tTry setting one of them to the millitary, or even both. Then send them away from each other, wait, and see if she calms down. If not, build him a complex of rooms that he never has to leave.

Unfortunately neither the monarch nor his/her consort can be added to a squad.

I have made a fourth attempt - this time the queen arrived from the NE corner, and the migrants from the SW.  The queen arrived first, followed by her consort, and both flew into a rage as usual.  However, this time the queen charged the consort, who only managed to scratch her a few times before she punched him in the head, jamming the skull into the brain.

So now I have an intact monarch... who is very unhappy.  Interestingly enough, she's not upset that her spouse died - only that she has witnessed death and was caught in the rain.

Is the necromancer a member of an enemy civilization?

Not any that shows up in Legends Viewer.  He's only a member of my civilization.

Interestingly enough - after his death, the consort still shows up in Dwarf Therapist.  I only noticed him because he's showing up as the least happy of my haulers.  He was apparently caught in the rain recently, and is not upset at all about being beaten to death by his wife.  He is currently buried, so it's not a ghost.

Maybe Necromancers don't register properly with DT, so even though he's dead, the system never caught on.

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).

Check legends after the death of the necromancer.  My guess is that, being a necromancer, he was immediately flagged as an enemy of your civilization.

I loaded the save and something seems very odd with it. Everything happened just as you described, but when the consort arrived he was attacked and killed by the armorer- the queen died soon after the consort but she was 3 steps away from him the entire time, never fought, and was never attacked. My guess: she dies from heartbreak.

That's very odd - I have never seen the migrants attack the consort without the queen engaging him first.

When I get home tonight, I may have to experiment with this save.

(One Idea I have kicking around is to leave the game paused on the "monarch has arrived" announcement, and use dfhack to spawn obsidian walls around the suspects, so that their behaviors can be observed under more controlled circumstances.)

This is a good idea - please keep us all informed of your experiments.  I still have the backup save, but have continued on with the fort, monarch intact and consort dead (though still alive in Dwarf Therapist).  I may return to this when the fort collapses under the weight of my 129 babies.
