If this isn't completely serious then why can't the lives thing just be our souls refusing to leave and instead it just hauls the body back up and continues fighting?

That was my second option for explaining the whole 3 Lives thing. That would normally work, but what happens when you change classes? Does your body reanimate and suddenly you pull a whole different set of weapons out of your ass?

Well a true warrior can do it! Why do you think you need an extra round respawning when you switch classes.

Well a true warrior can do it! Why do you think you need an extra round respawning when you switch classes.
At least for this scenario I view it as being sent back down to carry on your duty by the gods. Different weapons and skills are simply their blessings, that you might fight the harder.

I'd like to suggest Leader classes, where you command a small group of less elite soldiers rather than being a badass elite soldier yourself. I think it would make sense in things where the Last Stand involves basic soldiers or people really meant to work together(like Legionnaries). You/your group could still die, and you might respawn by gathering up some of the survivors into a cohesive force. Size and quality may vary. The soldiers under your command might be considered inventory, you could rescue prisoners/find other pockets of resistance to replenish or add to your current men(although at a certqin point, the size becomes unfeasible, so they go off to fight on their own at best efficiency).

Plus, it means you can have the background common soldiers make sense, since I doubt every Last Stand consists of exactly 30 soldiers, only up to 10 of which are fighting at any given time...

Something like this would change the whole game however. Plus, what about for non-conventional forces, such as the Bank Robbers? They don't function on a static hierarchical command system.

They wouldn't have Leader classes. They would be specific to each scenario, just like you can't be a machine-gunner among Legionnaries. They would also tend to make sense for older battles, since battles in modern times are between squads about this size.

I was going to have some Support-Based Classes instead that provide bonuses to other soldiers by making tactics and boosting morale and such.

For our first Scenario, the voters have decided that it shall be Necdum Spiritum Romanus!

With that, the game will start sometime tomorrow. I'll work on the different Classes. The last couple open spots are still available until then.

Classes:


Legionary - A professional Roman soldier that makes up the formidable Legions that swept through lands and conquering many peoples. Now, the Legionaries that are left form the last solid wall of defense against the Barbarian invaders.
Disciplined Veteran (Passive) - Having fought many battles and skirmishes, the Legionary has gained enough experience to adapt any combat situations, even where he does not initially succeed. +2 to Defending against Enemy Counter-attacks. 
Inventory:
Gladius - The key weapon in the Legionary's arsenal, the Gladius is a one-handed sword that delivers both long swings and deep thrusts.
Scutum - A large, semi-cynlindrical shield that defends its wielder from all sorts of oncoming attacks and projectiles. A spherical piece of metal is welded onto the center of the Scutum, giving it offensive capabilities.
Galea - Metal helmet that offers protection for both the head and the facial region.
Lorica Squamata - Metal scale armor on top of a fabric foundation, developed to stop penetrative attacks.


Hastatus - Another type of Legionary that specializes in utilizing Javelins. Normally, Legionaries would carry both swords and spears, but the attacks on Rome have resulted in shortage and destruction of high-quality weapons. Thus, some Legionaries have stuck with their Gladius, while other choose to bring their spears to the battlefield.
Javelin Toss (Active) - The Hastatus can throw his spears as missiles, making them deadly projectile. Throwing the Pilum gives a +1 to the Attack, while throwing the Verutum results in no bonus, but can still produce deadly results.
Inventory:
Pilum - Long, fearsome javelin that can either be thrown at a distance or thrusted in closer combat.
Verutum - Javelin about half the size of the Pilum. It is used as the Hastatus's primary weapon after the Pilum is thrown.
Scutum - Large, semi-cynlindrical shield that defends its wielder from all sorts of oncoming attacks and projectiles. A spherical piece of metal is welded onto the center of the Scutum, giving it offensive capabilities.
Galea - Metal helmet that offers protection for both the head and the facial region.
Lorica Squamata - Metal scale armor on top of a fabric foundation, developed to stop penetrative attacks.


Sagittarii - Auxiliary archers of the Roman Army, who would fire volleys of arrows into charging hordes. They have become more vital than ever, as some of the most skillful missile units to defend Rome.
Piercing Arrows (Passive) - The powerful and accurate nature of the Composite Bow means that arrows will have a higher likelyhood to penetrate through armor than most weapons.
Fire Arrow (Active) - Light your arrow on fire and turn it into an incendiary. This tactic is not meant to kill, but to intimidate enemies. Upon a successful Roll with this Ability, the afflicted enemy unit will not be able to attack for their next turn. This ability can not be Counter-Attacked, 1-Turn Cooldown.

Ranged Specialist - While the Sagittarii are equipped for any ranged encounter, they suffer from lack of hand-to-hand combat experience. -1 when Defending against Melee Weapons.
Inventory:
Composite Bow - Traditional wooden bow that fires wooden, copper, and iron-tipped arrows. This bow is more powerful than one would expect for its size.
Denique-Lamia - A small metal blade to be used in the event that a Sagittarii must resort to close combat. It is designed to deliver quick, fatal stabs so that its wielder can return to firing arrows as quickly as possible.
Galea - Metal helmet that offers protection for both the head and the facial region.
Lorica Squamata - Metal scale armor on top of a fabric foundation, developed to stop penetrative attacks.


Equitatum - The light cavalry of Rome, especially skilled at making quick, sudden charges and utilizing hit-and-run tactics. These soldiers have become a rare sight, but strike fear into the hearts of invaders with their unparalleled speed.
Charge! (Active) - The Equitatum speeds into the enemy lines, targeting one unit, and rushing into them weapon-first. Charging with the Pila nets a +2 to Attacking, while the Spatha gets a +1. Requires Equss, 1-Turn Cooldown.
Loyal Steed (Passive) - The Equitatum shares a special bond with his horse, almost as if it understands his very words. If the Equitatum misses an Attack, there is a 33% chance that his Horse will immediately perform an attack of its own against his target. Require Equss.

Horseman Vulnerabilities - Not everything improves for a soldier as soon as they get on a Horse, as some weapons function very well against mounted soldiers. -2 to in any Combat against Enemies that wield Spears, Polearms, or similar weapons. Enemies wielding these weapons can not be Charged.
Inventory:
Equss - The Horse is the animal that transforms a soldier from walking on foot to moving at speeds impossible for men. Of all of the Equitatum's possessions, the Equss is his most valued.
Pilum - The same weapon given to infantry as a throwing javelin, for the Equitatum it becomes his main weapon, especially for charging.
Cavalry Spatha - Longsword given to the Equitatum, specially made with a rounded tip (as to prevent the horsemen from stabbing themselves in the foot as they rode) and enhanced swinging power for Equitatum. Despite it being a back-up weapon, it is just as lethal as the Pilum.
Galea - Metal helmet that offers protection for both the head and the facial region.
Lorica Squamata - Metal scale armor on top of a fabric foundation, developed to stop penetrative attacks.


Tormenta - Certain soldiers have experience operating the Ballista, a mechanized missile launchers that shot large projectiles. While larger Ballista were used for Sieges, during the raids, some Tormenta have managed to acquire smaller Ballistas, which were built as anti-personnel weapons. The Tormenta relies on this advanced piece of Roman military technology to shoot down barbarians.
Instant Impalement (Passive) - Provided that the shot properly hits, no armor or shield can stop a Ballista shot.
Bane of All (Passive) - It's an anti-personnel weapon, and the barbarians are all personnel. Needless to say, it works well against them. +2 to all shots.

Glass Cannon - While fearsome at range, the Tormenta is not equipped in any regards to fighting up close. -2 to close combat.
Inventory:
Ballista - The key piece of the Tormenta's inventory is his Ballista, a smaller version of the siege weapon. It delivers massive damage to all who come in its path, however, its mechanisms mean it has to be Reloaded after each shot.
Cultellus - The Tormenta relies on his Ballista to fight, his only other weapon is his Cultellus. It's not even a military weapon, as it is actually just the largest and sharpest knife he had in his kitchen.


Triarii - The heavy infantry of Rome, who came equipped in hard armor, carrying the largest of weaponry. Although the traditional Triarii were disbanded a couple centuries before, the attacks on Rome have lead to specialized soldiers emerging once more. The Triarii stand firmly, determined to slay any invader that step in their path.
Sweeper (Passive) - The Triarii were used to break through the last lines of enemy resistance, and kill off any that tried to flee. This, they are equipped to handle multiple combatants at once. +1 to fighting Enemy Units composed of groups.
Solid Wall (Passive) - Triarii can also function as static fortifications of sorts, shielding others behind their large shields, heavy armor and long weapons. The Triarii gets a +1 when functioning as a Guard.

Bulky Equipment - While he is undoubtedly strong and menacing, a Triarii soldier is not moving fast with his assortment of items, making him an easy target. -1 to Defending against projectiles.
Inventory:
Hasta - A giant 2-meter spear with an iron-tip. Because of its size, it can not be used a projectile like its smaller javelin relatives, and is purely for thrusting.
Infantry Spatha - Longsword used as a secondary weapon for Triarii. This version has a sharpened tip, so it can be used to stab as well as to slash.
Scutum - A large, semi-cynlindrical shield that defends its wielder from all sorts of oncoming attacks and projectiles. A spherical piece of metal is welded onto the center of the Scutum, giving it offensive capabilities.
Lorica Hamata - Mail armor made from metal rings that has been made to withstand all sorts of penetration. It is heavier than the Squamata variant.


Medicus - Not a soldier at all, but one of the educated and professionally trained physicians of the empire. He has no combat experience whatsoever, but possess the knowledge and tools necessary to keep the wounded alive in the battlefield.
Medic (Passive) - Has extensive know-how when it comes to dealing with all sorts of ailments and injuries. +2 to Healing rolls.
Will to Survive (Passive) - The doctor knows he is the one that can save these soldiers, and will keep on performing his duties even if he has to become his own patient. Medicus does not get penalized for attempting Self Surgery.

Civillian - He's a doctor, not a fighter! -3 to all Combat Rolls.
Inventory:
Medical Bag - Tools, herbs, cloth, you name it. He's ready to do anything from patching up cuts to amputating limbs.


Gladiator - A warrior not from the military, but born and raised into a breed of fighters for public spectacle. As such, they are among the best duelists in all of Rome. This Gladiator has been promised his freedom if he aids in the defense of Rome. He knows that he is to die, but figures that instead of meeting his death running from an endless stream of barbarians, he'll stand firmly and end his life doing the only things he knows how to do; fight and kill.
Taunt (Active) - A tactic used to distract and enrage opponents in the Arena, the Gladiator has all sorts of colorful lines to attract attention to himself. Taunted enemies will attack the Gladiator after being Taunted, though older and more experienced Gladiators may resist his words.
Master Duelist (Passive) - The Gladiator has fought and killed many men in the Arena throughout his life, and gets a +1 when fighting any Enemy Unit composed of one individual.
Specialized Duelist - On the flip side, the Gladiator is not trained how to defend himself from a large-scale coordinated attack. -1 Defending against Enemy Units composed of multiple barbarians.
Inventory:
Scissor - An unconventional weapon, made up of a metal tube fitted onto the Gladiator's forearm, with a smaller metal tube extending from the tip, before finally ending in a crescent-shaped blade. The Scissor effectively turns the Gladiator's hand into a fatal tool of war. The metal tube offers arm protection.
Cestus - The Cestus are similar to boxing-gloves, tied to the Gladiator's opposite hand, except instead of being made to reduce the damage of a punch, the Cestus increases the bloodshed as its outer-part is covered in a multitude of sharp spikes to rip apart flesh and muscle.
Lorica Squamata Pellis - Armor designed similarly to soldiers, except it is made from leather rather than metal. While it offers less protection in this manner, it gives the Gladiator more agility and flexibility. Less armored and lacking a shield, Gladiators rely on dodging and parrying to defend themselves, as well as a fighting style of relentless offense to ensure their opponent never gets to attack.


Mercenarius - Originally, many of the barbarians had gained military experience by being paid as mercenaries for Rome. Most eventually turned on their former employers, but a few, for some reason, stayed loyal to Rome. Whatever the case, they're here now, ready to stand side-by-side with the Romans and ready to cut down their former brethren.
Blood Lust (Active) - The true Barbarian side still has a tendency to come out, even in the most loyal of mercenaries. (X is a number chosen by the player, and can be between 1-3.) The Mercenarius gets a +X Bonus to Attacking and Counter-Attacking, while receiving a -X Penalty to Defending. Cooldown for X turns.
One of Them - Some of the barbarians are shocked to realize they are not charging a Roman soldier, but one of their own people. Barbarians will receive penalties when attacking a Mercenarius, and some will even just ignore them altogether. The effect of this Ability is relative to the age and rank of the Enemy Unit; younger and newer barbarian warriors will be more effected, while older and more jaded barbarians will see loyal mercenaries as traitors, and may actually target them first.

Old Superstitions - Even being loyal to Rome, the Mercenarius still holds onto his old beliefs. Among them is a fear of the strange and 'Devilish' medicine of the Romans. Whenever anyone tries to Heal the Mercenarius, there is a 50% chance that they will be rejected, even for major injuries. The mercenaries would rather take the blows of familiar weapons than be experimented on by foreign doctors, and will need to be convinced otherwise.
Inventory:
Double-Sided Axe - A traditional weapon of experienced barbarians are their large, two-handed axes with an edge on either side. Both heads of this weapon cleave through armor and bodies.
Curved Blade - Besides his axe, the Mercenarius is equipped with his one-handed sword. Unlike Roman blades, this one is curved and made exclusively for deep, brutal cutting.
Circle Shield - Barbarians typically pull out this one-handed shield when equipped with a one-handed weapon. It is metallic, and despite lacking a metal centerpiece like the Roman Scutum shield, it certainly can be used as its own bashing weapon.
Two Throwing Axes - Two smaller axes balanced for throwing. The Mercenarius can utilize these axes in a variety of ways, like tossing them in conjunction with a charge, or a surprise move for an unsuspecting combatant.
Hide Armor Outfit - These mercenaries prefer to wear a full-suit of armor, head-to-toe, composed of hardened animal hides rather than metal. This type of armor sheds some protection in exchange for mobility.
