I added in the edit, but is there anything newer or fan re-make or anything that works better on newer windows/pcs that is about building dungeons? Or mods for games? I haven't looked at Dwarf Fortress mods in a while but maybe I should see if there is any DF mod in that vain
A quick search suggests War of the Overworld, Dungeons (apparently a whole series that one), Dwelvers (early alpha). Also Undermaster (browser, freemium).

Dwelvers is cute, but has been in "early alpha" for...like seriously 10 years.

This made me remember : excellent Return to Chaos works good on window 10 (at least for the few minutes i replayed it to check)

Thanks for this. My brother and I will enjoy this thoroughly.

War *for the Overworld seemed okay by the way, from a few hours with it.  I checked it out a few months ago so I can't go into detail, but it seemed fine.  It might even be better than loading up DK2 again, or DK1, because a lot of UI and balance stuff in those games *don't* hold up.  Especially DK1, for all its heart.

My recollection is that it scratched the itch - heck, I'm reinstalling it now for tomorrow.

I found this, it apparently allows better resolution and what not. Says needs the original game, but maybe GOG version would be good enough

KeeperRL looks interesting too, hadn't heard of that one.

Kerbal Space Program is up there with my favorite games. I was reading about some science stuff lately and considered briefly modding KSP to modern technology. Then I remembered the sequel, but it seems like KSP2 is going to be terrible. Is there any game that is similar? Building rockets and sending then to the moon, making crappy roverbots to scoot around the moon's surface, unlocking tech along the way, and failing desperately to reach Mars in one piece - I love all that.

I prefer KSP's lack of realism (specifically, food and oxygen), but would play a game where you also had to deal with that part. Any ideas?

I'm in the mood for a very generic game.

Some fort of RPG or really anything that has any type of strategy where you are an individual who has obtained a unique and incredibly powerful power. You use it and your enemies are like "WHAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!" and then you save the day, happy ending, the end.

Maybe try checking out some of the Kemco lineup? There's probably something in those things that more or less matches that, and they largely match the conditional of "generic rpg" pretty well.

There really should be a One Punch Man game, where you're playing a generic JRPG, but all combat is just one button that immediately wins the fight and everyone goes 'Whaaat!?'

Sounds close to One Finger Death Punch or OFDP2 :P  Obviously things don't remain quite so simple but that's the basic mechanic.  I greatly enjoyed both games, they're good coffee-break diversions.

I can't remember titles right now, but I'm like 90% sure something like that actually exists. There's rpgs out there were you basically start with an end game character and stomp all over most/all of the combat involved, usually as part of a parody effort or somethin'.

If you're going outside of games, that's probably a sizeable chunk of light novels or similar works, heh. Though, uh, less (intentional) parody on that front, generally for the worse :P

I recall a literal one punch man game where if you pick Saitama, you only get to play as him and the opponent simply needs to survive long enough with the three of them because he does indeed one-punch you.

And then there is One Finger Death Punch, where you play as a stick figure and press one button over and over to beat up everyone around you.

Brilliant game, there's a surprising amount of depth to it despite the simple control scheme. It's the perfect embodiment of pick-up-and-play. Highly Recommend.

IIRC, OFDP uses two buttons, not one.
