Not really. The Spacetram system has the significant advantage of ignoring athmospherical friction during the arceleration. Your rocket sleigh would have significant trouble not tearing itself apart.

Additionally, the power concerns are the reason the Spacetram system is expected to have it's own dedicated (nuclear) power plants.

Edit: Additionally, so far, spaceplanes have cost only more than normal spacecraft. Extensive tests have to be done between each flight, parts have to be replaced, and you loose a lot of thrust because you need to lug all the heatshielding and such up.

I fail to see how building the death-star is less fun than building a railroad.

Magnetic railroad, transplanetary magnetic deathcannon, your choice.

"Well. I just opened a portal to the sun. What do you guys think I should do with it?"

I'm talking small SRBs.

Urist McGtaguy has begun constructing a thorium reactor.

Thorium is just as good as a uranium/plutonium reactor, but with more available fuel. A single fission reactor should provide enough power to provide constant acceleration.

Also it isn't a corkscrew, it is an inclined rail that continues to increase angle until at 90* degrees. I just realized that with constant acceleration would cause the corkscrew to rip itself apart.

"Do we have a chemistry division? I need some space lube."

Also a magnetic portal to the sun would cause it to explode, since plasma is affected by magnetic fields.

Well technically to the magnetic filed of the which extends far over it's surface.

Be head of the chemistry department.

I need spacelube for my railgun-style launch assist project.
