Necdum Spiritum Romanus: Phase 2 [Retribution Phase]
Clyde, bleeding from his back, still manages to stay battle-ready on top of his Equss. And it's a good thing too, as he sees the Barbarian Slingers descending onto his town. He prods his horse to gallop into battle, and prepares his Pilum for stabbing use. (4 vs. 7) The Equitatum runs into the Slingers who all cleverly disperse before Clyde reaches them, not giving him any available targets to run through, in addition to leaving him surrounded. (6 vs. 4) The rider leaves, dodging a flurry of rocks which pelt the ground behind him. One of the stones however, does manage to hit him in the side as he leaves. It doesn't do any real damage, but it does create quite an annoying and painful sensation.
Thorsten Bohn looks around and finds a new doctor running out of the city. He quickly takes after him, running up to the medic. "Our last doctor was quickly killed with by a Barbarian, they are truly a ferocious people, stay with me if you wish to live!" John Doe nods to accept the protection.
Derres Patrione had been struck down early in the fighting from a two-pronged attack. This had prompted his brother Barrus to come forth from the city to avenge his fallen family. The Gladiator climbed on top of a roof, and found to his surprise a Barbarian Brute (II) beating down an unsuspecting Tormenta. Before the Brute could swing his Club again, Barrus got his attention, "You bastard son of a whore-breeding pig-faced prostitute! Why don'tcha live up to your family name and skulk away like the cowardly ass you were sired to?" The Brute responds with a roar and charges after Barrus, just as intended.
Zachariah Sinistra duels with Grunt (I). (10+1 vs. 2) Zach lunges forward with his Scissors and cuts the Barbarian straight across the belly, resulting in a mess of blood and pieces of internal organs falling out of him. The stunned Grunt falls to his knees, and just to make sure that his job is completely, Zachariah gives the Barbarian a Cestus hook right to the side of the skull, knuckle-spikes first. There is a brief cracking sound before the Gladiator is ready to fight off his next opponent.
Zachariah has slain Grunt (I)!
He receives 3 Points!Carl Anderson is in pain no doubt, but before he can be finished off by another vicious attack, Brute (II) is occupied with fighting a Gladiator. Thankful for the distraction, Carl takes the time to fit another bolt into his Ballista. As the time goes on, Carl feels the pain in his back fading.
[Pain has dissipated]
Aurus Romuli sets out to finish off the Demolishers, a group he has already damaged. He runs right past the Grunt (I) and into the fields, where he finds the gang coming towards the city with their torches held high. Aurus grips his Hasta and charges right into their ranks. (7+1 vs. 4) The first Demolisher ends up with thorough impalement like the first of his fallen group. The other Demolishers are alerted by this and fight back. Aurus blocks a single torch, and jams his javelin right through his attacker's skull. The final Barbarian unleashes a mighty swing that Romuli has to jump out of the way from, resulting in him losing hold of his Hasta. Things look good for the Demolisher who runs at Romuli, not knowing that the Roman has a back-up weapon. Needless to say, he ends up with a Spatha through the heart. As he enters his death-throes, Aurus walks over to his Hasta and retrieves it.
Aurus Romuli has slain the Demolishers!
He receives 7 Points!"MANY THANKS BROTHER! Come on boy, stay steady for me now." Asinus Ultricies gives thanks to his teammate before riding towards the distracted soldiers. Or the Soldier to be precise, who had been his target previously. Asinus rode into the Barbarian's position, (3 vs. 9) swinging his sword in a manner that would have cut right through his target had he been standing a foot or so back. The Soldier spins around and swings his Curved Blade upwards at Asinus as he rode by, (1-1 vs. 3) much too late as the Equitatum was already riding off once more just as he brought his blade up in a vertical motion.
Anders Anderland joins the fray upon the outside, where comes across Grunt (II). (6-1 vs. 4) Anderland swings and stabs his sword at the agile Barbarian, who easily dodges him. In fact, the Grunt almost laughs before Anderland gets dirty and hits him with a surprise punch to the nose.
Alex Raman had lost an arm, but all that did was fuel his rage. "I will die with my freedom! Yahhhhh~" He charges after the Beserker, who has since left Alex behind him, thinking he would just crumple up and die there. Instead, Alex ran at his backside, slashing downwards with his Scissor. (9+1 vs. 8-3) The sharp instrument cuts right through the Beserker's lower spinal cord, resulting in the hulking Barbarian falling forward as he loses some of his coordination, bleeding across the ground. Alex prepares to drive forward, when the blood-loss starts to get to him.
Dalen, an Archer by trade, is the first to notice the Slingers coming from beyond. Knowing the dangers of those who fling rocks, Dalen prepares his arrows to shoot the whole gang of them down. (1 vs. 9) Dalen reaches for his Composite Bow and...where the hell did his Bow go? He just put it down for a moment to grab some additional arrows from the ammunition pile. This isn't good. And just adding to his luck is the fact that his movements have alerted the Slingers. (6 vs. 4) Dalen retreats, bow-less, under the fire of hard rocks. One of them hits him in the back of the leg, and he tumbles forward. It hurt pretty damn bad honestly.
Bigus Dickus appears from the city once more. "Do not worry fellow soldiers, for I have come with my largest asset, in all of its glory and girth: The appendage of bloodlust! Hurrah!" Bigus charges out into the field, ready to take revenge for the death of his spiritual predecessor. Just as he reaches the outskirts of town, he comes across the sight of Aurus Romuli stabbing the Demolishers into oblivion. "Oh well, my revenge is temporarily sated."
John Doe, field Medicus, runs out of the safety of the walls to attend to the needs of the wounded, accompanied by his guard Thorston Bohn. To Doe's keen medical eye, the man needing the most medical attention would be Alex Raman, who had lost an arm and was still bleeding from the action. "My dear man, let my patch you up quickly!" (2+2) John proceeds to bandage up the wound, which bleeds so profusely that it breaks through most of the bandaging. "It has come to my attention that you are beyond my current medical expertise. Well, good luck to you."
[Alex Raman's Bleed-Out has been Prolonged by 1 Turn.]
John Doe gets 1 Point for trying. The Bandits sneak quietly into the Roman city as their Barbarian brethren hide them by diverting the attention of the defenders. Upon the way, they come across Dalen, who was running from a barrage of stone. The Bandits saw their first opportunity to secure some of that precious Roman expertly crafted armor, and pulled out their Curved Blades, running after the fleeing Sagittari. (1 vs. 8-1-1) Dalen turned around to find two Bandits stumble into each other in their pursuit of him, not the most threatening display of Barbarian aggression. Seeing his small window of opportunity, Dalen withdrew his Denique-Lamia and set upon his pursuers. (7-1-1 vs. 6) Dalen tackled one of the Bandits to the ground and began stabbing him through the chest many times. The other Bandit manages to push Dalen off, who is sure he has slain the one Barbarian, only to see him stand up again. It seems that Dalen had only succeeded in putting puncture holes through his Hide Armor, and now he had two angry Barbarians with swords confronting him.
Brute (I) made his way further down the path, where he came across John Doe treating Alex Raman. Those damn Romans and their devil magic would have to be eradicated, he decided, and he ran to Doe's rear. Before he could attack though, a large armored man got in the way of his intended target. (7 vs. 6+1) The Brute was able to stop before Thorston Bohn nearly impaled him through the shaft of his Hasta. Man, those javelins were really ruining this Brute's day.
The Beserker felt something break in his backside, and soon his legs movements felt awkward and contrived. He fell over, something was wrong was his body, and it must have been the fault of one of those damn Romans. He managed to pick himself up and turned around to find that Alex Raman had not capitulated, but in fact was standing up fine! Minus his arm being severed off and everything. The Beserker could not evoke his true rage, but was still angry enough to launch himself at Alex, his now most hated enemy. (10-1 vs. 5+1) Alex twisted his head just in time to see the Beserker slice down and take his other arm off at the shoulder. With blood spraying everywhere, Alex could only contort his face in an expression of 'Are you fucking serious?' The Gladiator took one step forward before he felt all of the energy in his body leave him. He fell face-forward in the dirt, unable to ever get back up. The Barbarian roars angrily.
Alex Raman has been slain by the Beserker! The Slingers clung to their Sling-pouches as they descended upon the town, where they found a Ballista and its Tormenta sitting high above them. As range soldiers, they knew that they were the ones who had to dispatch of opposing missile fire. (9 vs. 2) Just as Carl Anderson finishes loading up his device, he hears something loud and heavy hit the side of his Ballista. Instantly, an equally hard object connects with his forehead, and he slumps over the front of his device. He's not dead, or even bleeding seriously, but he's not moving either. While he fortunately did not die, he won't last long at all if he doesn't wake back up quickly.
The Pseudo-Legionary runs after Alex Raman Gladius-first, only to see the Gladiator get cut down before he reaches him. He nods to the Beserker in approval.
The Barbarian Soldier angrily misses Asinus Ultricies as he rides past. Before the rider can get very far away, the Soldier, in a fit of rage not frequently seen of him, throws his Double-Sided Axe at Asinus, a weapon certainly not known for its aerial properties. (3 vs. 7) The axe lands squarely at the feet of Asinus's horse. Asinus turns around and runs again at the Soldier, wishing to get rid of him as soon as possible. The Soldier in turn actually ran forward and leapt at the Roman! (1 vs. 5+2) Asinus swung his blade and missed while the Soldier skimmed a few arm hairs off of Asinus. Before Asinus could turn around again, the Soldier ran over to reclaim his axe which had fallen to the ground.
Brute (II) ignored all others as he took on Barrus, who simply adopted a defensive fighting stance as he waited for the Brute to make his move. The Brute got went into a Rage in his charge, and reached Barrus a bit before the Gladiator had expected. (6+1 vs. 3+1) Instead of dodging, Barrus only found the teeth of a Spiked Claw sink into his right arm. The Barbarian pulled back and ripped flesh apart with him, Barrus finding himself with a torn and bleeding arm, not at all what he planned for.
Grunt (II) rubs his nose, victimized of Anders von Anderland hitting him with his fist. The humiliation from being hit by such a lowly and deceptive move drove the Grunt to swing his Club at the Legionary. (5 vs. 9) He swung, and Anders stepped to the side, pulling his Gladius back and preparing for a thrust. (10 vs. 6) Anders drives his Gladius right into the Barbarian's breast, and just as quickly slides it out. The Grunt steps back and puts a hand to his chest, his lung having just been pierced straight through. If he didn't end the fight in the next few seconds, he was a goner.
Fleetfoot remained in tip-top shape, avoiding attacks and slashing apart the Romans with glee. He found Bigus Dickus simply admiring the decimation of the Demolishers, such arrogance from one of his own infuriated Fleetfoot, who quickly drew his axes and set upon the Dickus. (4 vs.
Dickus turned and saw Fleetfoot coming, and when the Barbarian lunged for him, Dickus gave him a kick upon the chest, sending him tumbling back. Dickus grabbed his Double-Sided Axe quickly and went about his duty to slaughter his former people. (9 vs. 1) It turned out that the true instrument of Fleetfoot's demise would not be the axe, but the leather boot that stood on his chest and pinned him to the ground, robbing him of his signature agility. Also, the axe stilled played a role as Dickus used it to cleave apart Fleetfoot's skull. Dickus walked away, speaking aloud, "You may have been the fastest of the Franks, Fleetfoot, but you didn't have what I have...an organ that drove the women to me....a massive...heart."
Bigus Dickus has slain Fleetfoot!
He receives 10 Points!Instead of the Sentinel running into battle, he actually fell back a bit to Guard one of the incoming, powerful but simultaneously vulnerable, Barbarian Units.
The Executioner hobbled forward on his good leg, looking to see if there were anymore souls for him to reap. He made it to a tree, waiting for a poor unsuspecting Roman to turn the corner, only to be pulverized by his Axe. Indeed, Clyde was running through the trees as part of his next maneuver, when the Executioner swung at him and his mount as they passed the tree. (7+1 vs. 4) He was just riding one moment, and then suddenly Clyde was sent tumbling to the ground. By the time he managed to regain his stance, he looked down to find his Equss lying dead in a pool of its own blood. The Executioner hit again from behind in order to soften him up for the killing blow, kicking him right where the Slingers had hit him with their stones. Clyde fell to the ground, his pain becoming much worse as a result. The blood-loss didn't help either.
