You fire up the Redemption's primary engines, and make your way out of the debris field. The drones have no chance of following you, and their laser shots are too diffused to damage your armor by the time they reach your ship. They give up shortly thereafter, perhaps realizing that they can't catch you, but more probably because they're on the end of their allowed perimeter. Several days, multiple jumps and a short visit by the Midway system later ((It's easy to cash in on a bet if you own a warship)), you enter the Vanguard system.

The Vanguard System has changed a lot in the 30 years after the first settlers set foot on the primary planet's moon. The original colony has grown considerably ,and most of the moon is now inhabited. The Asteroid station has been restored to service, and now houses a large amount of people and one of the largest orbital civilian shipyards in the local area. Damage from bio weaponry used during the secession wars is still present on all 3 major planetary bodies, though all of them support extensive habitation. Basic gasmask are recommended if you want to visit the planet out of the dome, and weaponry might be needed to deal with local wildlife.

Luckily, the internal System Network makes it possible to trade what you need, without having to fly all over the system. Though you do still need to pick everything up.

So, now it's time to make purchases.

a) I suggest to make our own fighter, it's better than turret by being more versatile:  So use: Drone remains + plus flak turret + 100 credits basic cost + 50  for one unit of reinforced Teladine Armor to cover the cockpit + 50 for five units of  Duranium Armor to cover other systems. + 120 for two units of flak ammo totaling + 100 credits to boost fighter's targeting system and +80 for two (or more) additional hardpoints for mounting external weapons later. Totaling 500
b) Patch our armor with hull plates from our cargohold + buy 5 teladine armor units  for 100
c) Buy simple tools for 100, and reprocess 1\3 our scrap into slug railgun ammo and 1\3 into arrow-like railgun ammo
d) Spend 500 credits to repair life support and install at least rudimentary computing system to control Redemption
e) Buy and load two Tether missiles 40 just in case
f) Spend 10 credits for a large party for a crew to celebrate our good luck and a start of a new life as mercenaries

That leaves us with 250 credits for emergencies.

After that I suggest to contact House Saeta and ask if they have any work for our old vessel. From a cargo run in dangerous area, to escorting something, to a more shady jobs

PS. Offer crazy plans people. Creativity can do wonders in this kind of games.

I suggest to name the aquatic planet Venezion.

Also:
Name: Fernando de la Macoris
Task: Chemical Engineer
Bio: After graduating from chem school, Fernando spent some years working for ChemCorp, a big corporation who specialized in the fields of material development. He worked on several alloy improvement projects and has also gained some knowledge of biochemistry while working on living gases. He left the corporation after a big accident where most of his coworkers were killed. Struck with grief he is trying to find peace in the deep black space.

Current project: Determine the strength of the alloy used for this ship.

Counter-proposal to (c): In regards to railgun ammo, I would say 1/3 to a heavy armor-piercing design and 1/3 to something akin to canister shot for lighter targets. Both slugs and AP ammunition seems redundant to me. However, if others disagree, I suggest 1/4 slugs, 1/4 canister, and 1/4 AP.
Counter-proposal to (d): See if we can fix at least some of the life support systems by ourselves. It might save money.

g) Estimate feasibility of creating a few turret mounts for 4 of the flak turrets.
h) Ditch the spoiled food, we don't need it.
i) Attempt to fix the targeting computer.
j) Make sure those hull repair drones are working.

"Could we enquire on what's on the market for medical supplies around here? And also let's see if we can't put some serious engines on that fighter if we intend to have one. I can' imagine that it could support plating like ours. I think speed and versatility would be our best bet."

"I must agree with the gentleman there, our current plating would require some power. Also it would be terrible if we accidentally got a plague or disease on the vessel without proper equipment to take care of it. I am going to check the rest of the ship for lab equipment now, contact me if you need advise"

You make an additional number of requests on the market* before coming to the conclusion that you might need a new source of income if you want to fully repair this vessel. As such, you open a confidential link with the Seata Civilian Security program, and apply for several job opportunities. Here's a short list of the missions that would be profitable and possible for you to execute. As you prepare to leave the communication array, you get a simple request transmitted on a different secure line.

*No purchases processed because I readjusted various prices.

More detailed fighter project:
Made from:

Drone wreck - basis for the hull, engine, pulse laser
Flak turret - addition to the hull, rotating flak gun, able to defend both fighter (especially it's rear) and Redemption from missile attacks
10 units of simple resources, 5 units of complex resources, 2 unit of advanced resources for repairs and making necessary stuff
100 credits - to buy factory made details that can't be improvised
50 credits - buy reinforced teladine armor for the cockpit
100 credits - Buy very basic targeting and other on board electronics for the fighter
50 credits - Duranium hull plates for reinforcing other parts of the fighter
80 credits - additional components to make possible adding at least two new external guns (or other systems), later (with them being linked to the targeting computer, reserve power generation and stuff like that)
120 credits - ammo for the flak

I am open for suggestions and additions on it. One of the things we may do is salvage cargo shuttle for more details (mainly engines) to put on the design, but I suspect that a)we may need that shuttle later b) selling it as a whole may be better way to use it. c) we may upgrade it for other uses

I prefer to reuse old\damaged\worn out\outdated stuff not something that may have an actual value

Oh, and I disagree on heavy plating... I am afraid it is a very light plating.
If I am reading numbers right, gnome drone has 20 units of duranium armor

Damn, ninjad by the update

There are one more option, to add a real fighter engine to the design making it truly fast, but noticeably more expansive

I feel like the fighter, is a project for our second visit to port. Sure we can start lining out the design and stuff, but until we get a fighter engine in there, it's just a drone. One of the drones we knocked out of the sky with little trouble. I think most of our funds would best be spent on repairs to the Redemption.

Also, could we access the extranet and see if we can't get some history and specs on the model of this vessel? Possibly even it's house of origin, and this specific vessels info (unlikely, but maybe). I feel like it would help us better repair and employ the Redemption, especially in the long run. At least if it's all classified or expunged, we know where to start, because somebody must have some info on it.

We need some kind of escort and point defense. Especially if we to take the job of drone hunting... It is the best after all. Repairing a turret mount and installing a turret is not a cheaper option than a fighter  I think we can afford ourself a fighter, Anyway -

Alpha version of the plan:

Take drone hunting job
Spend several days in one of the ports for refits

Purchases:
a) Advanced tools 300
b) 10 teladine armor plates, 1 reinforced teladine armor plate 250
c) Fighter engine 500
d) One units of flak ammo 60
e) Two Tether missiles 40
f) While we in port hire local specialists to help our crew with the tasks below 150
h) Remaining money: buy various factory-made details necessary for all repairs below

Crew, hired specialists, hull repair drone
a) Try to haggle for better prices
b) start processing scrap to simple materials to Complex resources when needed
c) Repair life support
d) Patch holes in our armor with stored teladine plates and ones we bought
e) Construct a fighter from : flak turret, drone remains, 5 teladine plates, one reinforced teladine plate, 2 units of advanced resources, 5 units of complex resources + some of purchaced factory made details
Desired specs: pulse laser from drone, rotating flak, nice speed by combining standard fighter engine and remains of a drone, at least two external mounts for future
Name it Hound
f) repair\install at least basic computer system for control,  targeting and sensors
g) Make 4 AP railgun ammo (sharpened spikes) and 10 'shrapnel' railgun ammo
h) Repair most noticeable internal structural damage

Misc
a) If possible, register the vessel as jointly  owned by the crew with equal shares (probably not free, so can wait for later)
b) Try to get evaluation how much Redemption should cost (again, probably not free, but if we got a business person among the crew... In fact I'd love to have estimated cost as one updating stat for all of our vessels, for the sense of progress)

Idea is to spend all and every resources we have in storage on repairs. I want to keep cargo shuttle mostly because it will be easer to gather battle remains using it. But we may consider selling it and buy more good stuff\hiring more workhands

Doublepost for the Beta plan: codename: pirate hunting company

General plan
a)  Spend at least two full weeks in a port, preferably on that desert moon Salvation once helped to colonize

Sell the shuttle (expected profit +3600)

Business part
a) Buy pirate hunting license: 2000
b) Create and register a jointly owned mercenary company, with equal shares owned by crew-members   Hail socialism!
c) Get an evaluation of the cost of the ship
d) Start a system-wide advertisement campaign offering people to join the crew should they bring cash or equivalent(fighter, drone, licensed software something from the list we we want to buy, specialist aid in repairs.) I mean 31th member should bring 1\30th of the cost of the fleet, 32th should  bring 1\31th and so on. Should candidate have useful skills he may be accepted with lesser investment or no investment at all.

Spend 600 credits on the advertisement campaign for b) c) and d)

Purchases:
a) Simple and advanced tools 400 (both to have faster scrap to simple materials conversion and being able to process resources faster)
b) 10 teladine armor plates, 2 reinforced teladine armor plate 300 credits
c) 150 units of simple resources to be processed into complex resources or used directly in repairs 300 credits
d) Various factory made details needed for repairs below 500 credits
e) Hire local specialists to aid with repairs below when it's needed500 credits credits

Repairs\installs (in order of importance)
Don't forget to Use all stored resources. Don't spend any additional funds but what we have\purchases listed above
a) life support
b) electronics: targeting, control, sensors
c) patch redemption armor with stored damaged armor plates, purchased teladine patches
d) One turret mount to install our flak turret in it
e) Make 8 slugs and 8 "shrapnel" rounds for our railguns
f) Tremor's Personal project: try to repair the drone. Not only repair by buying spare parts, buy try to improve: do creative stuff to get performance boosts, improve AI, use 2 reinforced teladine plates to make the drone more durable.
g) Auxiliary engines for better manuevrabilty (one "rank" up)
h) one more turret mount to choose what turret to install, later
i) 10% of reactor power
j) paint the ship (open for color schemes, to get good contracts we shouldn't look like a ship from a scrapyard)

Then look for some pirate-hunting job.
If I counted right we should still have some Cash after the project to buy supply\ammo\fuel... And if we are lucky with advertisement campaign we may even afford one more turret, medbay, drone or something...

On a side note, the Redemption has a pricetag somewhere between 200 000 and 500 000 credits. Not that anyone would buy it for that price, or that you're allowed to sell it.
