Recently, I've stumbled upon this cool-looking new game, called ASCIIension.
If the title image hasn't made you turn back (given that we're in the 2050s), then great, because you're in for a very fun game.
Most of you are probably way too used to those virtual reality games and just want to go back to the good old video games. You probably do if you're still using the Internet.
Anyway, ASCIIension is, in short, a massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (or MMORPG for short - those were apparently common 50 years ago) where you take over an elf/dwarf/human/goblin/kobold/whatever else in a procedurally generated world that you're an integral part of.
It's done so well that you can't (easily) recognize an NPC from an actual player, which is great.
It uses those archaic "ASCII" symbols in place of graphics (which is why it's named the way it is), so it may be hard to understand at first, but damn, it's great.
Don't like any of the online servers? Make your own!
It's apparently based on this 2010s game called Dwarf Fortress, which my dad used to play and it was fun, but I could never undestand it.
Oh, and it's free, too.
I'm currently playing on Harvenstets, or "Chapel Realm". It's an archipelago-heavy world and ships are very much meta here.
I'm the captain of the Redpearl, a large war brig of the elven civilization of Chikkii. (don't worry, we have stolen it from the humans because we're dirty like that - you don't expect us to use WOOD to make ships, do you?)
Mostly sailing around the Sea of Pearls, occasionally in the southern Baffling Oceans. Doing patrols and all that associated crap. Apparently our tea plantations are raided a lot lately. Why the hell does the king need me to do that is beyond me, but hey, feel free to stop by Fort Amalan! I know a lovely tavern in there with some cheap booze in it.
That's it from me for now. And remember,
Losing is Fun!
This is basically MMO Dwarf Fortress 1.0, and the "outside" setting is in the 2050s. Basically we discuss about that game that doesn't exist that we all wish existed that wouldn't be possible to ever play. Just visit
Igynpadca to get a feel of this "game". (as in the thread, not the discussed subject)
