Indentifying vampires?
« on: December 21, 2013, 03:54:59 pm »

A few in-game weeks ago, I got an announcement saying "Urist McNoblood, Dwarven Dwarf has been found dead, completely drained of blood!". I just thought "what the hell?" and went on with the game, thinking there was some sort of animal that killed him outside.
One in-game week later I got the same announcement. I got kinda worried.
Just now I got the same announcement again. I wiki'd it, and it turns out I have a vampire wandering in my fortress.
I noticed that everytime a dwarf died from it, its body was in my dorm. This also verifies that "vampires will only attack sleeping dwarves", as said on the wiki.
Now I am watching the dorm, hospital, and my nobles' bedrooms all day(theyre all on the same floor, and they fit into one screen), pausing when I need to do something else.
Its boring to play the game like that, thats no secret. But I dont want that vampire murdering off the whole fortress behind my back.
Does anyone have a reliable way to identify a vampire that doesnt involve having to keeping close watch over a specific area?

The best way to demonstrate it to him is take a save of 40 year old fortress with 150 dwarves in it on a good sized embark with a volcano that just breached the circus and install it on his gaming rig and watch it bring his rig to its knees.

Interesting that you ask that question at this time. To prevent duplication, take a look at http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=134437.0

What exactly do you mean by "interesting"

I find it interesting because a thread on the exact same subject started just a few days prior to your asking.

Thanks. I found the vamp using dwarf therapist.
I dont have access to my computer atm. I have thought of a good punishment for him :3
That is, confining him to a cage and dumping the cage into my dwarven atom smasher.

Good luck getting him into a cage, but if he's temporarily in the military, you can station him in the smashing room and proceed to flatten him.

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.
