Everyone is John: Mugged by an invisible man
« on: December 21, 2013, 05:20:14 am »

Hey everybody! Let's play Everyone is John!

"What is Everyone is John" you ask? Well that's a good question.

In Everyone is John, well, everyone is John, or rather, everyone plays one of John's multiple personalities. You see, John suffers from a form of DID, (Dissociative Identity Disorder) and you get to play his many alternate personas, all vying for control of his fragile psyche. I will be playing Everyone Else, which means I will be playing all of the people around John, in addition to narrating the events of the story.

"Well that's all well and good," you may be saying, "But how does one play Everyone is John?"

Players take turns controlling our protagonist, John. Each player starts with 10 Willpower, which they may bet in order to control him. Bets will be sent to me privately by PM, and if you don't send me a bet within 24 hours of the bet opening, I will assume you did not want to bet. The person betting the most Willpower loses said Willpower and takes control of John, all other players may keep the Willpower they bet. Ties are normally resolved with a die roll, but I'll be using a random number generator.
Now that you have control of John, you may be wondering what you should be doing. Well, each Personality has its own Obsession, which gives them a certain number of points when completed. The number of points awarded for each obsession depends on the difficulty of said Obsession being fulfilled. Some examples are as follows:
Spoiler: 1 point (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: 2 points (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: 3 points (click to show/hide)
As you can see there is much to choose from, but I encourage you to pick something unique and not on these lists. Once an Obsession is completed, control of John becomes up for grabs, and the player who last controlled John may even bid again, or remain in control if no players opt in. A personality will also lose control of John if he becomes unconscious in any way. The game ends if John dies, or all Personalities run out of Willpower.
Now this may sound fairly simple, but John is fairly is fairly inept when it comes to most things. However, his Personalities are even varied in their knowledge and skills. Anything that a normal human being would have even the slightest bit of difficulty doing will require a D6 roll. If the Personality controlling him at the time does not have the relevant skill, the roll must be a 6 to succeed. However, if the Personality does have the skill, the roll must only be be a 3+. Another way a player can lose control of John is by failing a roll.
A personality can have two skills, unless they spend three Willpower at the beginning of the game to get a third skill. These skills must be at least slightly specific; Skills such as "Good at everything" or "master of all things lethal" will not be tolerated. Some examples of potential skills: Dancing, Shooting, Explosives, Sneaking, Swordfighting, Expert Driver, Eating Almost Anything, Playing Video Games, Swimming, Lock Picking, etc.
As with the Obsessions, please don't feel limited to picking from this list!

"This sounds like a lot of fun!" I hear you shouting, "But how can I join in the festivities?"

Simply post in this thread! Once you have, send me a PM with your skills and your Obsession, and eventually I will call for the first bid. In any case, have fun being John!

EDIT: Oh, a couple more things:
When it is not your turn to control John, please do not post in the thread. Also, your Obsession and skills should be a secret! The rules do not forbid revealing them, but they strongly encourage you to keep them a secret until the end. This will prevent other Personalities from trying to sabotage you, and makes the game more fun in general.

Another thing I should have noted, your Obsession can still be completed even if you are not in control of John.

All you have to do is PM me an Obsession and two/three skills. (Three skills means you start with 7 Willpower instead of the normal 10)

Also I'm closing signups now! We've got one more player than I was planning for, but we'll make it work. Now I just need Obsessions and skills from USEC_OFFICER and Ddynamo and we can start playing.

Re: Everyone is John: In the beginning, there was John
« Reply #14 on: December 23, 2013, 04:26:06 am »

Let's begin, shall we?

John works part time at a local restaurant in downtown Minneapolis. He wakes up on the floor of the employee bathroom, to the sound of his boss angrily banging on the door and telling him his shift is up. His boss is a temperamental woman and he usually tries not to get on her bad side.

Please bid for control of John. Bids will close tomorrow at 1:30 AM PST.
