((I.. I was just being polite. It was manners. Asking how someone slept in the morning to make conversation is not rude. Most of what she is doing is not, in fact, aimed at irritating you, and I'm really not seeing where you're getting such hostility from. Saying hello in the morning is not going out of their path to vex you. ))

((It's probably just due to having a predetermined idea that she was being rude in some strange way.))

Krom enters the room.

"Fire and blood...I have never met someone who went so far from their path to vex me so."
"...Kyle, what did you do?"
(In Krom's defense, he came in right before this and Kyle is the only other person in the room.)

((Different cultures, different ideas of politeness. At least, that's my guesplanation.))

Kyle thumps his head on the table and goes out with Klannii to try and relieve tensions.

Kannii was leaning against the side of the building. She was singing, a fast, eager song, and without looking flicking a knife from hand to hand.
"A spider, so young, she sat on her web
Her stomach, it grumbled, she needed it fed
All around her were eyes, so jealous and cold
For the spider had woven herself a fine spidersilk cowl

So crept off her web and walked all around
She talked to her friends, but no food was to be found
She begged from her foes, and they laughed in her face
And she cried, and wondered, if this was truly her place

Until wicked ser grasshopper sprang to her aid
“Go to your foes,” he said, “make them afra-"
"

She cut off abruptly as the door opened and Kyle stepped outside.
"Hello, ser." she smiled. "Are you in a dark mood as well? I fear I am most disliked by the lady priestess."

Kyle sighs.
"I wanted to tell you that she meant no offense but that you have in the past been less than companionable to her so that may have made her believe you would continue to do so."

((She did answer your question, tho-and countered with a why do you care. And then you played the aggrieved party, instead of answering. She ~and I~ read that as annoying evasiveness. She ~and I~ REALLY do wonder why you care-how someone with such little respect for life can actually relate to other human beings. That was her most direct way of getting to you. You flubbed it.

Honestly, she's been half-way to Death and seen the other side of existence. Your disregard of the enormity of that-in a mocking, pretentious way-has greatly biased her ~and me~ against you.

Tldr, I created a 'Religious' character and yours seem to be an snarky atheist.))

"...It wasn't Kyle, it was that woman, that sellsword. She was bothering me again...pretending to care about my welfare. When she has bragged and japed of not caring a whit about life itself. Except her own, I'd guess. She has not seen what I have seen. She does not know the tragedy writ in every bloody sweep of a blade. Thousands  and thousands of voices, crying, pleading for mercy-lost in the Grey, weeping, miserable, lost. How can you claim to take a life so blatantly, if you have seen what I have seen? You cannot...

I don't understand her at all."

The Priestess has turned a deathly pale shade, grim as winter, since such feelings greatly sadden her.

((PM'd. Let's not clutter this thread, though I will say here that you think her much more selfish than she actually is.))

"We have a disagreement of philosophy. Ah well. I am willing to work with her, of course, I've fought alongside worse besides. Though..."
She turned an dark brown eye on Kyle.
"She seems to believe in tenants of mercy. I was raised not to. I slay my foes. If she wishes me to stay my hand, it will be... difficult."

"Just try to be nice and talk about why each of you disagree with the other in a civil way and it should be fine."

Krom moves forward and gently pats her on the back.
"Some people were raised differently, in lands or in slums where life is worth only as much as the person can help you in your struggle for survival. Others were surrounded by such a kill-or-be-killed attitude despite living in the lap of luxury, or nearer it than most. Some are forced into battle when their minds are still malleable with youth. And some are simply struck with trauma so severe or repetitive that they never appreciate life, because it is always taken from them. Even if you can't understand her, you can hope to understand why she acts how she does."

((I still say it's a cultural difference!))

"Then I do pity her, if that is the case. There is much misery in this world...I know better than anyone.

But, pity does change the fact that we will all have to choose one side or the other. She will wish to slay her enemies, in her fear. I would spare them, if I could...and, I did not say I have never killed...only that I am aware of the enormity of taking a life, and I do not rush to do so...is that so unreasonable, Ser Krom? Is that small measure of mercy-to think before acting-such a burden? Where do your own beliefs lie?"

((Quite a bit is cultural, yes. She was raised to kill people for the Kilaan throne. That doesn't tend to imbibe you with great respect for life.))

Kannii lifted an eyebrow. "I attempted civility just now, ser. It seems to have gone down poorly, so I did not impose my presence where it was unwelcome." She frowned. "I was told politeness was greatly valued in this land, almost as much as mine own, but the priestess seems to take offence at it. We have our philospical differences, but I believe we had agreed to set them aside. I can only conclude dislike."
She shrugged beneath the cloak, snatching the blade out the air and slotting it into the sheath.
"In the end, it matters little. Either she will deign to work with me or not. It is out of my hands."

Krom sighs.

"To end a life--to end anything--is a crime, a darkness upon your soul. I will do so if needed, but if not...'tis best to avoid. Some are more calculating or bloodthirsty, either weighing lives as coin or simply enjoying the feeling of the lifeblood of those who angered them running through their fingers."

((Quite a bit is cultural, yes. She was raised to kill people for the Kilaan throne. That doesn't tend to imbibe you with great respect for life.))
((And I'm guessing what's-Dwarmin's-name comes from a culture where cultural pleasantries are different.))

Wesley sighs.
"Look, I'm not cultured but you may have come off as though you were being civil to get her goat. You know, like saying 'yes sir' and it coming out as 'fuck you'."
