Well now I'm trying to figure out what day it was that the mine adventure took place.

And also the actual specific location, what Celles' officer number is(if you told me, I don't remember, though I can trawl the thread for it), and how to refer to Hix'ix'ix. And then, of course, I need to make sure I know what Gartens perceived.

Let me calculate the date, and her officer number is arbitrarily 0712 and Gregory's is 0713. Hix'ix'ix was, as far as you can tell, an employee of the AMC with seniority, and a managerial position. He's probably a foreman.

Can I start the game with a couple of powers from the psion disciplines? Erudites can acquire those by spending xp, but it's really cheap (20 xp per Erudite level) and I think it's not unreasonable to assume I would've been able to recoup the losses for a couple of level 1 powers.

Alright, that makes sense. Wish I'd thought of that. Which brings up the question, of course, how common is Psionics in this world? And for that matter, how common are Elan? I assumed I could play one, seeing as their pretty basic, though I suppose I should ask anyway (Can I play an Elan?).

Also, Magic Psionics Transparency includes detection, right?

Psionics are rare. It's mostly a lost art, practiced only by the natural psionic races and reclusive monks. If you've heard of it, you probably don't understand it, and that scares you. You've heard tales of men leveling armies without moving a muscle, tales of creatures that can bend you to their will, and EVERYONE has heard about mindflayers.
But can't magic do that to?
"Well, yeah, but magic's different, ya know? I mean, look at Fred. His son's now the village Healer. I mean he did try and enslave the village, but we all make bad choices. He's better now. He's not evil, not like those psionics."
Basically, it's the other, and most practitioners hide it behind the guise of magic. Which explains your choice of Erudite perfectly.
And Elans are fine. They are sort of shunned, but that's normal for Elans.

How's this as a backstory?

Aldo Kahn was born the fifth son of a minor noble. This provided him with a decent amount of wealth and the freedom to pursue most anything he wished. Being naturally curious, Aldo decided to take himself on a "Pilgrimage" to each of the home temples of the major Gods in his kingdom, a plan that his devout father smiled upon. In reality, of course, this was merely an excuse to travel and see the world. This trip really broadened his horizons, as up until now he'd never had much freedom to meet "the common folk" or experience new things. It was during his travels that he heard whispers of "Psionics!" muttered in the same tone usually reserved for Lichs and things of that sort. He spent a fair amount of time trying to get a straight answer, but the most he could seem to get were tales of strange powers and stranger men, Mind flayers and madness. Intrigued, he eventually came to The Royal Library, where a kindly librarian helped him research the matter. This only served to increase the mystery, however, as he came upon references to a strange cult, or a guild, or a lost race of men. Details were scarce, unfortunately, but the librarian was able to give him a map to a lost monastery where records might be found. After a long journey and several misadventures, he finally found the place, and in the basement, a whole stack of carefully preserved scrolls and tomes. On his way back to the library, Aldo was met by his elder brother Friedrick, who had come to warn him. His father had become enraged by his abandoning of the pilgrimage, and was set to marry him off to an elderly widow in exchange for a trade agreement. Friedrick told him that his father had sent deputies to collect him, and that they were just a few days away! Alarmed, Aldo hurried back to the library to ask for help. Upon arriving, the librarian whipped off his disguise, revealing himself as an Elan! He told Aldo that the Quest had in fact been a test, and that he had passed with flying colors. If he wished, the Elan would be happy to recruit him - and of course clean up this inconvenience with his family. Delighted, Aldo accepted the offer. When his fathers deputies came to town, to collect him, Aldo put up a fight, and in the chaos, faked his death with the help of his new friends. Upon his transformation to elan, Aldo changed his name to Joes Arlandt, breaking ties with his past completely.
