For a somewhat older, vastly quirkier, and less well known Gamecube game: Trotmobile Chronicles.
I wonder if you mean Steambot Chronicles for the PS2? It's steampunk-ish and electric guitars play a role.

I tried to play chess but two of my opponents were playing competitive checkers as a third person walked in with Game of Thrones in hand confused cause they thought this was the book club.

You could try Skies of Arcadia for the Gamecube, you play as sky pirates and shoot people with magical cannons and junk.

Oh look, I have a steam account.
Might as well chalk it up to Pathos.
As this point we might as well invoke interpretive dance and call it a day.

Jamestown is a good steampunk arcade shooter.

Darn it, I mixed up the two names a bit there. (The 'steambots' are even still called Trotmobiles in-game) But yeah that's it.

Hammerfall is a pretty unique game where you pilot a steampunk-ish flying helicopter-thing and swing around a wide variety of swords/hammer/chain weapons with different momentum. It's all about rotating your mouse to swing your weapon, a very interesting mechanic. It also has guns.

Myst series are really great quests. Their worlds can be described as steampunk as well, and it's those games I will love even if I die.

Torchlight 1/2 are Diablo-style slashers with a pretty heavy Steampunk wibe.
Fable 3 has industrial/steampunk elements too, although it appeared to be not as good as I hoped.

Fallen London is a browser game of choices. You basically play through a growing list of adventures made by developers using "turns" which you earn with time, so yeah, it's one of "those" relaxing games. However it has a really unique settings (the London has been stolen by bats and fell in the underworld), it has also a lot of Lovecraftian, Edgar Allan Poe and other dark writers'/artists' influences all over the setting.

Syberia is quite good, you should check it out if you like adventure games.

Project Nomads is a pretty old yet fun game about floating islands and steampunk tech.
