ASCIIension

Recently, I've stumbled upon this cool-looking new game, called ASCIIension.

If the title image hasn't made you turn back (given that we're in the 2050s), then great, because you're in for a very fun game.

Most of you are probably way too used to those virtual reality games and just want to go back to the good old video games. You probably do if you're still using the Internet.
Anyway, ASCIIension is, in short, a massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (or MMORPG for short - those were apparently common 50 years ago) where you take over an elf/dwarf/human/goblin/kobold/whatever else in a procedurally generated world that you're an integral part of.

It's done so well that you can't (easily) recognize an NPC from an actual player, which is great.
It uses those archaic "ASCII" symbols in place of graphics (which is why it's named the way it is), so it may be hard to understand at first, but damn, it's great.

Don't like any of the online servers? Make your own!

It's apparently based on this 2010s game called Dwarf Fortress, which my dad used to play and it was fun, but I could never undestand it. :D
Oh, and it's free, too.

I'm currently playing on Harvenstets, or "Chapel Realm". It's an archipelago-heavy world and ships are very much meta here.

I'm the captain of the Redpearl, a large war brig of the elven civilization of Chikkii. (don't worry, we have stolen it from the humans because we're dirty like that - you don't expect us to use WOOD to make ships, do you?)
Mostly sailing around the Sea of Pearls, occasionally in the southern Baffling Oceans. Doing patrols and all that associated crap. Apparently our tea plantations are raided a lot lately. Why the hell does the king need me to do that is beyond me, but hey, feel free to stop by Fort Amalan! I know a lovely tavern in there with some cheap booze in it.

That's it from me for now. And remember,

Huh. This game looks pretty interesting. I downloaded Dwarf Fortress about 2 years ago. It's fun, but the dated damage system made me quit. Anyways, rolling a Gnomish Wayfarer.
EDIT: Woah, this game is amazing. I guess the primitive graphics made it possible for them to work on the gameplay more. Final Fantasy LXXXIII has nothing on this game. So far, I've gotten up to level 8, high enough to start getting into some proper Wayfaring. The cool thing about the build I made? Gnomes travel faster than other races, and Wayfarers get stronger the more they travel into unknown areas. How big are the worlds?

It/its, they/them, in order of preference.

The worlds are fairly big. Just rolled a Kobold Craftsman, and I must say, for ASCII graphics, the entire game is practically scenery porn.

Mine is about the size of Pluto (on a 1:1 scale) but I've heard stories of worlds as big as three times the diameter of Earth.
And hey, this game plays really nice even on this puny Mars colony, against Earth players. Gotta love the interstellar Internet providers.

And now some d!ck sunk my ship! And that also means me. I swear to God once I find out this bastard...
Meanwhile, time for some kobold thief action! Let's see how my previous masters react when I run away with their tea!

EDIT: So apparently there's been a wake in my name.
This game...
This bloody game.

I don't care if it was player- or NPC-made, but DAMN! I haven't seen this much attention to detail since GTA XV!

Wow, just got this game, and I love it! I'm a Gnome Rogue, and I got tons of bonuses on anything bigger then me. Oh, and Dwarf Fortress? I heard there's still an underground community for it; on the old Bay12 forums. Hah, Bay12. Got nothing on these Bay13 forums, am I right guys? Doesn't even have holographics. I think I'll try it sometime, though.

Recently I've been on a world that was just one, huge civilization controlling the entirety of it save for one rebel island in the middle of an ocean.
I'm honestly impressed at some of the stuff you can find on the game servers in this game. I really am.

Oh, and cross-world travel is coming soon, with portals and such. Should be fun.

I've recently just started the game and I herd a rumor that the bay12ers are going to invade the gamed and turn it into something. presumably dwarf fortress related.
