Wary for a trap, you have your AI do a quick scan of the personnel transport. It's an Assegai class Personnel Transportation vehicle, and in good shape despite it's age. Assegai class vessels are fast, reliable and versatile, and are capable of landing in many conditions. They do not posses any weaponry, though they do often carry several defense drones in their cargo bays, in order to distract their enemy and buy them enough time to escape.

Despite initial mistrust, the first half of the voyage to the Vanguard system doesn't see any major troubles. Two jumps away from Vanguard, in a empty gatepost sector, not even considered worthy of it's own name, you're however stopped by bureaucracy. A local police cutter, barely larger than the transport you're escorting, intends to investigate the representative's craft for illegal goods. The Representative -correctly- claims that such an act would be a breach of his diplomatic immunity. There are several options on the table. You could try to bluff them off, or let the representative be searched. Of course, there's also the possibility of providing the police cutter with a financial incentive to make this go faster, as seems to be the habit.

Yep. It still needs an escort of some sort, just so that we can make positive its not some sort of proxy-bomb.

I don't know what an escort would help with if it were a proxy bomb...
Exploding the drone instead of us. But anyways...

Point out to the dude that indeed, it would be a breach of there imunity, however do say that we will make positive that they donot offload anything and indeed do not make physical contact with anything. Or atleast that if they do nothing that could be contraband would be exchanged.

Also, perhaps give something? Ask if they have any jobs needed to be done, perhaps offer the combat drone?

1000+ credits worth drone as a bribe? Little too much, don't you think?

I suggest to say police that they should understand  that mere contrabadists can't afford themselves to be escorted by a warship and interfering with diplomatic mission of that scale will lead to huge problems for them

The mere act of searching the ship would be an offense...

I know, I mean in future.

So any wrongdoing they do on this trip is on us.

After informing the police cutter that the small ship is indeed, being escorted by a fully functional warship, and that any delay's or inconveniences would be on his head, the cutter gives you permission to pass. They don't appear to be very happy about it though, and the captain of the ship informs you that he has registered your ID, and will inform of your states. Nevertheless, with that hurdle past you can finally set course for the Vanguard System.

Along the way, several of the new hires get to introduce themselves. The AI, is well, a relatively new creation, being a mere 20 years old. It was created on a isolated colony, and it generally helped the colonist survive the harsh outdoor conditions. But then the jump-network was reactivated , and interplanetary trade recommenced. The colony grew rapidly, and the wilderness was cut back bit by bit. Population expanded rapidly, and soon there was nothing left of the old settlement. The new inhabitants didn't like being watched over by an AI, and so it soon found itself with no options but to leave the colony on a friendly ship, looking for other opportunities.

The mercenary group, well, they're used to hard times. Once part of a decent transportation organization, they found themselves out of work when a pirate raid destroyed most of storages. From then on, they had to live on the edge of the law, doing various barely legal jobs. After one job that came just a bit to close, they saw your offer and couldn't refuse. The military software engineer doesn't say much, but as the day progresses, and the ship's bar is found (surprising how well some sorts of alcohol keep), he let's slip some details.

Apparently, House Seata is facing severe pressure, and is split in two factions. Untill recently, the more diplomatic faction was in charge, but with the failure of the missions to the Azumaril Triumvirate and the increasing troubles with the RMC, this faction has taken severe leads. The Seata patriarch has tried to maintain the balance, but it isn't quite working. The software engineer was one of the diplomatic factions supporters, and was hence fired.

Edit: Anyway, random question time. There's a minor railroad coming up ahead, so I'll give you some freedom now. Feel free to ask questions about the setting, or anything you want to now, or give feedback.

Hehehe. I don't envy the ambassador.

As for question about the setting, I'd love to get info on estimate on Saeta's navy (other navies are interesting, too). I think it's hard to hide ones capital ships and orbital defenses, so info is quite public even if not precise
I just want to know how useful can we be for Saeta in case of a big conflict.

Asides from system militias (often various smaller ships), House Seata has 3 Battleships, 8 Cruisers, and dozens of destroyers and smaller craft. Additionally, the Vanguard system is defended by numerous orbital defense platforms.

Fernando: I would like to take 3d scans on the ship and save it on a database.

What is the governmental structure of House Seata

((Redemption, the gunship or the ambassador's ship?))

And for the answer, an absolute constitutional monarchy. The Saeta Patriarch is officially the commander of the army, and governor of his planet. Other family members have a variety of positions. Parliaments exist, but are not very powerful.

Is any of them on board of the redemption? I would scan all three if there is enough time to do it properly.

Also I would ask the AI to help process the data. I want him to programm a system to generate charts to compare strengths of ships and fleets.

((The Gunship is on board, the Redemption is the ship itself, and scanning the ambassador's ship would be a breach of Rim League protocol.))

Well scan the gunship and the Redemption. Then begin classifying strengths and weaknesses using the subpoints: Firepower, Mass, Speed, Defense, Average
