"Oh I can get together some military supplies, one nuclear capable helicopter coming up!"
And with that, I begin work on a nuclear weapon and a helicopter with enough duct tape and some scissors to drop the nuke.
...
I fail to see how that plan could backfire.

It cannot, especially since it detonates via a very long fuse! I also have one of those bendy lengthy lighters.

We need a place that we can launch supplies from first, maybe we should take over some country that nobody cares about.

Good suggestion. Someone get to work on compiling a list of countries both geographically useful and politically insignificant. Posthaste.

I fail to see how it is in any way beneficial to the progress of our endeavor.

I call Chief Science Engineer, in order to ensure that at least seems probable.
I found F. U. Physics Inc. (A.K.A. Fun Utilization of Physics Incorporated) a organization dedicated to one goal: BREAKING PHYSICS!(If not previously clear I would like to be head of a subset of The Engineering Corps which will be Theoretical Physics.)
Its good to see there aren't any departmental rivalries brewing. My job is going to be so easy.

Helicopter... I assume the pilot's life is forfeit then? And how you intend to make a nuke without duct tape boggles the mind to comprehend.

King DZA strikes the plan in the flaw! It's super effective!

Nuking things is a thing we don't currently have a use for. By the time we're in a position to rain hellfire upon those too feeble to understand our workings, and too weak to stop it, we should already have nuclear power as a matter of course (There ain't no oil on the moon or mars guys.)

Good thing it is a fake nuclear weapon!

We just scare them enough to silence them and get funding for 3-4 months, and by then we will have enough power and rockets that we can assert our dominance by de-orbiting some space debris.

I order aluminum sheeting, steel I beams, enough solder to attach Optimus Prime to the ISS, liquid hydrogen facilities, and I express ship.

why does every body want to go to mars or Luna when we could go to Saturn or Jupiter.

I personally call for an Europa mission. Send a submarine probe equipped with a nuclear heat drill to pierce the ice. Then we'll explore the oceans under the ice and may discover alien life! The study of said life will give great insight on the inhabitability of icy moons.
Otherwise, a permanent lunar base with biodomes seems like a good start. Start building it with robots and 3D printers maybe? The experiment will be source of great knowledge for when we set on terraforming mars.
Another achievement is mining asteroids. How exactly is not my domain though.

"I second the Europa notion! We shall conquer the plains of ice with our youthful vigor, speaking of which, I am requesting several hundred kilometers of rails, a crapton of sheet metal, a supercapacitor bank (several hundred farads in each capacitor) and a book on how the Lorentz force works. Also, twenty cubic meters of Jell-O."

Claiming place as the Chief of the Transhumanism Development Augmentation and Creation Department

Action://<I walk into the headquarters building, shout incoherently at the secretary and storm off into the basement. Three nerdy looking types follow carrying !fun! -Biology and Machinery Equipment-. My voice echoes from the bottom of the rickety staircase "I claim this basement in the name of the TDACD! A paper airplane flies out of the basement and into the Great Axelord department. It comes to a rest near the Head AL, should he choose to read it it will say:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
the Nerds and I begin setting up the equipment> Action End.

Reserving spot and hopping in, won't be super active till mid February but just assume my department is working on ?fun? stuff in the headquarters basement if I don't post much in January. I has a timetable for innovations based on available resources so even if I don't post much, stuff will be getting done.

Yes, then we will steal a Delorian DMC-12 and tape it to the capacitor.

We might also attempt this.

Can a Delorean reliably travel several seconds into the past, at least in theory?

Does it matter we could have a device capable of killing everyone.

What's better: a device that is capable of killing everyone, or a device that is capable of killing everyone and their worthless ancestors? Besides, I'm merely trying to engineer a resupply system, not kill everyone. Well, not as a priority goal, at least.
