’Ah, this is more the sort of individual I was expecting.’ The elf nods his head in a mock bow. ’All I know of the bandits is that that is how they have been described to me. The Varden Empire are not the sort to lie about such a matter, but who they consider to be bandits does not alway match the view of others. They consider them threatening enough to not use their own troops, and yet they do not send their elite troops to resolve the matter. Quite frankly, I’m as confused as you are.’ His lips draw tighter. ’But orders are orders.’
He reaches to his belt next and pulls from it a small pouch, tossing it to Kannii. ’20 gold upfront for each of you. 2 crowns each upon completion - 200 hundred gold is the equivalent outside of our city here.’

Wesley 's eyes widen with glee.
"Wow we don't get that much unless we take a treasure..."
Wesley realizing who he's with shuts his mouth.

 He sighs.
’Whilst I myself don’t care much for your histories, please at least try to pretend to be respectable when you’re on royal coin.’

"Sounds like a very good pay. But not much information on the bandits then? Seems odd, but I guess we'd learn enough about them when we get there. Assuming we take the job."

((Did we ask about the pay for the other job? I skimmed the other pages but I don't think we did.))

Kannii tucked the pouch into a sleeve. She'd distribute it later.

"Some questions about you, dragonslayer. Have you experience in similar matters as the task you set before us? I would not want to presume on experience beyond dragon-slaying." She smiled faintly. "Hunting men is different to sitting in an office commanding others, after all."

’I was - how did you put it - hunting men long before I reached this office. My grandparents were amongst those who fought with yours, if I place your origins right. My parents defended our forests against those who sought to break the truce. And I myself served that way for a time.’ His words spill out until just as suddenly they halt, and a silence falls over the room for a minute. When he begins to speak again he is more pensive, and seemingly distracted. ’Yes, I have experience in hunting men. More literally than you do, I would guess. And since I came here I have only become more accustomed to such tasks. Do not doubt my abilities, girl. they were in training before you were even born.’

Kannii grinned at the challenge inherent in the elf's words. Her blood still ran hot beneath her skin from the fight with Floe. "You have a sharp ear for accents, ser. For all the strength of the elves, Kilaana still was forged from the flames of war and the lands of the elves. Even the March only halted our advance, for all your numbers and your runes, and one day - Kilaana will take it all."

After a tense second she nodded apologetically. "I apologise. I was not intending to cause offence. My tongue moves faster than my mind after a fight."

Wesley sighs rubbing his temple.
"I wish that I was lying when I said that seems to be true."

’There is none taken. though know that an empire forged in blood shall fall the same way. I was born in the age of the Swamp Scourge, girl. I saw your people slaughtered, shields locked with mine. I feasted with Ketari once he left your empire to seek peace. Or perhaps you did not know that one of your greatest heroes felt his own people too bloodthirsty for his liking?’ He laughs, somewhat coldly. ’Do they not teach you that in your schools? Then I am sorry. But remember, just because you have seen blood doesn’t mean you have witnessed slaughter. It is not a pleasant sight, and it is one such that a great many lesser evils have been permitted to prevent it.’[‘/i] His face falls, growing more troubled. ’Ask yourself, girl, which evil you are. And i hope for your sake that you find the right answer.’
He turns, walking back towards the window, and waves a hand over his shoulder. ’Now, unless you have any more relevant questions, feel free to see yourselves out.’

Wesley nids to him before going down to the courtyard to watch the sparring. As he watches be absentmindedly pulls out a piece of rope and starts tying skillful knots in it.

Kannii laughed at the question. "Just the one they made me, dragonslayer." She nodded and left. Once in the courtyard, she looked around for the breakroom. She had someone to meet.

Gerwick will follow after, glancing at the practice combat taking place. "So, what do you two think about the jobs so far? The one just offered has great pay, but I'm wary about the lack of information about the bandits."
