(( No wonder the elves are losing. They're completely incompetent. ))

Give the remaining soldiers a choice, be warriors and swear an oath to me to fight until we win or we die. Or go cower under the nearest table like cowards.

Don't give the mages a choice.

Your mages will remember that act of discrimination. They would go after you anyway, but you gave them no freedom of choise, and they now look offended.
Your friends leave you too - they say that blowing men up without looking at their faces is not the way they wanted.
All the conscripts you had deside that is enough of them and go back home. But you have a bigger problem - your remaining commando troops, the second officer after you, in fact, major, as you read at his chevrons, offer you a deal - they call it a command of the strong. To be short, they offer you a deathmatch with no weaponry against their major. You accept, I guess?

You sit down at the warm and soft carpet of dry moss under your feet and lean your back against the trunk of an old pine. The evening is rather cold, and you bless the trader who told you to buy something warm. You close your eye and try to sleep.
[night event roll - 3] The forest around you gleams with multiple eyes of night creatures, but the dare not to come close to the fire. They keep the sentries wary, but most of them won't have a goodnight sleep today, for those eyes will chase them in their dreams.
However, you sleep peacefully until Yaro interrupts your sleep and calls you closer to the fire, to the guard position.

Refuse and watch them desert as well.

(( Seriously, these aren't elves. Like even a little. They look like elves and live in a forest but they're not even the tinniest bit like elves. ))

((Welcome to my setting, where elves are no ubermensches you've used to see.))
They, actually, force you in, since they'll need an excuse of leaving, and a corpse of commander is excusable enough.

UltraValican
You come to the fireplace and sit around it, with your gun steady. Yaro sits right on the opposite side of improvised round bench from fallen tree-trunks around the fireplace. Light gleams on his scales, making him much more resembling to his distant ancestors.
 - Not much more than you. I was with Zachaia on that very first our "meeting". We were sitting around the fireplace, just a now, and then some strange noises came from the dark. We cheked it - that was an undead forest keeper. We shot him and got our asses outta that place. Plus that little mess you've participated yourself. That was a nice shot, by the way! You did just one, but it hitted the target. Sharpshooting.

[5] You satisfy them by that. They leave, and seem even to cease mocking.
Well, you are standing alone in an unfamiliar town with no money in you pockets. You have your weaponry, however, and some of the golden thingys the original wearer of your longcoat had can allow you to last for a while, if you'll wish to sell them.

Go to the towns library and look up anything referencing dark elves, ask the librarian for help.

 - There is quite a story about it. This is a machinegun with a caliber of ten lines, her name is Gertrude.

He puts this massive piece of armament on his knees and waves his hands along it in admiration, like a boy would to a new toy.

 - You might ask who brought such an extraordinary insane construction to life? That was one of Zacharia's numberless "trade partners" - the guys who owe him due to the fact he overhelmed them in poker, to be fair. One of them was a dwarven engineer, and when he ran out of money, he made a bet with a complete prototype of a brand new machinegun - old Gertrude herself. He lost it, of course. I heard that those machineguns are now used in dwarven army, but they have only 8-lines instead of 10 and are not produced in hand-beared variants, for field tests showed that it would brake the bones of dwarves otherwise.Ii can use it with no problem because of my natural strength and toughness, however.
So, old Gertrude is one-of-a-kind. Its projectlies cannot explode, but you must have mistaken the fountains of dirt or flesh they make due to their huge kinetical energy for explosions.

You shamble through the streets, seeking for the library. Fortunately, it is hard to be mistaken since the big sign over entrance says clearly where it is. You come inside and ask librarian about dark elves literature. The small woman runs away and returns in a while with a pile of seven books.
You have a seat at the desk in the reading room and begin your investigation.
One of the books is thrown away instantly, for it was a pornografic novel. You wonder why they even keep such things in the library.
next one is a thick glossary, that gives you a short definition:
Dark elves - see elves
Elves - one of the Elder races, now divided in two kins: the main branch is called just elves, and another one is called dark elves.
Second three is a philosophical compositions of some authors you've never heard of. They have only poor refers of the dark elves as a nation that selected the way different than elves. No particular info, and the books on the whole are written badly.
Another one is a play that shows you the events which brought elves and Dark ones apart. After the tragical death of the First Queen, a mythical figure that was said to unite the elves of the world, one branch of her ancestors sweared to mourn on her death untill the last of them is alive, the other ones began a feast in honor of her hier which assended to take the rule. the main point is duality of elven spirit, which is at once mournful and cheerful, and such.
The last one is a very unusual book - it is a full catalog with an attached research on the Armory of dark elves. There the whole history of their weaponry is tracked, and some of their weapons are very unusual.

Look for any mention of where the dark elves live now.

If I don't find any ask the Librarian if she knows of anybody who can help me find them or anywhere I can find more information.

The only mention of their location sends you across the country and further to Wildlands, but the events described in play happened, what, two millenias ago?

((Imma off for 10-11 hours as usual))

"Well lets hope you won't have to use Gertrude till morning, I have a feeling it would wake the whole forest up. "

"Zacharia seems to be quite the Savvy gambler, I guess being a merchant is a gamble in a sort philosophical sense though. You would utilize some of the same skills, so I guess it makes sense."
See if the eyes are still watching around the camp.
