickpage, which I go to every time im REALLY bored. i didn't highlight over it but that was when, in bright friendly letters... (otherwise known as black print...)

EDIT: Stickpage doesnt have URL shorteners.

  WARNING.
A recently flowing screamer pic and sound blah blah that may induce heart attacks or epilepsy in those people, blah blah, tab may say GO TO SLEEP, then lead to the viruses and child porn, or other effed up crap, and so on. it said it may have a little girl, and it could get loud and innapropriate as it screams. also some replies said, "Thanks, man. I always knew that some of the internet is fucked up, im already knee deep in crap with my computer with spam and viruses."

It exists, but it doesn't link to child porn or viruses. It's just seizure inducing flashes with screams amplified to a point where they can destroy cheap headphones. Just don't follow any shortened links.

I'd suggest not ever clicking links in youtube comments.

Please don't insult decent, upstanding hives of scum and villainy with such a comparison, Leo. Youtube comments are a particular class of filth all their own.

im thinking of tricking my friend by making him click on a comment link with headphones on at full blast.  :D

1: Ask him to put on headphones.
2: Tell him to navigate to a website to watch a video.
3: Surreptitiously unplug his headphones and plug them into your device. Plug something else into his device.
4: Tell him to start the video, but manipulate the volume on your device and play a completely different video.
5: He will hear the very loud and/or irritating noises and try to turn down his machine's volume - even mute it. This will have no effect.
6: He will reach to unplug his headphones. This will not affect his sound woes. You then unplug his headphones from your device.
7: He will take off the headphones and attempt to investigate, but will not get any further information.
8: Tell him you can fix the problem, only $10k up front.

I've experienced these screamers before. The first time was actually scary since it was like one in the morning, and I threw my headphones at my monitor and yelled by reflex, before calming down after a few moments and closing the webpage.

The second time I guess I was drowsy or something and my headphones were pretty low volume, so the screamer popped up and I was not affected at all, so I just closed it and never clicked YT links again.

And that's why allowing people to post links on YouTube was a Bad Idea™.

Yeah I'm not happy with most of the changes to youtube lately. It's like we can't have something nice without someone shitting all over it.
