Ask the bartender about the quest-giving guy.

 - I command a whole army. Just name reasonable quantity of men and you get them. I think we can afford any numbers of them to perform such an important operation. And yes, I am aware of enemy forces.

Caerwyn
You ask the bartender about Urast Beggrund. He looks at you from below - for he is lower than you - and points at the table inn  the corner. There sits a couple of dwarves, five, to be precise. Four are miners, as you judge by dirt on their hands and faces, and the fifth one is some kind of adventurer - a big piece of rope wrapped across his chest, butt of rifle protruding from behind of his back, a massive armored vest, heavy boots with metal toes and aahort braided beard let you know that for sure.
Urast is shouting at miners, and, as you presume, tries to convince them in something, judjing by his active gesticulation.

UltraValican
 - Yep, I had. But I wouldn't like to discuss it in public, if you know what I mean. Next, we are driving to one of the city-states oа Wildlands. Have you ever heard of them?

Read that contract. Carefully.

2 full regiments in total plus enough men to fill my own should be sufficient, give me that and a month and I'll bring you back reinforcements and have the human army starved so badly that they will retreat without us needing to fight them. I'd like those 2 regiments plus the other men for me to all be commando's as well, commando's are not trained for frontal assaults they are far better equipped for the task you've set me.
Oh and if you have any experienced mages I could use 1 to train my own, I have 12 but they lack experience.

Attack them when they're on the march at night, plant explosives along the path ahead of them wait for them to march onto it then blow them to pieces and ambush them from both flanks in the darkness.

That was my plan for dealing with them, take away every advantage they possess and force them to fight us on our terms. If we simply beat the army they'll send another. If we annihilate them then they will learn to fear us.

Fear and darkness will be our 2 greatest weapons against them.

You do.
[attention roll - 3+1] You understand all the terms and conditions of contract.
It demands from you an escort service - you have to follow the caravan which is going throught the local villages and keep an eye on trader, so he could not evade paying taxes to the guild. You have an authority to use force to make him do that. You also must protect the caravan from "potential threats" - that is an exact quote form the contract, no idea what it might be.
Payment is 500 singuluses, food and shelter on the route of caravan are under Guilds responsibility.
You are a hired spectator, in short.

Kathryn reads her contract, too. A brief look over her shoulder tells you that she has the very same contract.

Patrick Hunt
 - I can provide you with regiments you ask for, as well as with conscripts to fill your own, but al the battlemages of my whole army were reassigned to protect the borders.

You've got your deal. In a while a messenger gives you the papers that authorise you in command of 34th and 57th Commando Forces, and a report of your own force's fulfilment. You were also generously provided with transports and explosives.

" Well then, I'll inform you when I begin my operation. I recommend that you place scouts to make sure no enemies break off from the siege and if they do that you wait until night then ambush them with everything you can throw at them.

We need to keep them penned up for a few weeks while we let lack of supplies defeat them for us.
"

Go meet with my mages, calm the children and then pair each child with one of the grown mages. Have them focus on improving elemental and weather manipulation.

"So, um, Kathryn, you think you want this job? I think I shall take it, myself."

Sign the contract. It's as good as I'm likely to get, probably.

Harry Baldman
- Well, I'm not too good in economics, but I'm attentive, so a spectator role is right about me.
You both sign your contracts and pass them to Kollin. He puts them into another box inside his table and gives you a sheet of paper - that is the jotting of your duties.

- Very well. The caravan departs in two hours from the Land Transport Department. Relow is the name of the trader. Good luck.

Patrick Hunt
((Okay. I just presumed that you wouldn't discuss the details of top secret military operation with messengers.))

Messenger leaves to pass your suggestions to the high commanders, and you leave to your young mages.
You pass through the soldiers encampments, and finally reach the barrack with mages - it can be easily located by load screams of children that can be heard from anywhere in the camp. [6] Your commanding tone makes little children stand still and then row up and salute properly. Your assignements are listened and performed instantly. Full success. They begin their trainings immediately.

(( I didn't tell him anything that wasn't common sense. ))

Have both of my new regiments and my conscripts outfitted the same as my current forces as soon as they arrive. Have them renamed Forest Ghost regiments 301, 302 and 303.

Get a map and see how many settlements are along the human/elven border on the enemies side.

Your renaming request was declined by authorities. They laugh behind your backs. Suckers.
There are about hundred settlements of different size situated along the border, but you guess that there are only about forty of them that are strategically important.

Rename them anyway and ignore the authorities, Send 10 men to every one of those 100 settlements to discreetly scout them to determine how many men are in place to defend them now that most men were pulled out to create th army besieging the capital.

They're to scout for 2 days then fall back to rejoin the main force and make a map of patrol routes and sentry positions for the towns they scouted.

The main army is to move up to within 50 miles of the border then set up a camp in the forest well away from any roads or paths, preferably in a position thats heavily forested.
