... Okay, La-Mulana's so massively cut in price that we can add Gunpoint to our little giveaway here.  So, that will be a thing that's happening :D

I'd like to see that change.

Yes.

Alright, after reviewing my choices, I have decided to replace Long Live the Queen with Gunpoint.

Thanks once more for doing this Vector :)

I had fun playing Princess Maker before, so I wouldn't mind Long Live the Queen to be added to my collection.

I wouldn't mind seeing more strong female leads that aren't so "strong" in personality, or too moe either (and not emphasizing it by showing off in skimpy attire all the freaking time). Basically, a good lead type that's not too exaggerated or over-the-top, but still noticeable enough to hold it's charm without blending with the woodwork or feeling mass-produced, despite being the lead role.

So to speak, that would be the kind of queen I would also raise in the game; basically, a little miss badass that would come from left field due to her sweet and charming personality.

EDIT:
Filled in the blank.

I could really go for La-Mulana if it's available, I've heard good things from some forum member or other. Lots of cakely avatars, I seem to remember.

Also, I'd like to see understandable villains more often - the kind where they're still clearly in the wrong, but you understand how they got where they are, and may even agree with what they're trying to do. The sort of villain who's got good motives and makes a good argument for their cause. Sane, reasonable, and consistent. Just ruthless, or blind to consequences, or otherwise convinced that what they're doing is justified.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I'd like to apply for Long Live the Queen.  It seems like a fun plot-driven puzzle.

I would like to see more pacifistic main characters, or at least main characters who do their best to solve problems without violence and killing.  I find that having gameplay where you casually slaughter hundreds of people often undermines the story of a game by implying that the main character is an emotionally dead psycopath.

I'd say LA Noire is an example of this problem, while the Ace Attorney games have the kind of non-violent main characters I'm talking about.

I could really go for La-Mulana if it's available, I've heard good things from some forum member or other. Lots of cakely avatars, I seem to remember.
I really enjoyed La Mulana.  It gave a genuine feeling of exploration and discovery, and the remake removes most of the really annoying puzzles.  The music is fantastic too.

I'm in for gunpoint.

I would see more complexity in game characters in AAA titles. Right now, if you want a character that has emotions or feeling or is actually interesting, then you have to go to indie games, and it would be cool if the bigger studios would pick up on that.

1. Papers Please

I'd like to see a character that gets to tell a story through flashbacks in a dynamic storyline.

That kinda reminds me of the Ur-Quan in Star Control 2. I mean, the crap they had to put up with; I understand their motives, albeit it's a bit harsh and over the top, but given the threat THEY had to deal with, it actually sounds somewhat reasonable, just in case history repeats itself. Given the damage done by the end of the game, we humans would make probably the next biggest threat.

...Ok not that. >_<

I'd love to see a female protagonist that plays the protagonist role straight--as in, nothing that deviates for any darn reason. Ideas come to mind like the main character in Portal more than others (...I can't remember many others :S). As in, games which treat gender as gender, and nothing more [I can defend this by stating that the differences mostly lie in anatomy/physiology, all else are on intangible beliefs and how we see each other]. To not hold characters by how the generality sees them, but for who they are as people (even non-human//anthropomorphic characters for that reason). Like, as opposed to our world history, make a setting wherein none of this stuff happened and equality in that sort, reigns truly.

Passing idea anyway: What I'd also like to see more are characters who have choices--who know their choices, and are preferably not forced towards a destined choice or a linear action (ie 'Just because there's a totally evil dude attacking the whole everything means the ending goes as a confrontation between you and him...'). Meaning: Directness and indirectness. While things like those could happen--I'd like the notion of time and action to be intertwined (like, what you did before has a significant effect on others actions as they do the same to yours). Bleh, probably being vague here. I could restate this idea if it is too vague.

...And if I could add another idea, the concept of the silent character (ie You are the character) with everything flowing with you is a classic idea to follow, though, with free will and following the ideas that our world revolves in (like morals and ethics coming into play given that there are mostly barriers between the player and the world to immerse in). Or diplomacy as a character concept. Or a character which can actually call out the player if wrongs are done not by 'I STRIKE YOU DOWN' but by words and such--preferably..someone the protagonist knows? That's a rare thing to see as a game mechanic. I haven't seen many of those in recent times.

Oh, also sincerity. I just love sincere characters and understanding how they tick (yeah, defense mechanisms and all--fully fleshed out characters are nice to see.)

On all the above--full character customization if we're going on free-world play. If its a predestined character, then aim for the silent-type and let the game, not so much revolve around, but flow around him/her--not saying that 'if I do x, then character y will react like x', but...to add in the 'human' characteristic to how all characters are defined in and around the player.

...Oh great I just wall O' texted again. >_<

To the best of my knowledge, and a quick google-search later, La Mulana has no spiders :]

Oh good gods thank you. Even if the draw is random...you don't know how many good games I've thoroughly enjoyed and then OMG SPIDER ATTACK ARGHGHGH *flee from PC/Playstation* >__<
Its thoroughly embarrassing and argh.

...Come to think of it. Characters that are immediately hostile need to be looked at more. These mostly go along with the 'territorial' types.

Edit: Quick skim caught my eye.
Also, I'd like to see understandable villains more often - the kind where they're still clearly in the wrong, but you understand how they got where they are, and may even agree with what they're trying to do. ...*point* ^
Or that the whole system is actually wrong, which would either result in a revelation to the player post-game (Nier comes to mind..oh gods. I'm not spoiling anything though :P) or that there'd be free-choices if the player sees it coming and tries to intervene, which would have a different consequence on the world at large, from the player-perspective, usually.
