Questions about deadly blood
« on: December 20, 2013, 11:00:08 pm »

I had two forgotten beasts down in the caverns which kind of make me jittery about exploring the place further, so I decided to get rid of them. Since one of them has deadly blood which I really don't want to make my dwarves get anywhere near, I constructed a remote trap corridor to kill them, which worked out well for me - but now the deadly blood's spilled inside the corridor, and possibly out of it, so my questions:

1) The place now looks like depicted below. Obviously I can't let anyone get inside the trap corridor unless I want them to die horribly, but does that affect the corridor where the floodgate is?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

2) Is there anything I can do to clean up that corridor so I can step inside of it safely again?

Also, while looking at the picture I'm reminded of a third question I want to ask:

3) There's a squad of goblin bowmen lead by a goblin axeman outside, but they are right now just kind of chillaxing around some murky pools (which the goblin axeman and his giant toad mount is taking a pleasant swim in currently apparently). I have no doubt that my military can beat them (they have superior equipment, skills and numbers), but they're bowmen and I kind of want my traps to do their work to thin their ranks a bit before attacking. Is there anything I can do to convince them to get over here already, perferably without endangering any dwarves?

Can you lure the goblins into the deadly blood, by any chance?

It should be able to be cleaned, but I think you basically have to have a dwarf with nothing else to do who sees the contaminant himself and can path to soap and water at the moment he sees it, or something stupid like that (all I know is you can up the odds, but can't actually make them good).

It may also be possible to flood the worst of it out, but water will multiply contaminants as it pushes them away, so beware -- you will probably just wind up with even more blood somewhere else... but if that somewhere else is where you want it, say, the goblin camp...

On the other hand, if I'm not mistaken, goblins path wherever a dwarf is that's not blocked off: use this to your advantage.

If you don't feel any obligation to play the game the hard way, consider changing the walking spreads spatter init setting to off for fort mode, so anything that does walk in the blood doesn't track it wherever else they get to before they die, just suffer from it themselves. (I think this comes set to off by default, but I can't guarantee it.)

I have an idea. Let's play a game where you win by being as quiet as possible.
I get it, it's one of those games where losing is fun!
I spend most of your dimension's time outside of your dimension. I can't guarantee followup or followthrough on any comments, ideas, or plans.

Considering that the goblins are camping above-ground while the deadly blood is 23 z-levels below the surface, I don't see a good way to make those meet.

Maybe I'll try to use meeting zones to try and get some animals to lure them in tomorrow.

Would magma purge the corridor with no residue? I still haven't dug down to where the magma is yet, nor do I have any plans on how to bring it up, but at some point in the future I'll probably do that once I figure out the precautions necessary. The spikes are made out of steel anyways.

Building a floor over a tile will clean it.

What if there are constructions (like those steel spikes) on them, though?

blood or ichor or other poisonous stuff on the ground won't hurt any dwarf that's wearing shoes, boots or socks. Pets are a different problem.

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.
