Redemption : Salvation sequel [A spaceship suggestion game]

OOC

The wastes of the Inner rim are a dangerous place, but also one filled with golden opportunities. Many planets and moons still house the ruins of human civilization, brought down by the plague 20 years ago. When the Jump Gate network was shut down, thousands were trapped here. Their unfortunate demise is know a golden opportunity for those daring enough to survey these systems. The debris of many ships litters the systems, providing ample pickings for scavengers and salvagers. Yet pirates, scavengers and the remnants of old military blockades make exploring the inner rim a dangerous quest. Additionally, the jump beacons in these sectors are all heavily damaged, and are prone to failure at little intervals. Few people dare exploring further than a few days into the network, many who do, do not return.

Yet all it took was one drunken bet, and here you are now, on a two week long expedition into the abyss.  You've cheated death a few times, barely evading pirate ships, defusing a mine only in the nick of time. Though well, your journey appears to have been worth it's while. Your team has discovered an old warship  hidden in the debris field of a long past battle. Surprisingly, it has only sustained little damage. The bridge has taken significant damage, and the primary processing systems and databanks appear to have been wiped clean. Any evidence of the previous owners has been removed, including the crew, or their remains.

You can't quite recognize the design of the craft. It's almost 250 meters long, includes a small hanger, and has 2 wings, possibly allowing athmospherical flight. Turret positions appear to have once been included on the wings of the craft, though they're long gone now. Internally, the true weaponry of the ship is housed: The ship is equipped with 2 Twin coupled Turbolaser batteries, and 2 twin Railgun batteries. Additionally, the ship also features several missile launchers.

The ship's reactors had to be refueled, but your crew managed to find several fuel rods among the few things left in the cargo bay. All other systems are functional, but that's about the best that can be said. Unfortunately, it appears that your work in the debris belt has set of several automated droids. They're coming in your general direction, and the cargo shuttle's sensors indicate that they have armed their weaponry.

You might want to power up weaponry, hide, or do something else entirely.

Run and hide in the debris so we can attack them from the rear.

First things first. I propose that we name the ship the Redemption.

In terms of actions, it doesn't look like we've found any railgun ammunition. That's unfortunate.

I suggest that we power up the turbolasers, put something between them and us, and hope to any and all of the Gods that they don't have missiles We should also probably run a general diagnostic if possible.

The crew hurriedly spreads through the ship, initializing the engines and preparing to power up the lasers. Slowly, the ship starts to move, moving behind the asteroid you found it near. The droids are gaining on you however, and it seems unlikely that you can outrun them. This ship's engines might be a hundred times more powerful than theirs, but it won't help much without any fuel in the tank. Of course, you could always transfer fuel from the cargo shuttle, but it's a lengthy procedure.

Meanwhile, the team on the lower deck has managed to activate the lasers, and luckily, it appears that the laser's targeting system is still functional, though severely limited in range by having to rely on it's own build-in targeting system, rather than using targeting information from the bridge. The drones will be in range in a few minutes, but it's not unlikely that they'll be able to return fire before you're done with them.

Considering you have the time, you try to run a general system diagnostic. It doesn't reveal much, except a stunningly low amount of fuel, some minor damage to the Jump core, and a significant lack of functional sensor systems.

My character:
Name: Tremor
Task: Small spacecraft designer\mechanic\engineer
Bio: Tremor constructs various small crafts by combining old junk for a living and joined the expedition to find suitable parts for new projects

Current battle plan:
Go as close to the asteroid as possible. Idea is to shot the droids from point blank range when they'll go around the asteroid to monitor the activity. Our main is risk is not some damage but them getting away or sending radio message to someone.

Can we divert extra power to the lasers, or will that just break things?

Since we lack proper targeting systems, I suggest that we remain in cover until they get into optimal firing range, to maximize our chance to hit.

Do we know what kind of weapons the drones have?

A few thrusters burn up around the ship, and slowly the Redemption drifts towards the asteroid. Meanwhile, you contemplate the possibility of diverting additional power to the lasers. An interesting idea, and while it probably would work, you have no idea in what states the laser systems are. Besides, these lasers where designed to punch through dense layers of armor. They should be capable of destroying a small drone, if they can hit it.

Slowly, the drones drift around the asteroid. A soft thrum resonates through the ship -a clear sign that PAL's magnetic confinement systems need urgent recalibration- and one of the drones is reduced to slag.
The other drone maintains it's course, and returns fire. Luckily, it's pitiful laser cannon can't penetrate our ship's armor. A second volley is fired, again to no apparent effect. The drone maintains course, but does not fire. The crew hastes itself too prepare the PAL for another volley, but they're to late . The drone collides with the ship, harmlessly bouncing of it's armor in 2 nicely separated parts.

You're pretty certain the drones didn't send out a message, but nevertheless it's not a very good idea to stay here. There are few people here in the Inner Rim, but none of them are friendly. You can risk a bit and explore the debris field some more, or start the voyage home*.

I suggest to do exactly what we did in the first game: split in two teams, one will scout for valuables in the cargo shuttle, another will do the same in the main ship. Than GTFO and do the first repairs in safer area

So
a) unload all food and 3\4 of fuel from the shuttle to Redemption
b) Gather remains of the droids
c) Redemption to look for large lumps of metal, abandoned small sized ships and other large, easy to notice stuff. We need to pack our cargo hold full with all that scrap. If time allows we may start making shrapnel style ammo for our guns
d) Shuttle will look for small to medium weapons, electronics, missiles, rare metals and other valuables that may be present in the area. As soon as it's cargo hold is full - get back to Redeption
e) Fly away from the scrapyard before we meet more enemies

My character action
Tremor will spend his time analyzing and disassembling remains of the drones, than he will search  redemption docking areas hoping to find spare parts of vessels that were housed there some day back or other useful stuff

My character:
Name: Zeke Harmon MD.
Task: Surgeon
Bio: Doc Zeke is the flight surgeon and all around doctor for the crew. He began his career after he finished schooling, coming out around the lower third of his class. He ended up doing fairly well for himself in the medical field, since his tendency to stress the small things made him very meticulous with his surgeries and his ability to not sweat under the pressure made him perfect for the task. His career started to go downhill when he began dosing himself and became addicted to his own drugs. After becoming blacklisted and wandering around, for more than a bit he began to pick up jobs as a crew doctor, to pick up some extra cash and also feed the habit. He ended up in rehab after a smuggling job went wrong, long story short, he didn't kick the habit, but he'll tell you he has a much better grasp on it.

He is a decent guy, latching onto this job only because it looked "Fairly straight," and he is trying to stay out of trouble.

After this close encounter, the crew hastily takes off in the cargo craft, and fetches back the drone's wreck before it can get to far away. It looks a lot like a  factory standard Alliance Security drone, though it's been through a lot of wear, and generally appears to be very old. The wreck isn't really helpful either, as a significant part, including the computer core and part of the engine, has been melted away.
Meanwhile, the crew has finished unloading the cargo craft, and has transferred a majority of the fuel to the Redemption's main tanks.

A small number of crew members depart back into the debris field in the hope of finding other interesting stuff to salvage. They're lucky. Not that far away from the ship they find the remains of an Alliance drone deployment station. The drone bays and primary power generator have been completely destroyed, likely by some sort of energy weapon, but the raw materials storage is still mostly intact. The crew manages to recover a small amount of resources as well as a still functional Flak Point Defense turret.

Meanwhile, the Redemption itself is positioned close to the nearest wreck, which is cut into pieces by crew, before being loaded into the cargo bay. The wreck has clearly been picked clean before, and besides the metal used in the structure of the ship, there's little there to get. The crew is about to open the next cargo bay, when the cargo ship reports several new incoming signals. Almost 10 drones are moving in to your current location, weapons armed, and targeting radar at the ready.  There's some time left before they come within firing range, probably enough for the Redemption to accelerate and jump away.

((Note: Destination information and others will be added to the OOC database soon))

Hm, it's a rather modest loot... At least we got something to patch the armor, metal to make railgun ammo from and a turret that will be rather helpful after installment and purchasing some ammo for it.

I think we have only one option here: retreat. Our big lasers are just not suited for fighting against a large group of small targets.

So plan is
A) Retreat
B) Begin emergent loading of scrap of suitable size in our railguns,
C) In case if we manage to retreat, jump to the Vanguard System. They should have stuff for us to buy, facilities to repair us, jobs and while our ship is little suspicious, I doubt that they have real reasons to be hostile.
D) explore cargobays? I think ??? means unexplored

Should the retreat be successful, Tremor will spend his time designing a small, pilotable craft, created to be used as a some kind of mobile turret cycling around Redemption when needed. It's to be based on newly gained flak turret, resources, droid parts (including the pulse laser gun if it survived) and stuff that can be present in Vanguard system for a modest price.  Basically it's a fighter based around an old turret, with additional gun for self defense. Only theoretical work to be done, with no actual attempt to make something
