And... How about a blacksmith mother and... are runesmiths things? Is that a thing that is? If not let it be some sort of drunken wizard/enchanter/artificer thing for a father.
Our father was a dwarf. "Drunken" goes without saying.
Our parents are living in a hill dwarf town. They were born mountain dwarves, though; they were sent there as a trade connection/liaison of sorts with the outside world. They were respected, but respect doesn't buy bread, as we learned repeatedly in our life when business was poor.
Our parents are struggling to get by. With the recent war against the human-elf coalition over in a white peace the demand for arms and armour has dropped considerably - there are plenty that have been recoveed off the dead, and with the Underdark quiet for the moment, there is little demand for the copious supply. They live in a shallow city near the gates to the mountain homes - chosen to supply the large gate garrison with arms and armour.
I'm going to go with a mix of these, I'm gonna ignore the war part, because I'd normally be doing this in groups and I'm not sure other players would be cool with that.
Your mother works hard and is the main bread winner of the family, she produces very little when it comes to arms and armor and is more focused on producing tools. Though being of dwarven make and seeing as how little dwarves care for gardening and wood felling, her business is barely steady in your first few years of life.
Your father on the other hand is a tinkerer, always trying to produce the next best thing, that will revolutionize dwarf kind. Because of this he wastes materials and sells little, he's still relatively young and full of dreams!
the rest of the attributes changes will be in secret.
you are now a child, your parents are poor, what do they do with you?
