Representative Taricus

Between the implied friendliness of the Kiadians from the first contact team, the sheer expense the conqueror's plan requires and the issue of us having a habitable world far closer to us than the Kiadian's world means I have to denounce representative's Iituem and Creamcorn's plan. Not only will their plan require massive expendatures into military funding that we cannot afford, a far longer distance from our seat of government, and a far closer world that has already been colonised, which will take far less time to reach for anyone wishing to emigrate the homeworld.

At this time, it is far more practical to assimilate them rather than to conquer and exterminate. A more pressing concern, which representative's Iituem and Creamcorn my have a valid idea in dealing with would be the existance of this other, starfaring empire that we have sent our ambassador to. It would be prudent to start preparing for whatever action may be needed to eliminate that threat, whether it be by dove or hawk.

Representative Ghazkull, Chairman of the Terran Solar Trading Company.

Fellow Terrans, this discovery of new Alien Lifeforms might at first seem threatening and indeed i would support the Suggestions of Representatives Iituem and Creamcorn to deal witht his new Threat. HOWEVER, mindless murder as suggested is not the way. Let me suggest a proposition which not only is economically preferable but also more humane.

Let us conquer those Kiadans as they call themselves but not exterminate them. That is a waste of rescources. Instead let us use all that free manpower a subjugated Kiadan People would provide.
As the Representative of the Terran Solar Trading Company i can assure you that we would achieve an incrase of Colonial Income through Slavework of up to 50%. Not only would we reimburse our costs of conquering Kiadan no, we would also reap massive profits which we would not gain from any fres established human colony, not to mention the cost of removing the Kiadan vermin.
Fellow Senators, Representatives and esteemed Chancellor.

Grant the Governorship of Kiadan to teh Terran Solar Trading Company and we will ensure that the Kiadan Population is not only kept in line but will also work for the Good of the People of Terra.
I rest my case.

*Update 1: up, up and away! (nach oben, nach oben und weg...)
Suggestion:  Conquer and Enslave the Kiadan Population grant Governorship to the TSTC (Ghazkull)
Poster Name: Ghazkull (RP Name: Chairman Lynard Church)
Planet: Kiada(n)

((also nach oben, nach oben und weg, doesn't really work as up, up and away. Correct translation of that Saying/Quote would be Auf, auf und Davon!

Nice rule following! Your suggestion now carries considerably more weight!

Also: google translate why do you fail me!? But we'll keep the hilariously bad german! (what did that actually say?)

The awkwardness makes it better!

Anyways, there'll be another update today/tonight guys. I'll try and kick thing in to overdrive see we can at least get another 2 colonies. Once we do I'll start doing some basic senate stuff, and once we get at least 5 colonies I'll really start pushing major decisions on to them.

On that note, our glorious reps have done great jobs on the suggestions, so I think I'll be opening the floor to them more than I planned, especially in these early stages!

FAKEEDIT: It ok! and you got the job. Thanks though, for filling it out!

Representative Henry Osterburgh of the advicory board of science and ethics

What is this I hear about war? About enslaving a peaceful people? Have history taught you fools nothing? Is it not evident that unprovoked violence and enslavement brings nothing but ruin to everyone involved? We are not base animals that attack anything different on sight, we are a sentient species and should act that way. I am ashamed to think that we as a species are still mired in racism and scaremongering.

The Kadians are by no means warriors, they are as peaceful as can be and friendly too! If we attack them we set a poor precedence. Need I remind you all that we have already discovered several alien artifact and two sentient species in a very short time-span? There is bound to be other civilizations out there. Civilizations far greater and more advanced than we are. If we act violently towards those weaker than us then what prevent those far greater than us from attacking us? A violent act will simply prove to them that we must be removed as the violent nuisance that we would be.

Whats more is that the Kadians are  great thinkers, free minds that would prove the greatest boon to our civilization as equals rather than base slaves. It would be a foolish and grave waste to force them to be servants.

And this other species, the unknown space-faring one? Are people seriously suggesting we blindly attack an alien species with unknown capabilities? You all know how effortlessly that space-monster destroyed the recently discovered station, how defenseless we where. We might end up in the same situation here, a lone bee stinging a bear that will simply squash us for the trouble. Attacking with no reason and knowledge is suicide.

I say we try to establish diplomatic relations. Sure, build up our fleet so we can defend our self, but let it not be said that we where the one to attack first. Simple mathematics says tit-for-tat works best, let us be peaceful when can and violent when are forced too.

And overpopulation? Ha! There is so many stars out there in our galaxy alone that if there is even a few planets around each every man, woman and child could get a planet of their own. No need to take it from others when there is plenty free for the taking for anyone who get there first.

Updaten #1! nach oben, nach oben und weg!

Suggestion:  Assimilate the Kadians, promote their growth and build so as best to take advantage of their skills. Try to establish peaceful relation with other civ, but make sure we are not defenseless should they attack.

Unity and Enlightenment for everyone!

Poster name: hostergaard. RP name: Henry Osterburgh
Planet: Kiadia.
Additional request: Maybe build some research stations and shipyards here to take advantage of the kadians abilities.

I will ensure the Kadians integration will be as smooth and peacfull as possible. I will make sure that they will be treated equally and afforded the rights that all sentient should have.

That being said I promise that will take the fullest advantage of the kadians skills in science and engineering for the benefit of our fledgling interstellar civilization.

Remember, human or kadian, we are all thinking beings in a grand universe. No more, no less.

Do we ant to be known as ruthless conquerors and tyrants, or as scientist and men of peace? The Kadians are our brothers, we have to integrate them peacefully. We have so much to learn together.

Senator Isdar Dendu

As the newly appointed senator for the planet of Esmosuir, I would like to say that I will work in the interests of the peoples of Esmosuir but also in the greater interest of our republic as a whole.

Now, on the issue of this encounter with another intelligent specie as ours. I think we should act with caution at first before we open our arms to them, an agreement of trade between our two empires will benefit us both. However, I think that is as far as our diplomatic interaction should go at this moment.

We might also wish to redirect any military fleets we have to any colonized or colonizable planet close to them, to ensure the protection of our citizens and the interests of the republic.

Suggestion: Trade agreement with the Kiadians and station any military fleets near any colonized or colonizable planet near them.

Representative Sir Lawrence Binghley-Sprickfellow

The right-honourable Representatives Broken, Hostergaard, and Taricus have the right of it. I wish to add my voice and those of my unbirthed clone constituents to their words. Add this lone planet to the Republic gladly, but it must be a peaceful mission. The Kaidan are clearly distant cousins of our species. Of course, had we discovered them to be space-faring, I would propose a more protective response: someone must answer for the visitations and abductions of the 20th Century. Let us not be like those abductors of our past, let us live amongst our cousins publicly and freely.

There is of course a possibility - however unlikely - of an armed conflict with the Kaidan. To this end I propose the construction of a military transport along with the colony vessel to transport a division of troops to the world, for the protection of the human Enclave. Furthermore, at least one Gunboat Class ship should be constructed for protection of our vital assets.

Furthermore, I would like to congratulate the esteemed Senator Isadar Denu on receiving their historic new posting on the first colony world of our Republic! However, the esteemed Senator must have been failed by his staff most grievously, as he seems to be mistaken in the capabilities of our Kaidan Cousins. Perhaps the esteemed Senator was referring to the as-yet-contacted alien scout?

Updaten #1! nach oben, nach oben und weg!

Suggestion: Bring the Kaidan natives into the empire, send a gunboat and some troops with the colony ship to keep an eye on the grass-skirt wearing natives.

Poster Name: (Iituem (RP Name: "Representative Roberts"))
Desired Planet: Kiadia

Support Proposal:  Chairman Church

Research and Spending Proposal: Focus on military improvements, build up a war fleet.

Yeah, I posted before I was aware that you needed to do this.  Apologies.  Now that I'm actually a registered Representative rather than a lunatic shouting in the commons...

Representative Roberts

While I have little love for half measures, Representative Taricus' concerns regarding our current military capacity raise an important issue.  We currently lack any sort of war fleet, and our capacity for interstellar combat is woefully inadequate.  As Senator Osterburgh points out, we have no idea what the enemy is capable of.  With this in mind, I must agree to the half-measure of conquering Kiadia, as per Chairman Church's suggestion.  I acknowledge Sir Binghley-Sprickfellow's argument as a bare minimum.

What is essential is that this deficiency be corrected immediately.  As a House, we must press for the immediate development of new ships and armaments capable of space combat.  We stand defenceless in the face of a dangerous universe, and yet we feel compelled to explore willy-nilly.  How many lives could have been lost at the hands of that space creature?  And now we face a first contact situation with a race already able to invade our home system at will?

I urge and propose that the Senate approves military research and spending as a priority for the sake of our foreign policy.

Update #2
Anagram Time: Lad Drowns Tits!

Several suggestions from the House of Representatives have been adopted by President Corbis as Policy:

Research has been geared toward military application (as well as increased colonization capabilities)
I'm going straight for the ability to make carriers, which will give us a lot more early-game attack power and a capital ship to base our fleets around.

A bill penned primarily by Representatives Binghley-Sprickfellow, Broken, Hostergaard, and Taricus requiring Kiadia to be colonized and the Kiadians to be brought in to the republic has been accepted following several resolutions and events
read the update to see why this has happened.

The Terran Navy has been significantly expanded with the mandated creation of the 1st and 2nd Republican guard fleets, which now contain about 2/3 of our naval power.
The other 1/3 is mostly frigates and escorts given cruises, which in our terms means they are independent and will spend most of their time escorting unarmed ships and raiding nearby enemies when we are at war. They are effectively privateers recruited from our own navy.

Current ship count at the end of this update: 35 military vessels. (Up from a former 9 vessels)

END OF UPDATE REPORT:

colonies.

galactic map. havent made contact with red guys. yellow highlighted systems have been scouted.

We have two new colonies.

There are pirates.

Our neighbors are largely peaceful.

Since the senate is still small the House of Representatives still has the floor.

Directives:

Increase military size? (its been rebuilt since the pirate thing, but its still small in comparison to some other empires)

change research?

foreign policy stuff?

Other Stuff:

Kiadia has chosen Representative Sir Lawrence Binghley-Sprickfellow (Lorgath) as it's senator. (Had the population been enslaved representation would have fallen to the TSTC (sorry fellas but that pirate pretty much ruined your evil machinations, rules are rules you know: you can't just go around enslaving people after you free them from oppression))

Special District "Prukupea" requires a senator. Applications are open. Iituem gets it!

Representative Roberts

Update #2
Applying to Govern: Prukupea
Proposal: Continue to increase military spending.
Proposal: Remain on current research directives.
Proposal: Aggressive extermination of pirates.

I heartily applaud the actions President Corbin has taken in these hard times.  Some might argue that our peaceful first contacts claim that we should let our guards down but after the near loss of three fleets, saved only by our brave young Admiral and the President's dogged determination to develop our military, it has become abundantly clear that not only are there hostile races in this Galaxy but that they completely outclass us.

A single ship of pirates laid low two fleets and nearly brought us to our knees!  A single ship!  We have met the enemy and are humbled and afraid.  No doubt some will claim that since we can drive one off, we are safe.  I say poppycock to that!  We must drive for further naval spending until we can stand secure in the Galaxy!  More ships, better equipment and a stronger, larger army is the only way to secure ourselves against destruction.

And when our navy is grown again?  We should start by putting paid to pirates.
